These 3 Hot Stocks Are Building Out Crypto Treasuries. Should You Buy, Sell, or Hold Them Now?

Michael Saylor's Strategy (MSTR) is no longer the only company buying and hoarding large amounts of Bitcoin (BTCUSD) and other cryptocurrencies. Dozens of companies are now playing the crypto treasury game. Shareholders who were once uneasy with these crypto investments are happy with the results as crypto keeps delivering stellar returns. In fact, even the U.S. government itself has a strategic crypto reserve following an executive order from President Donald Trump, making it the largest state holder of BTC.
Swapping a slice of idle dollars for crypto can massively increase returns and give the company a more 'techy' reputation

So is it worth chasing the next firm that vows to turn itself into a Bitcoin or Ethereum (ETHUSD) piggy bank? The honest answer is that it depends, and the details matter more than the ticker.
Some managements treat the crypto as a long-term reserve, funding it with genuine profits and pledging to hold through drawdowns. Others see it as a financing gimmick to raise cheap equity today and dump later.
Here are three hot stocks that are building out their crypto reserves.
BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR)
BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) is a Bitcoin mining company that specializes in small immersion-cooled data centers. The company mines Bitcoin for other third-party companies alongside its own mining operations and sells mining equipment on the side. It has just seven full-time employees.
The stock popped in late June after BitMine announced it would raise $250 million via private placement to buy Ethereum to adopt an 'Ethereum treasury' strategy.
The goal is to eventually become the MicroStrategy of Ethereum by acquiring and staking 5% of the global ETH supply. This will make it the largest single ETH holder.
The company currently holds 625,000 ETH and 172 BTC, plus unencumbered cash of $401.4 million. In total, that's $2.77 billion. If you want outsized returns, it's worth buying. ETH has just started to outperform BTC, and many think a powerful altcoin cycle can happen this year. BitMine's stock could balloon if ETH breaks through $5,000 or more.
CEA Industries (VAPE)
CEA Industries (VAPE) was a Canadian vape company (hence the ticker), but it has recently aggressively pivoted to crypto. It announced a $500 million raise through a private investment in public equity (PIPE) deal.
The majority of that will go towards buying and holding Binance Coin (BNBUSD), the native crypto of the Binance chain. It is also used on the Binance exchange. The deal attracted over 140 institutional and crypto-native investors, including 10X Capital, YZi Labs, Pantera Capital, Blockchain.com, Arche Capital, and GSR, among others.
VAPE stock is up 330% in the past five days as a result of this deal. The market cap is still quite small at $34.5 million. That small market cap is reasonable despite the big investment amount, as outstanding warrants of $750 million can massively dilute investors if exercised.
The long-term payoff is still uncertain, but it's a good stock to put into a high-risk, high-reward portfolio. VAPE's valuation is now tied almost entirely to the market's enthusiasm (or fear) toward BNB, which just set new all-time highs. BNB will be one of the biggest beneficiaries if an altseason happens and trading activity explodes.
Bit Origin (BTOG)
Bit Origin (BTOG) is another crypto mining and blockchain infrastructure company. It is now focusing on building a large digital asset treasury, with Dogecoin (DOGEUSD) as the core asset.
Bit Origin announced a $500 million funding plan and the acquisition of over 40.5 million Dogecoin ($8.9 million). This made it the first publicly traded company on a major U.S. exchange to formally accumulate Dogecoin as a core treasury asset.
BTOG is up 150% in the past month as traders are betting aggressively on crypto stocks. There are also hopes for potential Dogecoin adoption in payment systems and a major network upgrade.
However, I think BTOG is not a buy at the moment. DOGE has fewer use cases and is a less-established crypto vs. ETH and BNB. It is also very inflationary. On top of that, BTOG itself is trading at $0.39, which is less than the Nasdaq minimum of $1. A reverse split may be ahead soon to help the company maintain its listing.

Crypto's $10 Billion Shakeout: Why Bitcoin's Rally Just Hit a Wall

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) extended its slide for a fifth straight session, dipping as much as 2.2% to $113,979 its lowest level in nearly a month as investor enthusiasm continues to cool following July's all-time high. That peak, which saw Bitcoin touch $123,200 just before President Donald Trump signed the country's first crypto regulatory framework into law, now feels like a distant memory. Ether also retreated sharply, falling 4.5% to $3,567, while the broader digital asset market gave back some of its recent gains after briefly crossing a $4 trillion market cap milestone last month. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 5 Warning Signs with NVDA. The rally had been fueled by blockbuster ETF flows Bitcoin products attracted $6 billion in net inflows in July (third-best on record), while Ether ETFs brought in $5.4 billion, marking their strongest month yet. But momentum is showing signs of fatigue. Bitcoin's Coinbase premium a real-time measure of US investor appetite flipped negative this week for the first time in two months, according to CryptoQuant. Futures open interest on CME has dropped 13% for Bitcoin and 21% for Ether from their July peaks. These shifts suggest that institutions could be taking a more cautious stance as Q3 gets underway. Traders appear to be repositioning quickly. Over $800 million in leveraged long positions were liquidated in the past 24 hours alone including $251 million tied to Ether and $200 million to Bitcoin, based on Coinglass data. At the same time, downside protection is gaining traction. Nick Forster, founder of noted that Bitcoin's 30-day options skew has swung from +3% to -1.5%, pointing to rising demand for puts over calls. Roughly $10 billion in BTC was sold OTC on July 15, triggering a 4% price dip, he added. Miners also sold off about 15,000 BTC after the record high. Meanwhile, Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN) shares fell as much as 17% after Q2 revenue came in below estimates, underscoring a broader pullback in retail and institutional engagement alike. Investors react to Kugler's resignation, firing of BLS commissioner

(Reuters) -The Federal Reserve said on Friday that Governor Adriana Kugler was resigning from the central bank effective Aug. 8. Separately, U.S President Donald Trump ordered that the commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Erika L. McEntarfer, be fired after data showed employment growth was weaker than expected last month. COMMENTS: PETER CARDILLO, CHIEF MARKET ECONOMIST, SPARTAN CAPITAL SECURITIES, NEW YORK "Obviously, (Adriana's resignation) is a negative, and that'll probably continue to pressure the dollar. That's not a good sign, when someone resigns, unless there is a personal reason, there is always a question mark as to why. So the unknown factor of that usually adds to uncertainties. "Of course, you had a major revision in the employment numbers so it's a fact that Trump fired the Commissioner of Labour Statistics, basically questioning the accuracy of these numbers because of that huge revision that we had. So, anytime something like this happens, it always raises uncertainties." CHRISTOPHER HODGE, CHIEF US ECONOMIST, NATIXIS ,NEW YORK: 'The interim BLS Chief looks to be an accomplished technocrat, which is a great sign. Going forward, should the fidelity of the data be compromised, this would place the markets and Fed in a very precarious position. I would expect the Fed to rely more and more on the anecdotes it collects from the Beige Book. Her (Adriana Kugler's ) term was set to expire in January, so no great change in policy. I have not seen an indication that she is resigning in protest, but the timing is very curious' JODY CALEMINE, DIRECTOR OF ADVOCACY, AFL-CIO, WASHINGTON, D.C. 'Today was probably the last reliable jobs report we will ever see. This isn't good for anybody looking to see what's going on with the economy, not just for workers but for the business community in general.' 'This morning's jobs report was showing what was the first indicators of probably a coming recession…it's clear he fired her (McEntarfer) for issuing a jobs report he just didn't like.' On Kugler: 'The Fed board should be independent of the president, that's for sure. He (Trump) is wielding increasingly authoritarian control over different agencies, and clearly he wants to wield that control over the Fed. The markets have kept that impulse in check so far. He's increasingly out of control.' JUAN PEREZ, SENIOR DIRECTOR OF TRADING, MONEX USA, WASHINGTON: "The way (the market) is going to interpret (the departures) is in a very dollar-negative way." "No matter what the economic picture in the United States, the one thing that holds the U.S. dollar strong in the eyes of the world is the authority and the independence of the Federal Reserve. Whenever anything comes to potentially put that into compromise then that's when the U.S. dollar spirals down." PETER TUZ, PRESIDENT OF CHASE INVESTMENT COUNSEL IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA "There will be an opening for the Trump administration to fill. It's likely he will choose somebody whose views on interest rates match his own. Then Treasury Secretary Bessent wants to have a list of possible replacements for the Fed Chair by the end of the year so, Trump is getting a bigger chance to appoint people whose views match his own." Regarding Trump's order to fire Erika L. McEntarfe, he said: "I don't like to see a bureaucrat fired just because the data that gets presented doesn't support the administration's policies. We have a president who believes the economy is strong and that interest rates should be cut . I have read nothing that suggests she was not doing a good job or conscientious. It's upsetting. We're killing the messenger here instead of trying to see what the data really says and go from there. I see no evidence that the numbers were ever manipulated. It wouldn't be big news today if it happened a lot. Certainly, it's unusual." (Compiled by the Global Finance & Markets Breaking News team) Sign in to access your portfolio

Moe disappointed by Trump's tariffs but says Carney should remove countermeasures

SASKATOON - Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe says Prime Minister Mark Carney should start removing counter tariffs against the United States to get a deal done with President Donald Trump. U.S Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has asked Ottawa to do away with countermeasures, and Moe says Canada should heed the advice. 'If we're serious about achieving a renewed, revamped and enhanced trade environment or some type of a new and improved (Canada-United States-Mexico trade agreement), somebody's going to have to move in this space,' Moe said Friday at a news conference. 'We would suggest that it should be Canada.' Trump followed through late Thursday on his threat to hit Canada with 35 per cent tariffs — up from 25 per cent — on goods not compliant with the trade agreement, better known as CUSMA. Tariffs of 50 per cent remain in effect on steel and some copper products, and levies on Canadian automobiles and lumber are also in place. Carney has imposed 25 per cent tariffs on $30 billion in U.S. goods. Moe said he's heard from farmers dinged by Canadian levies on steel bins, as it's importers pay those tariff charges. 'The reason we will be urging for a reduction of counter tariffs is they hurt Saskatchewan and Canadians, our families, our businesses and our places of work,' he said. '(It's) in the same way that Donald Trump's tariffs are pushing up the cost of doing business in the U.S. and really pushing them into a situation where the last two months running, their job numbers have been much more dismal than the projection.' Moe also called the jump in Trump's tariffs disappointing. He said he gives credit to Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc for ensuring exports compliant with CUSMA are tariff-free. Under the agreement, 95 per cent of Saskatchewan exports move into the United States without duties, Moe added. 'That is incredibly important,' the premier said. '(It) allows us largely to have an opportunity to create North American energy security, food security and manufacturing security.' U.S. Census Bureau data shows nearly 60 per cent of Canadian goods that entered the country in May were compliant with the agreement. Moe and other premiers have also called on Ottawa to cut regulations to spur pipeline and rail development. He said he's hopeful Carney's latest law to streamline approvals for national infrastructure projects will do just that. Meanwhile, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said the vast majority of her province's products remain tariff-free, because they also fall under the trade agreement. Smith said in a social media post it's unfortunate non-compliant goods will be hit with the higher tariffs. 'These tariffs hurt both Canadian and American businesses and workers, and they weaken one of the most important trade and security alliances in the world,' she said. 'I remain convinced that the path to a positive resolution with our U.S. partners lies in strong, consistent diplomacy and a commitment to working in good faith toward shared priorities.' Smith said Carney should continue negotiating with Trump, while working toward diversifying the country's economy. Both Moe and Smith recently reallowed U.S. liquor to be sold in their provinces, after temporarily banning such sales when the tariff war started earlier this year. Moe has said the 'elbows-up' approach in dealing with Trump is nothing more than a slogan. 'This is a time for us ... to make fact-based decisions, not to make decisions that maybe make us feel good, that we think are going to be good slogans or things of that nature,' he said Friday.
