Saoirse Ronan among Irish stars in eye-catching gowns at Ifta awards
Saoirse Ronan and Nicola Coughlan were among the Irish stars who stepped out in eye-catching gowns for the Irish Film and Television Academy (Ifta) awards.
Ronan, who won best lead actress in a film for her starring role in addiction-recovery drama The Outrun, looked elegant in a strapless sky blue dress for the ceremony at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre on Friday.
The actress, 30, accessorised with a simple pair of dark-toned drop earrings and her hair pulled back into a low bun.
Bridgerton star Coughlan wore a black gown with billowing sleeves, ruffle detailing and sparkly black straps on the shoulders.
Coughlan, who was up for best actress in a drama for her role as Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix period drama, paired the outfit with a black Kate Spade bag.
Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy wore a navy double-breasted suit jacket over a white shirt and black tie which was haphazardly tied.
The Oppenheimer star won best lead actor in a film for his starring role in the historical drama Small Things Like These.
Bad Sisters stars Sarah Greene, Eva Birthistle and Sharon Horgan walked the red carpet together on Valentine's Day.
Greene wore an all-black outfit of black leather jacket over trousers and a high-neck top, while Horgan wore a deep purple dress with high leg splits.
Birthistle leaned into the day of romance with a scarlet strapless gown and matching red heels.
Their Apple TV+ black comedy series won three awards.
Ruth Negga also opted for a black gown which featured sheer cap sleeves. She paired it with a white bag.
Members of rap trio Kneecap, Mo Chara and Moglai Bap, dressed casually in black hoodies and trousers while fellow member JJ O'Dochartaigh wore a suit and his signature Irish flag balaclava.
Their self-titled Irish language film won four awards after receiving 17 nods in various categories across the Iftas.

NEW YORK, June 6 (Reuters) - With new celebrity owners and a bevy of fresh sponsors, SailGP hopes to harness a wave of popularity and take the global sailing championship to the next level as it steers back to New York City to race for a third time this weekend. SailGP announced actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds as new owners of Australia's three-time champion team on Thursday, just as the ink was drying on the team's first title sponsor deal with BONDS. Reynolds led beleaguered soccer side Wrexham out of obscurity and into the English second-tier Championship with an injection of marketing wizardry, cash and a popular docu-series that quickly converted legions of American fans. SailGP is hoping for their Wrexham moment, too. "The fact that we can get that sort of involvement in one of the teams is amazing, and they'll have some fun with it too, which is what it's all about," Russell Coutts, the former Olympic champion who co-founded the league, told Reuters. It was the kind of news to which fans have become accustomed, as the operation co-founded by billionaire Larry Ellison catches fire with A-listers and snares more big-name brands six years after its launch. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway joined a female-led consortium that acquired the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team last week, while the competition itself named Rolex its title sponsor in November. More than 200,000 ticketholders watched SailGP events last year, as the league reported strong growth in social media engagement, snaring younger fans. The competition expanded to 12 teams for season five, with the addition of Brazil and Italy, and announced its new docuseries last month, part of a new content development push. "We had so many sort of naysayers out there saying this is like another sailing league, it'll be gone in two years, people have tried this and done it before, it never works and SailGP has totally broken down those boundaries," said Tom Slingsby, the CEO and driver for the Australian team. The 2012 Olympic gold medallist, whose team was rebranded as the BONDS Flying Roos, said he could not have imagined five years ago his team signing an iconic brand like BONDS, as they mull potential documentary options with Jackman and Reynolds. "I would have said that's not possible. There's no chance," he said. "But here we are." The leaders in the SailGP standings are not the only winners in the sponsorship race: On Monday, the U.S. SailGP team announced Amazon has signed on as a sponsor, joining existing brands like Tommy Hilfiger and T-Mobile. "You're starting to see really big brands come in and spend money in our sport," said Mike Buckley, the CEO and strategist for the U.S. SailGP team. "We're on everybody's radar now." Buckley put his money where his mouth is in 2023, helping lead a group of investors in the purchase of the U.S. team, locking in early for the league that hopes to become the "F1 of sailing". "Larry Ellison and Russell Coutts had a vision to build a TV product that the average racing fan would spend 90 minutes paying attention to," he said. "And I think they've done just that." The New York Sail Grand Prix is set for June 7-8.

The event discussing his new book, The Forest Is The Path, is expected to be one of the star attractions of this summer's Open House Festival in Bangor, Co Down. The annual festival includes almost 100 events throughout August, and is expected to attract about 50,000 people to the city, with Bangor Castle Walled Garden and the Court House on the seafront as the focal venues. Lightbody will be talking to Irish author and broadcaster Sinead Gleeson about his book The Forest Is The Path, which was published in March, in what has been billed as a "very different and incredibly personal hometown appearance", on August 26-27. Among the other stars to appear at the Walled Garden are singers Lisa O'Neill and Mary Coughlan, folk duo Ye Vagabonds, and comedians Paddy Raff, Chris Kent and Neil Delamere. Events at the Court House include The Ocelots, twin brothers from Wexford now based in Germany, and a special festival performance by Northern Ireland Opera. Posting a clip of the music video to their official Instagram page, the band said: "This video makes the song better- We LOVE what this video is NOT – it's not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious." American-born Irish actress Ronan, who is best known for starring in Ladybird (2017), Little Women (2019) and The Outrun (2024), can be seen slowly losing her mind and acting out as she moves through day-to-day life.
