Elderly patient's drinking water infested with ants during stay at Scots hospital

ANT SHOCK Elderly patient's drinking water infested with ants during stay at Scots hospital A HOSPITAL has been slammed after horrified loved ones spotted ants crawling in an elderly patient's drinking water. And they reckon the Parkinson's disease sufferer, 78, may have been left sipping insect-infested liquid for days. Credit Steve Welsh Credit: Steve Welsh The OAP's son, Alastair Tarbett, 44, shared shocking photos and videos with The Scottish Sun of the sickening scenes at Stratheden Hospital, in Cupar, Fife. He told how his dad, who we're not naming, had been admitted to the community unit for assessment. Alastair, of nearby Balmullo, said: 'When we visited, ants were crawling round the rim of his glass. It was disgusting. 'When I went there on another day, I saw three or four ants inside his plastic cup. Then I opened his sealed water bottle — and there were ants in there too. Advertisement 'My poor dad had been drinking from that bottle for two days, sucking up ants through his straw.' Alastair raised the alarm with staff on the hospital's Muirview Ward, who admitted the infestation was 'deplorable'. But he said he was still stamping on ants during visits two weeks later. He added: 'As soon as ants are crawling around patients' food and drink, a team should be out dealing with it immediately. It's just not good enough.' Advertisement An NHS Fife spokesman said: 'We apologise for any concern caused. Immediate action was taken to address the presence of ants. 'This issue affected only part of Muirview Ward and is likely linked to building works in the area.'

A source said he was set upon by a gang of neds armed with several weapons. They added the boy had been fortunate to survive the attack. A mum-of-four, 31, who tried to keep the lad from losing consciousness, told how the horror unfolded. She said: 'There was a wee boy lying on the floor. He was bleeding. I was talking to him, trying to keep him awake. 'I just told him that his mum would come. The police said he was in a bad state. 'It's just crazy what's happening on our streets. I'm worried about my own kids' safety.' The horror unfolded on Denbeck Street, with cops being alerted to the incident at around 10.30pm. The teenager was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he said to be in a 'stable' condition. Cops have since launched a probe into the horror stabbing and appealed for information - saying four suspects in dark clothing were seen leaving the area. Detective Inspector Lesley-Ann McGee, from Shettleston CID, said: 'This was a violent attack that left a teenage boy with serious injuries, and we are doing everything we can to trace those responsible. Police probing death of 'stabbed' teen Kayden Moy swoop on Scots park 'I would urge anyone who saw what happened or noticed anything suspicious in the area to get in touch with police as soon as possible. 'We're also keen to speak to anyone who may have private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage from Denbeck Street, Shettleston Road, Wellshot Road or the surrounding areas on Thursday night. Any information, no matter how small, could help us as we continue our enquiries.' There were visible splatters of blood on the pavement on Friday morning, while CID officers were speaking to teenagers near the crime scene. Shettleston councillor Thomas Kerr said the incident was 'heartbreaking and shocking'. He said: 'There is a knife crime epidemic in Scotland. 'Parents should not be scared for their sons or daughters to leave the house. Something needs to change. 'My thoughts are with the young man's family, and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.' A local mum-of-four, aged 38, warned that 'weans aren't safe to go anywhere'. She added: 'It seems to be getting worse.' A gran-of-two, 65, who lives near the scene, said: 'I think it's shocking that there are so many stabbing across Glasgow. 'It seems to be getting out of hand. My granddaughter is around the same age and I'm worried for her safety.' The latest violence shock comes days after we told how John Swinney was warned his 'weak and reckless' justice system is costing lives amid alarm at a deadly knife crime wave. Scottish Tories leader Russell Findlay accused the First Minister of 'fuelling youth violence' amid a 'sickening' 600 per cent rise in serious assaults committed by teens in five years. The Holyrood showdown came after day tripper Kayden Moy, 16, was allegedly stabbed to death at Irvine beach in Ayrshire on May 17. In a separate incident another teen was allegedly stabbed at Portobello Beach in Edinburgh the day before. Meanwhile, Scotland's top cop called for a crackdown on violence in schools after we revealed a boy of seven allegedly took a blade into Heathfield Primary in Ayr to attack another pupil. We also told earlier this week how a 10-year-old lad was threatened with a blade by a tearaway classmate in Kilmarnock. A boy of the same age was reported to authorities over the incident. Earlier this month, a 14-year-old thug was locked up for five years for killing Kory McCrimmon, 16, in Glasgow in a fight over £50. And a group of teenagers are currently facing charges in connection with the death of 15-year-old Glasgow teen Amen Teklay.

Jimmy Stewart, 71, from Clydebank said: "I'm absolutely ecstatic, it's been dragging on and dragging on. "The priority is to get a bit of silverware next season. "We're going to the pub to celebrate." Ian Munro, 60, a shop worker from Inverness, said: "It's a seismic change. "It's similar to when Graeme Souness took over in 1986. "The £20million will be money well spent. "Silverware is achievable but getting to the Champions League is the aim. "Overall it's a good day for Rangers." James Parker from Bolton pleaded to the new ownership: "Don't leave the fans in the dark, keep us filled in on everything that is going on. "Now is the time to get in there and start again!" Graham Caldwell, 63, was born a stone's throw from Ibrox but visited the stadium from his home in Blackpool, Lancs yesterday. The heating engineer said: "£20million is nowhere near enough, we have to buy, but not stupid money." When asked about the clubs' priorities, he didn't hold back, saying: "Centre-back, left-back, right-back, and a goalscorer." April Harper, 60, from Lambhill said: "As long as they put the money into the stadium and the players, I think Rangers will come back again. "We need the players, we need Scottish players that know what it means to the club, what it means to the fans. "I'd take Souness back [as manager] he might be alright, I think Souness would do well, I think he would kick their backsides. "I don't think there has been a fight in the team." Jack Robertson, 27 came dressed for the occasion with a Stars and Stripes - and a Make Rangers Great Again cap modelled on Donald Trump's rallying call. The car repair worker, from Garthamlock, Glasgow, said: "It's about time, as everyone will know we have had a bit of a hard time in the past since about 2012, finally a bit of good news. "The team needs a lot of work, I think £20million, we're not going to say no, but it's definitely a good starting point. "This league is winnable, I don't think that they're [Celtic] not catchable, we beat them more than they beat us. "We need to get consistency, and be able to beat St Mirren!" 7 April Harper is desperate for some Scottish faces in the door at Ibrox Credit: Steve Welsh 7 Jack Robertson thinks the takeover will make Rangers great again Credit: Steve Welsh Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

(Steve Welsh/PA via AP) GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Scottish soccer club Rangers confirmed on Friday a U.S.-based consortium that includes an investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers has purchased a majority ownership stake. Rangers said health insurance entrepreneur Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises led the consortium of investors that was reported to have bought a 51% stake. The purchase price was not disclosed. Advertisement The club said the group has committed to invest 20 million pounds ($27 million) right away, subject to shareholder approval in June. In July 2023, 49ers Enterprises completed the takeover of Leeds, which will play in the Premier League next season after winning the second-tier title. In Glasgow, takeover talks had been ongoing for months as Rangers finished a distant second to fierce rival Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season. Celtic has won the league title for four straight years. Cavenagh, co-founder of Philadelphia-based Pareto Health, will serve as Rangers board chairman. 'This club's history and traditions speak for themselves, but history doesn't win matches,' he said in Friday's announcement. 'Our focus is simple: elevate performance, deliver results, and bring Rangers back to where it belongs — at the top.' (Steve Welsh/PA via AP) Sunderland has booked a showdown with Sheffield United for a place in the Premier League. Dan Ballard bundled in a goal in stoppage time of extra time to earn Sunderland a 1-1 draw with Coventry and a 3-2 victory on aggregate in the Championship playoff semifinals on Tuesday. Advertisement Sheffield United had already reached the playoff final at Wembley Stadium by completing a 6-0 aggregate win over Bristol City on Monday. While Sheffield United is looking to return to the top flight after an absence of just one year, Sunderland hasn't played in the Premier League since 2017 and has since been the subject of a Netflix series documenting the club's struggles. The playoff final is the most lucrative one-off match in world soccer, with Sunderland in line to get an estimated revenue uplift of around 200 million pounds ($260 million) in projected matchday, broadcast and commercial revenue — and much more if the team was to survive the first season back in the top flight. For Sheffield United, the uplift would be an estimated $180 million as the club is still benefitting from parachute payments from the last time the team was in the Premier League — in the 2023-24 season. Advertisement Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, last played in the Premier League in 2001 and suffered more heartache, having lost to Luton in a penalty shootout in the playoff final in 2023. ___ AP soccer:
