SUF condoles demise of senior SAD leader Dhindsa
Sikh United Front and various Sikh organisations on Thursday condoled the demise of senior SAD leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.
The condolence meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sudershan Singh Wazir, chairman of Sikh United Front of J&K.
He expressed his grief over the demise of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Dhindsa.
Dhindsa was a Rajya Sabha MP from 1998 to 2004 and from 2010 to 2022. He was also Shiromani Akali Dal Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur in 2004.
He was the Union minister of sports, chemicals and fertilisers during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and also a four-time MLA. He also served as a cabinet minister of Punjab.
Wazir said that Dhindsa was a visionary leader, an experienced parliamentarian and a person who lived a life dedicated to public service.
He always had a grassroots level connect with Punjab, its people and culture. He served Sikh Panth and Punjab for many years and was a dignified leader who served Punjab with integrity and dedication, added Wazir.
Various leaders of the Sikh community paid their heartfelt tribute and respect to the late leader and also prayed to the almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family.

Waqf protests against Modi government, not Hindu community: AIMPLB president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani
All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani on Sunday asserted that series of demonstrations against the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, would continue, emphasising that the 'fight' was against the Union government and not against the Hindu faith or community. Mr. Maulana Rahmani, flanked by faith leaders from various religious communities, including Sikh and Christian, and Muslims affiliated to different sects and schools of thought, as well as politicians, was addressing a public meeting organised by the AIMPLB at the Dharna Chowk. He charged the Union government with attempting to undermine the unity of those opposing the legislation. 'Our fight is only against the Central government. It is not against our Hindu brothers. The AIMPLB is of this view, and will continue with our protests,' he said. He sought to buttress his argument by pointing out that 228 Members of Parliament had opposed the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025. These MPs, he noted, were not all Muslim, yet had voted against the Bill in the spirit of secularism and justice. 'This is a country of love, brotherhood, tolerance, and generosity. We are certain that our Hindu brothers and those who stand for justice will continue to support us,' he said. He also expressed his gratitude to members of the Sikh and Christian communities who joined the protest and spoke against the Act. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi, who shared the stage with Maulana Rahmani, pledged support for the AIMPLB's campaign against the Act. He alleged that the Waqf legislation was not intended to protect waqf properties but to ruin them. He stressed that unity among protestors was essential for the withdrawal of the Act. 'Those who think they can weaken our resolve through this law will fail. We will not give up our prayers, hijab, or waqf. We will continue our struggle within the framework of the Constitution,' Mr. Owaisi said, expressing confidence that sustained pressure would force the Modi government to withdraw the legislation. Jaleesa Yaseen, representing the AIMPLB's women's wing, said the Act raised fundamental questions about Muslim identity and sought to strip the community of its rights. She maintained that women would stand shoulder-to-shoulder in the movement and ensure that the Act is repealed. Shia scholar Hyder Agha; Shafiq Alam Khan Jamai from the Jamiat Ahle Hadees; Khalid Mubashir-uz-Zafar, State president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind; and Syed Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini Saberi, member of Telangana State Waqf Board, also addressed the gathering.

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], June 1 (ANI): Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan announced that the State government will grandly celebrate the 450th foundation day of Shri Amritsar Sahib, emphasising the significance of the Golden Temple. He also stated that the government will seek public suggestions on this matter. 'Golden Temple is the centre of faith of the Sikh religion, and people of all religions pay obeisance here... The state government will celebrate the 450th foundation day of Shri Amritsar Sahib State government will also commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur government wants to take suggestions from the public regarding it,' he said. Following the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people, including a Nepali national, were killed, the Indian forces have intensified their operation against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. In retaliation for the terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, in which precision strikes destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (POJK) and eliminated nearly 100 terror operatives at key bases in Pakistan. Among the targets were Bhawalpur, the headquarters of Jaish, and Muridke, a key training base of Lashkar. Armed forces ‘united' by uniform' not divided by ‘religion': Delhi High Court
The armed forces comprise of personnel of allreligions and castes, they are 'united by their uniform' and undivided by their religion, the Delhi High Court made this comment recently while upholding the termination of a Christian Indian Army Officer who refused to participate in religious parades. The termination order makes it clear that officer, Samuel Kamalesan, was resolute in his decision of not attending religious parades citing personal religious beliefs, which was corroborated by his Commanding Officer, said a division bench of Justice Navin Chawla and Justice Shalinder Kaur. It also said that Kamalesan was terminated on the basis of his conduct and its impact on military discipline and unit cohesion, rather than solelyon the Annual Confidential Report (ACR) ratings. 'Our Armed Forces comprise of personnel of allreligions, castes, creeds, regions, and faiths, whose sole motto is to safeguard the country from external aggressions, and, therefore, they are united by their uniform rather than divided by their religion, caste,or region,' the Delhi High Court said in its order. 'The Commanding Officers are to lead by example and not by division; and by placing the cohesion of the Unit above individual religious preferences, particularly when commanding troops who they will lead in combat situations and war,' the Court said. Acknowledging the dedication of military personnel who guard India's borders day and night in adverse conditions, the court said the ethos of Indian armed forces places nation before self and certainly nation before religion. Kamalesan has filed a plea in the Delhi High Court, challenging his termination order and dismissal from the Indian Army without pension and gratuity. He has also sought reinstatement in service. Kamalesan was commissioned in the Indian Army in March 2017 in the rank of a Lieutenant in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, which comprises of 3 squadrons of Sikh, Jat, and Rajput personnel. He was appointed as the Troop Leader of Squadron B which comprises of Sikh personnel.
