Days after ditching a Gaurav Gupta outfit for Cannes red carpet appearance, Halle Berry wows in his creation: ‘Fashion has its own timing'
Halle Berry stole the spotlight at the Chopard Universe Gala at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in Gaurav Gupta couture — days after ditching his outfit for her red carpet appearance. Following speculation, the Hollywood actor finally embraced the designer's vision, dropping jaws in a corseted Bordeaux spiral gown from Jyotirgamaya, his Autumn-Winter '24 Couture collection.
The strapless gown featured a structured corset bodice and the designer's signature sculptural draping — an architectural trail. The Cannes 2025 jury member styled the look with pointed stilettos and ruby drop earrings. The collection draws inspiration from the Sanskrit phrase 'a journey from darkness to light,' exploring emotional evolution through surreal silhouettes and cosmic energy.
In an exclusive conversation, the ace designer told indianexpress.com, 'Fashion has its own timing. The energy around this look built up quietly and then landed with full impact. Halle wore it with such ease and command — it was a moment worth waiting for.'
'There was a lot of talk about whether Halle would wear our look. Seeing her finally bring this to life — and own it with such grace and power — made an even stronger impact. The right moment always finds you,' he added in a press release.
On the eve of May 12, 2025, the Cannes Film Festival shared its official charter banning nudity, voluptuous gowns, and long trains. 'For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted. The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules,' read the document.
In light of the new dress code regulations, Halle Berry had previously spoken about her last-minute outfit change during the Cannes jury press conference: 'I had an amazing dress by [Gaurav] Gupta to wear tonight, and I cannot wear it because the train's too big.'
Variety reported that she wasn't completely upset about it and decided to follow the new rules. 'I had to make a pivot. But the nudity part, I do think, is probably also a good rule,' the Academy Award winner had said, instead choosing a black-and-white striped Jacquemus halter-neck gown for her red carpet appearance.
Following the series of events, Gupta told indianexpress.com, 'Our teams had been working closely with Halle Berry and her stylist to bring a special moment to life at Cannes. While the gown couldn't be worn due to updated regulations around long trains, we remain proud of the vision we created together. True couture doesn't always need a stage; sometimes, just the intention is enough to ignite the imagination.'
This moment reaffirms Gaurav Gupta's growing global influence — a fusion of Indian craftsmanship, boundary-pushing design, and red-carpet storytelling.

Also Read: Janhvi Kapoor's YSL Moment Is The Ultimate Ladylike Finale For Cannes 2025 Janhvi Kapoor played muse to French luxury label Balmain as she leaned on a red mini dress from the brand's Spring/Summer 2025 collection. But the structured silhouette was far from just an ordinary mini dress. The off-shoulder details dipped into a scooped neckline, offering a hint of boldness. The peplum design around the waist contributed to the dramatic spin. Those bulged projections only enhanced Janhvi's hourglass figure. The mini dress was Balmain's ode to African culture, as was clear from the mosaic accents featuring a human body's face, nose and lips. Woven with Swarovski embroidery, the unique ribbed notes covering the ensemble were simply a true work of art. Minimally elegant, the outfit was the right pick for a dinner date or a glamorous night out with friends. And Janhvi, like always, carried it off like it was a cake walk. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Janhvi Kapoor (@janhvikapoor) Janhvi Kapoor resorted to understated jewellery that allowed the designer number to take the spotlight. She opted for a pair of golden studs and identical statement rings on both hands. She gave a necklace or bracelets a miss, walking on the less-is-more route. Janhvi Kapoor's clear skin served as the perfect canvas for her makeup to truly shine. She chose a luminous and dewy base that befitted her complexion. Cherry-tinted blush on the cheeks matched the colour of her dress, while glossy peach-hued lips added a fresh, youthful glow. Janhvi Kapoor rocked uber-cool black sunglasses, emanating a boss-ladylike aura. When she was not wearing those, her eye game had us impressed. The 28-year-old smudged kohl around the inner corners, expressing her love for smoky eyes. Wispy, mascara-coated lashes and well-groomed eyebrows rounded off her glam. On a final note, Janhvi Kapoor left her silky brown hair open as the curtain bangs framed her face wonderfully. Jnahvi Kapoor's little red Balmain dress gets a sartorial thumbs up.

‘Jo tera hain woh mera hain..': Twinkle Khanna and Kajol talk about managing finance in their households
Twinkle Khanna's dry wit and humour and Kajol's infectious energy bounced off each other in an episode of The Icons by Tweak India. The two discussed all things acting, parenting, running a household, and staying fabulous. When the conversation shifted to money and managing finances, Twinkle asked the Dilwale actor who is in charge of the bills at her home. Citing her example, she said: 'In my house, school and education I pay for, then I can tell them (my kids) that padhe likhe ho only because of me. So we all split things,' to which Kajol replied: 'Ajay and I are very clear about this: jo tera hain woh mera hain and jo mera hain woh bhi mera hain. And of course, bachhe toh mere hi hain. I think it's more about convenience, honestly; what works online is more me and offline is more him — so we separate it that way.' Running a household and managing finances is no easy feat. With double-income households becoming more popular by the day, having a streamlined plan to budget and invest helps share the burden equally among partners, while setting up your future generations for success. Mukesh Pandey, Director of Rupyaa Paisa, told that financial discipline is key in running a household. According to him, it is the ability to make sound financial decisions, always be within budgets, and avoid impulsive spending so that all the while, one is steadily moving toward set goals. 'Practicing financial discipline is not coming up with ways to save money but creating certain habits that consolidate one's position in terms of finance, increase it, or keep that person secure,' he said. When managing money, Pandey suggested keeping these tips in mind to run your household: Set goals: Setting short—or long-term goals gives you direction for your financial decisions. For example, if an emergency fund needs to be built, loans need to be repaid, or money needs to be set aside for retirement, each rupee earned or spent will have a definition and purpose when clearly articulated goals are stated. – Fix a budget: The backbone of financial discipline is budgeting. It portrays how money flows into and out of the house, showing how unnecessary expenditures can starve essentials such as those for education. Budgeting apps or spreadsheets can give greater visibility and control over a budget. Delay gratification: Financially disciplined people will delay gratification and evaluate the real necessity and future impact before buying that non-essential item. – Automate savings and investment: Automated savings and investments have helped keep that streak of financial consistency while reducing the temptation to divert excess funds into discretionary spending. Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), recurring deposit facilities, and auto debits for savings accounts are some tools that are available as effective means. –Monitoring and regular reviewing: Discipline is not a one-time act- it demands persistent commitment. Regular reviews of the progress of your financial plan allow its reference to other changes in income, new goals that have been set, or even economic conditions. It strengthens accountability and preparedness. Pandey added that having a basic understanding of key financial instruments like Fixed Deposits, Mutual Funds, Public Provident Fund (PPF), Health & Life Insurance, National Pension Scheme (NPS), Share Investment Plans (SIP) will allow you to keep some control of your financial journey and decisions, rather than follow them.
