Wichita Falls lake levels rise, but stage one drought watch stays
Over the weekend of April 19 and April 20, Lake Arrowhead rose 2.2% to 70.0% and Lake Kickapoo rose 0.5% to 68.1%. The combined lake totals rose 1.7% to 69.5%.
Despite the increase in lake levels, Wichita Falls customers remain under Stage One Drought Watch restrictions, according to city officials. Only a city council resolution can lift the watering restrictions.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (PIX11) – All beaches within the Town of Hempstead will shut down this week as Hurricane Erin approaches the East Coast, according to officials. Residents will have their last chance to go swimming at any Town of Hempstead beach on Tuesday. Starting Wednesday, swimming is prohibited, but beaches will still be open. More Local News Town officials said all beaches will be closed on Thursday, with them reopening on Friday and Saturday. These are the beaches that will be affected by the closures: Atlantic Beach Estates East Atlantic Beach Park Harbor Isle Beach Hewlett Point Park Lido Beach Town Park Lido West Town Park Malibu Shore Club Town Park at Point Lookout Town Park at Sands Hurricane Erin was downgraded to a Category 3 storm on Monday as it continued to churn in the Atlantic Ocean, but the National Hurricane Center warned it could increase in strength as it continues north. The storm slammed the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico with high winds and several inches of heavy rain. While the system isn't projected to make landfall, it will be dangerous rip currents to New York and New Jersey, according to forecasters. Erin slightly weaker, tropical storm watches in effect in North Carolina
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – The 5 AM advisory on Tuesday shows that Erin continues to weaken, but it is still a major hurricane. Life-threatening surf and rip currents across the East Coast of the United States this week, as Erin passes off the coast. The latest 5 a.m. advisory on Erin shows the center is located 750 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Winds are currently at 115 mph. Erin is moving northwest at 7 mph. The barometric pressure is at 955 mb. A tropical storm watch is in effect for central North Carolina. The Outer Banks of North Carolina are likely to see tropical storm-force winds (greater than 35 mph) and outer rainbands. Mandatory evacuations were issued in Dare County. On Monday, there were more than 50 rip current rescues along North Carolina area beaches. High pressure developing over the East Coast, along with a cold front on Thursday, will keep Erin off our coast. The latest GFS (black) and European (white) models are in good agreement with Erin's offshore position, which, for overnight Wednesday, is estimated to be 300-350 miles to our east. Locally, impacts will be in the form of dangerous rip currents through the end of the week for the Grand Strand. A high surf and small craft advisory is in effect for today and tomorrow. The Grand Strand could see 5- to 7-foot waves in the surf zone Tuesday night through Thursday, along with 16-30-foot waves 20-200 miles offshore. Because of this, a small craft advisory has been issued until Thursday. Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion will be possible during high tide cycles. Especially on Thursday night, when the high tide at Springmaid Pier will be near 7 ft, which would lead to flooding in Cherry Grove and Garden City. Temperatures are starting out very seasonal, ranging from the low to mid 70s across the region. As we move through the morning hours, expect plenty of sunshine, though a few clouds will begin to build into the afternoon. Despite the increasing cloud cover, skies will remain mostly sunny overall. Temperatures will stay hot and humid today, with highs climbing into the mid 90s. A few stray showers or thunderstorms may pop up during the afternoon, but most of the region will stay dry.
