Popular Elemis cleansing balm alternative is just as good and costs £22 less

Daily Mirrora day ago

Elemis' Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm has taken over 'Beauty-Tok,' but some fans have shared their dismay at the hefty price tag, but I tried a great alternative - and it's nearly half the price
If you're a lover of makeup like me, and cannot help but romanticise the boring corporate sludge with a fun makeup look and 'siren-core' outfit - that's HR appropriate - then you'll know how important a quality daily cleanser can be.
Especially with the rise of pollution, the dirt of public transport and harsh water, our skin seems to be fighting its hardest to remain a blemish and spot-free zone. So when the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm caused a viral wave through the beauty community, I had to see what the fuss was about.
Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm - key benefits
New to London, and religiously budget-friendly, my means of trying the £49 cleanser was to nab some in the bathroom I share with my sister. Totally illegal by our terms but I was tired of my skin breaking out.
Promising to be the "ultimate cleansing experience," the award-winning product advertises itself as "three indulgent textures in one". Beginning as a solid similar to hard coconut oil, the balm then melts upon contact with your skin, working through the grime and makeup of the day.
Satisfyingly, the cleanser morphs into a creamy facewash once water is added, resulting in a thorough cleanse that saves you several cotton pads and a quarter of your micellar water. Perfect for long-wear looks, I believed this miracle balm was my one-and-only saviour - but my bank account disagreed.
Never the one to experiment with new products - which my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation can testify too - the only option was to lie in secret wait for my sister to source a new cleanser to try. The results of her consumerism paid off when she bought home a new cleansing balm that was just as good and £22 cheaper.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm - key benefits
Clinique is a well-known brand often seen in our mothers' cupboards, where we assume its products aren't for us. However, Clinique's loyal fanbase has begun to include Gen Z, who entered via the Black Honey lip balm gateway.
Named the second-best cleansing balm, Clinique's Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm scored 94/100 by Good Housekeeping, the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm has been praised for it's identical results to the Elemis' viral hit, and it's surprisingly affordable.
The balm is currently £26.95 thanks to a 21% off sale at LookFantastic. Usually £34, you can now bag the cleanser for £7 less. Alternatively, you can save £11 on the product by shopping at Allbeauty, who sells the cleanser for £22.95.
So does Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm
Compared to the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, which costs £49 for 100g, the Clinique alternative is almost half the price for the same amount at £26.95, so you're saving £22.
Having tried both, Clinique is just as gentle and able to break down layers of makeup with one wash. With an oily base, the cleanser is great at washing off stubborn mascara, activating with water into a slight cream-cleanser, and does not strip your skin of any moisture.
Emily from Cardiff wrote on Clinique's website: "This balm is the best cleansing balm! I have highly sensitive skin and suffer from dermatitis at times and this product this never causes any flare ups or disturbances.
"Despite other reviews saying its smells greasy it most certainly doesn't, it's just fragrance free which should always be seen as a bonus. It's more on the expensive side however will say lasts about 4/5 months if used every single day. 10/10".
I personally prefer Clinique as a little goes a long way – having found more of the Elemis product was needed per wash.

Primark fans rush to snap up £18 LED masks which are £382 cheaper than other shops – as beauty buy is back in stock

PRIMARK caused a stir when they released their own LED masks for just £18 compared to £399 from other brands. If you missed out on the stock earlier this year, panic not, as the bargain retailer has brought them back once again. 5 Beauty lovers have been racing to snap up the budget-friendly device, which is "rechargeable" and 'suitable for all skin types.' The beauty product features LED lights which can be changed to red, blue, or green, depending on your skin's needs. Red is thought to boost collagen and reduces wrinkles, blue fights acne-causing bacteria, and green calms skin and fades pigmentation. Shoppers have been delighted that Primark's LED mask is back, with one person writing on TikTok: 'Omg need.' Another added: 'No way!' And a third wrote: 'Looks good.' Compared to other LED masks on the market - including Current Body's £399 version - you could save £382 or more. 5 Do LED face masks work? You might've seen influencers donning the space age-looking masks on social media and wondered what they actually do. Well, they are clinically proven to aid with some skin concerns, although results will vary depending on how powerful the mask is. 'There's a lot of scams out there…most of the time, energies are very, very low,' Glynis Ablon, a dermatologist and associate clinical professor at UCLA, told National Geographic. For red light, the pro recommended 105 milliwatts per centimeter, but blue light can be lower. 5 'If it's somewhere in that 40 range, I'm ok, but if it ends up being 10, it's probably not doing anything," she added. Primark 's website doesn't currently note the strength of the lights on their mask. That said, even with a strong mask it can take time to see real results. Results depend on how often you use it, and your age and skin condition. How do LED face masks work? Are they safe? LED face masks work by using low-level light therapy (LLLT), where specific wavelengths of light penetrate the skin at different depths. This helps to trigger natural cellular processes—like increasing collagen production, reducing inflammation, or killing acne-causing bacteria—without heat or damage. Aesthetic surgeon Dr Glyn Estebanez says: ' LED light masks work by emitting specific wavelengths of light, typically in the red, blue or near-infrared spectrum. 'Wavelengths penetrate skin at different depths, stimulating cellular activity and promoting various skin benefits. 'Blue light is often used to target acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation, while red light aids wound healing and reduces the signs of ageing. "Near-infrared light can penetrate deeper to promote tissue repair and alleviate pain. ' LED light therapy is safe and clinically proven for the treatment of a variety of skin conditions and pain management. 'It's generally painless and well-tolerated. 'Most individuals experience a mild warming sensation during the treatment, but it should not cause discomfort. "Many clinical studies have demonstrated the positive effect of light therapy on skin health, but it's essential to use the devices as directed for consistent results."

This is the best budget anti-ageing cream, according to our reviews

Proving that premium-quality beauty doesn't have to cost a bomb, plenty of brands have made it their USP to deliver efficacious skincare at a sub-£20 price – think CeraVe, Byoma, The Ordinary and Weleda. Arriving on the scene in 2018 and impressing beauty editors time and time again, The Inkey List is known for its monochrome minimalist packaging and fast-acting formulas. Aiming to simplify overcomplicated skincare regimes, the brand's products span eye creams (see its cult caffeine formula), serums, moisturisers and even haircare (its scalp treatment is a bestseller). When it comes to anti-ageing, the brand is at the top of its game with its roster of affordable retinol serums, plumping collagen formulas and oat cleansing balms – but it's the bio-active ceramide repairing and plumping moisturiser that steals the show. Securing a spot in our review of the best anti-ageing creams, the formula was hailed as the best budget buy by our critic. Nourishing and firming, the moisturiser strengthens the skin's barrier to minimise the look of common signs of ageing (fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone). Packed with skincare benefits and costing less than £20, here's why The Inkey List's repairing and plumping moisturiser deserves a spot in your own bathroom cabinet. 'The Inkey List's latest anti-ageing cream ticks all the boxes of another buzz-worthy product from the accessible beauty brand,' wrote our beauty critic. Boasting next-generation bio-active ceramides as the leading ingredient, its hardworking formula aims to strengthen the skin barrier through multiple layers. 'For instant gratification, the beautifully rich and creamy texture is also infused with gransil blur, which delivers a soft-focus effect – 'blurring' fine lines and imperfection,' they added. After just a month's use, their complexion felt 'smoother, well-nourished and firmer to the touch'. Plus, the formula is suitable and effective on all skin types, and it can be used as a night cream, too. Tick, tick, tick.
