Patna: CM
Nitish Kumar
condemned the audacious terrorist attack in Pahalgam, saying the whole country was united in grief and standing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his fight against
terrorism
.
Addressing the National Panchayati Raj Day function at Lohana Uttar panchayat under Jhanjharpur block in Madhubani district, Nitish praised the support to Bihar by
PM Modi
, who was present on the dais. "The NDA govt in the state has done a lot and will continue doing so with the help of the Modi govt at the Centre," he said, reminding people that the assembly election was scheduled later this year and affirmed that the state will progress more in the days to come.
In an oblique reference to RJD chief Lalu Prasad without naming him, Nitish attacked the previous govts before 2005 for doing nothing and recounted the development works done under his leadership during the last 20 years. "We introduced 50% reservation for women in panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies. During my recent Pragati Yatra in all 38 districts, the state govt launched over 400 schemes worth Rs 50,000 crore," Nitish said.
"Earlier, the condition of panchayats was very bad. When the NDA govt was formed, we amended the law of panchayati raj and municipal bodies. We have worked in every sector like water, electricity and roads," he said, adding it was a matter of pride that PM Modi inaugurated new rail lines and flagged off three new trains, besides laying foundation stones for several key infrastructure, including LPG bottling plant and electrification projects in the state. "The PM also handed over the allotment letters to 12 lakh and first instalments to 10 lakh beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana," he said.
The CM also mentioned the Centre's financial support to Bihar, especially in its last two budgets, for projects and schemes like greenfield airports, Kosi flood control, makhana cultivation, expansion of IIT-Patna, food processing and sports.
He even requested PM Modi to inaugurate the 'Khelo India Youth Games', which Bihar is hosting from May 4 to 15.
PM Modi also appreciated Nitish for empowering panchayats through quota for women and social participation. "This is true social justice," Modi said.
Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh said PM Modi would give a befitting reply to the terrorists when time comes. "The country has full faith in the power and leadership of the PM," he said.
Lalan added the panchayati raj system in the country had become more powerful in the last 10 years under the Modi govt.

Shongtong-Karcham gets 2026 deadline, HP bets big on hydro

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has set a firm Nov 2026 deadline for the completion of the long-delayed Shongtong-Karcham hydroelectric project, saying the 450-MW plant will generate Rs 1,000 crore in annual revenue and strengthen the state's green energy ambitions. Sukhu on Monday inspected the under-construction site in Kinnaur district — visiting both the power house at Karcham and the barrage site at Powari — where he met engineers and workers. He said that even though the project had dragged on for 13 years, the state's current Congress govt had fast-tracked its progress and was committed to commissioning it on schedule. "This project symbolises our focus on tapping river resources to drive economic growth," Sukhu said, adding that the state was moving actively to regain control over stalled or externally-managed hydroelectric initiatives. He claimed that the govt was assessing the total expenditure incurred on other major hydropower projects — including Dhaulasidh, Luhri, and Sunni — with plans to resume and regulate their construction under state-led terms. "Unlike the previous BJP govt, which compromised state interests, we are prioritising Himachal Pradesh's control over its energy assets," Sukhu said. The CM also announced that HP was advancing plans for a geothermal power facility at Tapri in Kinnaur and expanding its capacity in solar and green hydrogen energy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Despite being an energy-surplus state, HP still buys electricity from neighbouring states during winter for Rs 5 to 6 a unit. Sukhu said the state was ramping up solar-energy generation to offset this seasonal gap. "It has 626 MW worth of solar-power projects in various stages of development currently through the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL)," he said. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi and senior district officials accompanied Sukhu during the site visit. MSID:: 121728609 413 |

Industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan says Centre not distributing charity to Himachal

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh industries minister Harshwardhan Chauhan on Monday said that the central govt is not distributing charity to Himachal Pradesh, but the state is only getting its share, like all other 29 states of the country. Responding to the statements made by BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Suresh Kashyap, and others that the central govt is providing sufficient funds to Himachal, the industries minister clarified that if Himachal is getting funds under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, or MGNREGA, it is the right of the state. "It is not the case that Himachal started getting these funds only when the BJP came to power in the Centre. Himachal used to get the same funds even when the previous govt was at the Centre as per the set pattern," he added. The minister, however, accused the central govt of not releasing funds to the state govt, especially around Rs 10,000 crore under the post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA), though the state govt sent the claims to the Centre in the financial year 2023-24. He claimed that the central govt is indirectly benefiting other states ruled by the BJP or its allies. Chauhan questioned the BJP leadership in Himachal about whether they got any funds or schemes sanctioned for the hill state other than what the state is getting under the existing schemes. The cabinet minister also held former chief minister and current leader of opposition Jai Ram Thakur, as well as the previous BJP govt, responsible for putting Himachal into a financial mess and a vicious cycle of loans. SI paper leak case: Arrested candidates move HC for bail

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court Monday heard bail applications from 35 accused individuals arrested in the sub-inspector 2021 paper leak case. Some candidates sought bail to attend personal functions, including children's weddings, while a woman requested bail for medical attention due to her advanced pregnancy. Appearing before the vacation bench of Justice Anand Sharma, Monika, a probationer at the time of her arrest in March, argued through her counsel, Dharmendra Fageria, that she was six months pregnant and that she needed proper medical attention. According to SOG, Monika was charged with paying Rs 15 lakh to the paper leak kingpin and was arrested after she secured 34th rank in the SI recruitment exam. "We informed the court she is six months pregnant and needs proper medical care," Fageria said. However, the special public prosecutor, Anurag Sharma, objected and said she was already receiving medical attention in the jail hospital. Another petitoner, Sharvan Ram, sought bail to attend his son's wedding and his daughter's 'gauna' ceremony. Ram's daughter, Chanchal Bishnoi, was also accused in the case and is currently on bail. Sharma, however, countered the argument by telling the court that Sharvan Ram's son is a minor and cannot be married. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Don't Forget To Block Ads Before Monday Lifestyle Tech Tips Click Here Undo Other candidates also sought bail on various grounds, including citing instances of those already granted bail by the high court and Supreme Court in recent months.
