Lake levels continue to rise across Texoma

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — The lake levels in Wichita Falls are up again this week, quickly approaching 100% capacity. Lake Arrowhead rose 1.3% and now stands at 97.7%, while Lake Kickapoo remained the same this week at 100% full. Most of the water is overflowing from Lake Kickapoo, and the runoff is expected to continue. The combined lake capacity rose 0.9% to a total of 98.3%. This will be the final weekly lake level update for the season. Wichita Falls officials will notify residents when the lakes reach 100%. Lake Arrowhead dropped 0.4% to 96.2%, and Lake Kickapoo dropped 0.5% to 98.8%. Wichita Falls city councilors have a resolution on the agenda Tuesday, May 20, to consider lifting Stage One Drought Watch restrictions. Over the weekend of April 19 and April 20, Lake Arrowhead rose 2.2% to 70.0% and Lake Kickapoo rose 0.5% to 68.1%. The combined lake totals rose 1.7% to 69.5%. Despite the increase in lake levels, Wichita Falls customers remain under Stage One Drought Watch restrictions, according to city officials. The combined levels for both Lakes Arrowhead and Kickapoo fell 0.1% for a total of 67.8%. Wichita Falls water customers remain in Stage One Drought Watch restrictions despite the level being below the 65% automatic Stage One trigger.
