Karnataka faces discrimination in distribution of resources from Centre: CM Siddaramaiah
He also said that there is growing concern that Constitutional bodies like the Income Tax Department, Enforcement Directorate, CBI, and others are not working to uphold the true values of democracy and cooperative federalism as enshrined in the Constitution.
He said, every responsible citizen must raise their voice in this regard.
The Chief Minister made these observations while delivering his address at the 79th Independence Day celebrations here.
Siddaramaiah said his government has built its own development model, which is widely recognised as the "Karnataka Model of Development", and that its 'guarantee schemes' have got global recognition.
"The Basavadi Sharanas of the 12th century firmly believed that one must live by one's word. Guided by this principle, our government has built its own development model, now widely recognised as the Karnataka Model of Development," he said.
"It is a matter of pride that even Philemon Yang, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, visited Karnataka and wholeheartedly praised our Guarantee Schemes, giving them global recognition," he added.
Noting that surveys by leading national institutions have revealed a stark truth that the wealthiest 10 per cent of our population hold 80 per cent of the nation's wealth, yet they contribute only about 3 per cent of the GST collected, he said, the remaining 90 per cent ordinary people who work daily for food and clothing shoulder nearly 97 per cent of GST payments.
"How can any economy sustain itself under such circumstances? How can we fulfil the spirit of our Constitution? How can we reduce this growing inequality? These questions troubled us deeply. It is with the intention of finding answers to these questions that we launched the Guarantee Schemes and other welfare programmes," he added.

Restore medical education to state list: DMK MLA
CHENNAI: Alleging that medical education being moved from the state list to the concurrent list of the Constitution in 1976 has led to a systematic erosion of state autonomy in healthcare, DMK MLA and part-time member of the state planning commission Ezhilan Naganathan submitted a report to the high-level committee on centre-state relations, constituted by the state government, recommending that the subject be restored to the state list. Ezhilan made a detailed presentation on Saturday about the recommendation report on the 'overt centralisation of powers in the subject of health and medical education' before the high-level committee members — retired IAS officer K Ashok Vardhan Shetty and former state planning commission vice chairman M Naganathan.

EC to hold press conference today as Rahul Gandhi takes out ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar: What we know so far
The Election Commission (EC) will hold a press conference on Sunday amid allegations of "vote chori (theft)" levelled by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the 'special' intensive electoral roll revision in poll-bound Bihar. The press conference will be held a 3 pm on Sunday, news agency ANI reported. It is unusual for the poll authority to convene a formal press conference on issues other than announcing election schedules. While the subject of the press conference has not been specified, officials said it is related to recent allegations levelled against the Election Commision. Gandhi has repeatedly accused the poll panel of voter-data fudging and alleged that there was "vote theft" in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Haryana. The commission has asked the Congress leader to submit the names of those he claims have been wrongfully added or removed from the voters' list, along with a signed declaration. The poll authority also sought an apology from Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, if he fails to give an undertaking to back his allegations. The Election Commission's move to hold a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list in Bihar too is facing questions from the Opposition – who claim that the move will disenfranchise crores of eligible citizens due to want of papers. The Supreme Court earlier asked the Election Comission to publish the details of the 65 lakh deleted names from the voters' list, with reasons of non-inclusion, to enhance transparency in the SIR in Bihar. The Election Commission's presser comes onthe day Rahul Gandhi is set to begin his 16-day-long 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' from Sasaram in poll-bound Bihar. On Saturday, Bihar's Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar said, "Sources have revealed that the Election Commission will to hold a press conference tomorrow, while on the same day, Rahul Gandhi is launching the 'Voter Rights Yatra' in Bihar." 'How long will they keep pulling strings to benefit the BJP? Now, the Election Commission should stop conducting elections and directly contest them instead,' Kanhaiya Kumar said in a post on X. The 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' is aimed at ensuring awareness and alertness among the common people about voter rights and protest against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. According to PTI, the yatra will cover 1,300 kilometres and will conclude with a mega rally in Patna on September 1, where leaders of various INDIA parties would attend. Gandhi shared details of his yatra in a post on X, saying, '16 days. 20 districts. 1,300 kms. We are coming among the people with the Voter Rights Yatra.' "This is the fight to protect the most fundamental democratic right - 'one person, one vote.' Join us in Bihar to save the Constitution," Gandhi said.

'RSS is Indian Taliban': Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad
BK Hariprasad NEW DELHI: A senior Congress leader has described the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the "Indian Taliban", a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the organisation during his Independence Day address. According to news agency ANI, BK Hariprasad, a former Rajya Sabha member, criticised the prime minister for lauding the RSS from the Red Fort. "They (RSS) are trying to disturb peace in the country. I will only equate RSS with Taliban. They are Indian Taliban and the PM is appreciating them from Red Fort," he told ANI. "Was there any 'Sanghi' who participated in the freedom struggle? It's a shame that RSS is not a registered organisation. We don't know where they get funds. Any NGO that wants to work in the country should register, as per the Constitution," he said. The Congress leader further alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and RSS were "masters of twisting history". He claimed that it was AK Fazlul Huq, then Prime Minister of Bengal, along with Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who first moved a resolution for Partition, while both Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar supported the idea of separate states. His remarks came a day after Modi hailed the RSS as the "biggest NGO in the world", praising its century-long contribution to nation-building. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "With the aim of welfare of Maa Bharati, swayamsevaks dedicated their lives to the welfare of our motherland...
