Saiyami Kher admits facing casting couch in Telugu film industry; was asked to ‘compromise' by a female casting agent: ‘I was 19 or 20'
Many actors have opened up about facing the casting couch in the film industry. Recently, Saiyami Kher shared her experience of being asked to 'compromise' by a female casting agent in the Telugu film industry. The actor revealed that she was only 19 or 20 years old when she encountered the casting couch, but had the maturity and understanding to handle the situation boldly.
Speaking about the incident to Bollywood Bubble, Saiyami Kher said, 'I have been very fortunate with regards to all the offers that I have received. In the film industry, there was this one agent who had called me for a Telugu film when I was 19 or 20 years old. She said, 'You know, you will have to make compromises.' I was trying to test her, because it was a woman saying it to another woman. I felt that deeply.'
Sharing how she handled the situation and shut down the casting agent, she said, 'So I said, 'Ma'am, I'm not understanding what you are saying.' I kept repeating that. And then finally she said, 'See, you have to understand.' So I said, 'I'm sorry that you feel that I'm someone who needs to go down this route. There are certain limits that I have never crossed in my life.' So yes, I have experienced it once, but it was just that one time when a woman actually asked me this.' Saiyami has worked predominantly in the Hindi and Telugu film industries. She made her Hindi film debut with Mirzya and was last seen in Sunny Deol's Jaat.
Earlier, another Bollywood actor, Fatima Sana Shaikh, shared a similar experience she faced in the South film industry. Fatima had said, 'He asked me, 'You will be ready to do everything, right?' I told him that I will be working hard and will do what is required for the role, but he kept saying that and I played dumb because I wanted to see how low can he get.'
The Dangal actor had also revealed that she saw the casting couch being discussed very casually and openly among producers in the South film industry. 'We were in a room, and the producers would talk about it very openly, giving indications that you have to meet people. They wouldn't say it outright, but it was clear what they meant,' she explained.

Narayani Shastri Reacts To Deepika Padukone's Exit From Spirit: 'Women Should Rest...'
Last Updated: Recently, Deepika Padukone was replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit due to some working conditions placed by the new mother. Actress Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's 'Spirit" has sparked a new debate in the entertainment industry about the rightful working hours for new moms. Popular television actress, Narayani Shastri shared her views on the matter during an exclusive conversation with IANS. According to Narayani, it is a personal choice. She told IANS, 'Someone like Deepika Padukone can work on her own terms, and if people agree to her conditions, that's great. Personally, I believe women should rest after childbirth. But if a woman feels ready and has the strength to work, and others are willing to cooperate with her conditions, then more power to her. That's how society works—those with the strength and support can move forward." Recently, Deepika was replaced by Triptii Dimri in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's highly anticipated next, 'Spirit" due to some working conditions placed by the new mother. It is believed that Deepika demanded eight-hour shifts, along with an increase in pay, and a share in the profit. The reports also claim she refused to speak the Telugu lines, asking them to be dubbed. Work-wise, Narayani will next be seen in the new television show, 'Noyontara". She will be seen in a double role in the project. Talking about her characters in her next, she shared, 'I'm doing a double role in this show. On one hand, the negative character is like a sweet knife—it's sharp but charming. On the other hand, the positive character has so many layers. As an actor, it's a delight to portray such depth." Sharing her shooting experience, Narayani added, 'In the initial days of the shoot, we would often pause and wonder if we were portraying the right energy or character. It required a lot of alertness and presence of mind. I had to constantly check whether I was playing the correct version of the character at that moment. But overall, it was a lot of fun." R Madhavan Says Pee Scene In Shaitaan Made Him Uncomfortable: ‘Had To Make It Disgusting'
Last Updated: R Madhavan says he felt deeply uncomfortable filming the urination scene in Shaitaan and reveals how he used a blanket to avoid looking and change the tone. R. Madhavan, who chillingly portrayed the antagonist in the psychological horror hit Shaitaan, recently opened up about the emotional and psychological toll of certain intense scenes from the film. In a new promotional interaction with Kajol for her upcoming horror film Maa, Madhavan reflected on one particular moment that left him deeply unsettled on set. The conversation, shared by JioStudios on YouTube, saw Kajol asking Madhavan if there were any scenes in Shaitaan that felt too disturbing or realistic to perform. Madhavan candidly responded, referencing a scene in which his character forces his on-screen daughter to dance all night, resulting in her wetting herself out of sheer physical strain. 'It was a very sensitive scene," Madhavan said. 'There's this moment where I make my daughter dance through the night. She reaches a point where she can't hold it anymore and urinates. In the original version of the film, the approach to the scene was different. But here, I realized that even as a villain, if I looked at her during that moment, it would send out a completely different message. I needed the audience to feel disgust—not pity or justification." Madhavan explained how he changed his physical performance to reflect that discomfort. 'So, I wrapped myself in a blanket, deliberately avoiding looking at her. That decision not only worked for the character but gave me relief as an actor. I could step away emotionally while still staying true to the role. I simply tell the mother, 'Can you go help your daughter?'" He further added, 'There were many such moments during filming that made me deeply uncomfortable. But I had to find ways to stay authentic while protecting myself emotionally." Shaitaan, directed by Vikas Bahl, is the Hindi adaptation of the 2023 Gujarati film Vash. It stars Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and Janki Bodiwala alongside Madhavan in a dark and sinister role. The film, which follows a family held hostage by a mysterious man who exerts mind control over their daughter, was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over ₹100 crore at the Indian box office. Madhavan's raw honesty adds another layer to a performance that was already haunting—showing how even seasoned actors have to wrestle with the moral and emotional weight of their roles, especially in films that tread psychological depths.
