Half of us feel closer to dystopian society than ever before
Season 6 of the dystopian drama sees the handmaids, previously known as symbols of oppression, speak up against the dictatorial misogynistic regime of Gilead. The fierce uprising in the series mirrors the extreme tactics used by the suffragettes.
The research commissioned by Channel 4, also reveals three quarters of Brits believe there is no better time to speak up and discuss the real-world issues women still face. A further 47% do not believe women's rights are being protected in today's political climate.
More than half of Brits 56% are concerned that our current global political climate closely mirrors the challenges faced in The Handmaid's Tale, with over a third recognising the need to stand shoulder to shoulder and protest against the patriarchy.
In reality, six in ten (59%) say women's rights have not progressed as expected by 2025. Trump's presidency, rising violence against women and online rhetoric have contributed to Brits' unease and uncertainty about their place in society - motivating 55% to act now and safeguard their future.

In the sixth season of The Handmaid's Tale, which stars Elisabeth Moss as June, Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford and Bradley Whitford as Commander Lawrence, June's spirit and determination pull her back into the fight to take down Gilead.
The research identifies what action is needed as more men supporting all women; women actively voicing and sharing their experiences; early education in schools and a focus on female leaders in power.
Nearly half believe the finale it will inspire women to stand up for their rights. The series has already shaped perspectives, with 40% saying it influenced their views on feminism and reproductive rights, and 65% saying it opened their eyes to what is happening in the world.
45% of Brits believe the show will impact viewers to change their thinking and have open conversations about upholding the rights of women.

Andrew and his wife Dawn Kerr died earlier this year in France. The bodies of Andrew, 62, and Dawn, 56, were discovered on February 6 after neighbours became concerned. Tragically, Dawn's body was found lying outside the front door with jewellery scattered around her, whilst furniture was flipped inside the property. Mr Seale was found hanged with a gag in his mouth and it was initially believed the couple had been attacked in a staged robbery. However detectives later suspected that the husband killed his wife before taking his own life. Now Callum - who has appeared in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks and in Virgin River on Netflix - has issued a statement alongside his sister Amanda, where they urged people not to attend the funeral. In a lengthy statement shared online, the pair said: "In the absence of any evidence suggesting third-party involvement in the tragic death of our mother, Dawn Kerr, the prevailing hypothesis remains that of a murder-suicide. Our mother was killed by multiple blows to the head, and Andrew was found deceased by hanging. His injuries are consistent with self-hanging, and no defensive wounds were found on his body. There is also no evidence whatsoever of any third party's involvement at this stage. "While the official investigation is still ongoing, we cannot ignore the circumstances as they stand. For this reason, we must respectfully but firmly request that our mother not be included in any way in the funeral arrangements being made for Andrew. Please do not share photographs of them together." They added: "Please do not attend Andrew's service if you were a friend of our mother. It would be inappropriate for her memory to be associated with a service honouring the man who, based on all available evidence, may have been responsible for her death. We ask for understanding, privacy and respect as we continue to grieve and seek justice for our mum." Just two years ago, Callum was beside his mother as she tied the knot with Andrew. Sharing photos from the big day online, he wrote: "Not many people can say they walked their own mother down the aisle. What a pleasure!! I love you mum. Congrats to Dawn and Andy on their wonderful wedding day and here's to a tremendous life together for the happy couple." Dawn and Andrew Searle tied the knot in September 2023 and were originally from Musselburgh, East Lothian. The pair had moved from Scotland to Les Pesquies, near Toulouse, southern France, 10 years ago. to start a new life. The pair were retired but Dawn worked from time to time as a project manager and Andrew did freelance financial work. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins star Lucy Spraggan revealed last week that she 'ripped her labia' while filming the gruelling Channel 4 military training series. Now the horrifying moment has aired on the show, showing Lucy, 34, doubled over in pain and clutching her crotch as she reveals to her co-stars that she had cut her labia on the harness during her bungee stunt. The nasty ordeal left the former X Factor star bleeding, in agony, and now facing reconstructive surgery. Speaking to The Sun earlier this month, the singer recalled her 'dignity had gone' when the doctor came over to inspect her following the incident. She told the publication: 'I ripped my labia - it was bad. That's not a common injury. Actually, genuinely, that's never been the same, so much so, I'm having some surgery soon to correct it. 'I don't really know even what happened, I guess the harness was tight. I was like: "This feels really bad. Surely there can't be anything." Dignity has gone. It was like: "Oh my God, I thought it was your leg." And I was like: "No, no, it's not!" In an interview with LadBible, Lucy explained that she was bungee jumping off a viaduct, and the incident happened after she was in free fall for five seconds before suddenly coming to a halt. She told the publication: 'You hit that sort of lowest point, obviously there's quite a lot of like "yank" and I knew that my harness was, in a bit of an odd position, 'But you've got so much adrenaline when stuff like that's happening, you can't really be like, "Oh, can I just move this?".' Knowing that something was wrong straight away, she added: 'I knew straight away that, like, that was a sincere amount of pain and it was f*****g sincere pain.' However, Lucy's SAS woes didn't end with the harness. During filming, she also nearly knocked a tooth out, fainted, and face-planted into the sea after jumping from a helicopter onto a boat, which left her with a black eye and permanently displaced facial filler. The injury was so bad that it was still visible on her wedding day in June 2024. The clip then showed Lucy in free fall for five seconds before suddenly coming to a halt at the bottom, with the tight harness leaving her with significant injuries Lucy also revealed that the force of hitting the water was so strong that it caused her facial filler to shift to one side. By that time, she was experiencing pain all over, and once she returned home, she needed to have the filler dissolved. The interview comes after the Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins stars will reportedly receive their full appearance fee even if they drop out early. The likes of Hannah Spearitt, Tasha Ghouri, Louie Spence, Chloe Burrows, Adebayo Akinfenwa, Harry Clark, Lady Leshurr, and Rebecca Loos have now pulled out of the gruelling Channel 4 show. But according to The Sun, even stars who decide to pack it in themselves still get the full fee they were promised upon signing up. Hannah, who only lasted a minute before bowing out, will still reportedly earn an impressive £10K for her brief appearance. A source said: 'Hannah Spearitt, Chloe Burrows and Tasha Ghouri will all have been paid over £10k - some as much as £20k - but unlike other reality shows, they do get paid if they pull out. 'So even though Hannah only lasted one minute, she'll still get paid over £10k for that minute. 'It's well worth stars signing up even if they don't think they can complete the show just for the payday - it might be embarrassing taking their armband off early in the show, but it's good money!'
