A HOSPITAL has been slammed after horrified loved ones spotted ants crawling in an elderly patient's drinking water.
And they reckon the Parkinson's disease sufferer, 78, may have been left sipping insect-infested liquid for days.

The OAP's son, Alastair Tarbett, 44, shared shocking photos and videos with The Scottish Sun of the sickening scenes at Stratheden Hospital, in Cupar, Fife.
He told how his dad, who we're not naming, had been admitted to the community unit for assessment.
Alastair, of nearby Balmullo, said: 'When we visited, ants were crawling round the rim of his glass. It was disgusting.
'When I went there on another day, I saw three or four ants inside his plastic cup. Then I opened his sealed water bottle — and there were ants in there too.

'My poor dad had been drinking from that bottle for two days, sucking up ants through his straw.'
Alastair raised the alarm with staff on the hospital's Muirview Ward, who admitted the infestation was 'deplorable'.
But he said he was still stamping on ants during visits two weeks later.
He added: 'As soon as ants are crawling around patients' food and drink, a team should be out dealing with it immediately. It's just not good enough.'

An NHS Fife spokesman said: 'We apologise for any concern caused. Immediate action was taken to address the presence of ants.
'This issue affected only part of Muirview Ward and is likely linked to building works in the area.'

It is understood that her husband is in intensive care but his condition has not been officially disclosed. The first charge alleges that on June 1 Fraser repeatedly stabbed his father on the body with two knives to his serious injury, danger of life and he attempted to murder him. The second charge alleges that on June 2, 2025, he murdered his mother by repeatedly stabbing her to the head, neck, and body with two knives. Photographs taken at the scene of the alleged incident showed forensics and specialist officers attending a property at Craigton Avenue on Sunday. Police Scotland locked down the residential street using blue tape with several vehicles parked up to block the road. Cops reassured locals that the alleged attack was a contained incident. Tributes made to long-serving East Renfrewshire councillor
She had served her constituents in Barrhead, Liboside and Uplawmoor for 26 years and her dedication to the area was recognised last year when she received a Lifetime Legend award at the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) and CCLA annual councillor awards. Books of Condolence have been set up at the council offices in Barrhead Main Street and at Eastwood HQ for members of the public to pay their respects. She received an OBE from the Queen in the New Year's Honours List of 2011 for services to East Renfrewshire and Malawi. She had first travelled to the African country in 2007 and set up a charity – the Betty Cunningham International Trust – which built a health clinic and nursery schools. Council leader Owen O'Donnell, who signed the Book of Condolence at the council's Eastwood HQ, said: "Betty's passing has left me with a great sense of grief and sorrow which will be shared by the wider Labour family, council staff and colleagues, the many lives she touched in Barrhead and East Renfrewshire and much further afield in her beloved Malawi. "This all still feels so raw and a time of personal grieving. We will have time in the days and weeks ahead to more fully celebrate her life together. Social justice and the sense of what is right and wrong was ingrained in Betty's DNA. "She was a ferocious fighter for the people of Barrhead and beyond and would leave then Prime Minister Tony Blair and First Minister Jack McConnell trembling in her wake! She will be greatly missed, not least by the people of Barrhead for whom she so tirelessly and passionately represented for over 25 years." And SNP group leader, councillor Tony Buchanan, added: "Betty was a stalwart in her community and a fearless fighter on behalf of that community. "She was feisty and would not tolerate anyone who would decry her beloved Barrhead. "She was also a great believer in equity at both home and abroad, the latter through the work of her Malawi charity. "Betty stood up for people who needed support, gave them a voice and made sure the council delivered for them."

The 43-year-old man, named locally as John Provan, passed away after he was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning. 2 John Provan tragically passed away after the crash on Sunday Emergency crews raced to the scene of the crash on Meikle Earnock Road in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, at around 00.35am. The alarm was raised after officers received reports that a silver Skoda Octavia had hit a pedestrian. The dad-of-two was found injured at the scene and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. However, he tragically passed away in hospital a short time later. Devastated friends and family have paid tribute on social media after learning of John's death. Many have flocked to Facebook after hearing the devastating news. One person said: "My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family. This still hasn't sunk in yet... he will be missed by so many." Another added: "Heartbreaking news. Thinking of all his family and friends. RIP John." Someone else wrote: "Rest in peace John, can't believe this". And a fourth commented: "Such a tragedy. A close friend set up the page and wrote: "On behalf of the community, I was asked by several people if they could make a donation towards John's funeral arrangements, but instead of me taking the money, I have permission from the family and I set this up. "The incident happened around 12.35am on Sunday, 1 June, 2025, where John was making his way home after a night out, where he tragically passed away. "John was only 43 years old, he has left behind his long-term partner Natalie and two children, John, 25, and Libby, 18, who had to be told this sad news that would now impact them for the rest of their lives. "We are raising money to help take the pressure off this family at this unimaginable, heartbreaking time with any funeral costs, and give John the send-off he truly deserves. "It doesn't need to be much, just anything you can spare would be truly appreciated. "We send all our love and deepest condolences to John's partner Natalie and his beloved family during this time, and we keep them in our prayers." Police have launched an investigation into the fatal crash and have said that inquiries are ongoing. They have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with any information to come forward and are keen to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage of the area from the time of the incident. Sergeant John Houston said: 'Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time. 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us. 'We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time to check if they have dash-cam footage that can help with our investigation.'
