Here is all that is set to take place today.
Meloni to host Nato chief Mark Rutte
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will officially host Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte today. The meeting will take place at the Palazzo Chigi in Rome.
According to reports, this invitation signals Italy's strong commitment to Nato solidarity. According to experts, this high-level meeting is more than ceremonial. With the Nato summit looming, Meloni and Rutte are set to chart a course for stronger defence collaboration, increased military spending and unified support for Ukraine, all while reaffirming Italy's strategic role within Nato's evolving defence landscape.
UNGA vote on Gaza
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) will hold an emergency vote on a Spain‑led resolution demanding a ceasefire and humanitarian access in Gaza . This comes after a nearly identical text in the UNSC was vetoed by the United States on June 4, preventing adoption despite support from 14 of 15 members.

Since the Security Council couldn't act, member states escalated the issue to the General Assembly, where no veto is possible, to issue a global political statement. Although non-binding, UNGA resolutions reflect global sentiment. Observers anticipate broad support as most countries are expected to vote 'yes,' with the United States and Israel almost certainly opposing.
Chinese VP to meet in Spain's PM
China's Vice President, Han Zheng is set to hold bilateral talks with Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez in Madrid today. The meeting is a reciprocal of Sánchez's efforts to position Spain as a strategic EU–China interlocutor and to entice Chinese investment in green tech.
Zheng is on a four-day visit to Spain starting June 10. The trip comes after Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's earlier trip to Beijing. He is also expected to hold a formal audience with King Felipe VI. While the relationship between the two nations is largely seen as blossoming, some tensions exist, particularly concerning Beijing's anti-dumping inquiry into EU pork, which has impacted Spain as a major exporter.

'Ask Kruti what to eat, where to order, or how to cook it. Your own food agent will now be just a prompt away. Coming on 12th June!' Krutrim posted on social media platform X, with a video visualising the tool.

Hearing on Bengaluru stampede case
The Karnataka High Court is set to continue the hearing on a petition in connection to the stampede in Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives.
During previous hearings, the High Court has pressed the government for a comprehensive report, which the Advocate General was granted permission to submit in a sealed cover by June 12 due to ongoing investigations and legal sensitivities. The state government has largely blamed RCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), alleging that no proper permissions were sought for the event and that organizers 'invited the whole world' via social media without adequate arrangements.
The stampede took place during a felicitation event for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL team, where an unexpectedly large crowd gathered. The Karnataka High Court took suo motu cognizance of the incident and has been actively seeking answers from the state government regarding crowd safety, administrative planning, and adherence to protocols.

Last Updated: In the aftermath, 40 people were arrested in connection with the violence across seven FIRs. Ajit Pawar back in sugar mill poll fray after four decades, faces triangular contest in Baramati
For the first time since 1984, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has entered the race for a cooperative sugar mill election. Pawar is among the 90 contestants in the Malegaon Cooperative Sugar Mill polls in Baramati, set to take place on June 22, with the counting scheduled on the next day. Pawar's last electoral involvement in the cooperative sugar sector was over four decades ago when he was elected to the board of the Chhatrapati Cooperative Sugar Mill. His renewed participation marks a significant political moment for the region, where sugar cooperatives continue to play a crucial role in local politics and economics. The election is for the 21-member board of directors at the Malegaon mill, which is currently controlled by the Nilkantheshwar Panel, backed by Ajit Pawar. The same panel secured victory in 2019 by defeating the Sahakar Bachav Panel led by Chandrarao Tawre. Tawre, a seasoned cooperative sector figure, was once close to Sharad Pawar but later parted ways. This time, the contest has become triangular with the entry of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), which has floated the 'Baliraja Sahakar Bachav' panel to challenge the existing power structure at the mill. Election officer Yashwant Mane informed that out of 593 nomination forms filed, 503 were deemed valid after scrutiny. Following the withdrawal of 412 nominations, a total of 90 candidates remain in the fray. The electorate comprises 19,549 voters from Group A — mainly sugarcane cultivators — and 102 voters from Group B, which includes representatives of cooperative institutions associated with the mill. Ajit Pawar has filed his nomination from Group B. According to a senior functionary of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, the deputy chief minister entered the race to counter claims of irregularities in the sugar mill's functioning. 'Opposition panels have been levelling allegations of mismanagement. To counter these claims and reassure stakeholders, Pawar decided to contest himself. His involvement will signal accountability and ensure faster decision-making,' the functionary said. He added that the Pawar-led faction had attempted to arrive at a consensus and avoid a contest but their overtures were rejected by rivals. The upcoming election is particularly significant as it pits the two rival NCP factions against each other for the first time in the cooperative sector, following the party's split. Yugendra Pawar, Ajit Pawar's nephew and a member of the rival NCP (SP), said their panel was formed to address farmers' grievances. 'Mill management has failed to provide a fair price to sugarcane growers. Worker recruitment is not based on merit. Our panel consists of ordinary cultivators, unlike other panels dominated by politically connected individuals,' said Yugendra. He also alleged that some current board members are not even farmers but contractors, and vowed to restore transparency and fairness if his panel is elected.

Ludhiana: Only a regional party can solve Punjab's issues, says Sukhbir
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday appealed to the people of Ludhiana West assembly constituency to strengthen the regional party to pave the way for overall development as well as peace and communal harmony in Punjab. Campaigning for party candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman in the Ludhiana West assembly constituency, Sukhbir Badal said 'Only a regional party can fulfil the aspirations of Punjabis and resolve pending issues besides providing people centric governance. Parties from Delhi only seek to exploit Punjab.' Taking aim at the present Aam Aadmi Party government as well as the previous Congress one, Sukhbir said, 'These governments have acted like the erstwhile East India Company. They have both looted Punjab to fill the coffers of their Delhi leadership.' He added, 'The law and order situation is such that businessmen are opting to invest in other states now. Extortions and targeted killings have become the norm.' Asking the people to compare this with SAD rule, Sukhbir Badal said 'Our guiding philosophy is 'Sarbat Da Bhala'. We value and respect each community.' Sukhbir Badal also spoke on how the SAD had a proven track record of undertaking record development. 'See you around. All development projects be it thermal plants, airports or expressways - they have all come up during SAD governments.' Compare progress before casting vote: Majithia Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Thursday appealed to the electorate of Ludhiana West assembly constituency to measure the performance of the AAP-led state government with the erstwhile SAD government while casting their votes for the Ludhiana West byelection. Majithia said 'Please see all development work around you. All development work in Ludhiana city including the elevated road, Southern Bypass, sewerage works and modern policing infrastructure including CCTV coverage of the entire city has been achieved by the erstwhile SAD government. Neither the Congress or the AAP governments have a single project to their credit. There is no reason to vote for either of these parties who have only exploited you whereas the SAD has always worked for your welfare.' Asserting that the AAP government could not ask for more time to deliver results, Majithia said 'It is already three and a half years since the government took over the reins of power. If they have failed to deliver anything till now they cannot be expected to do anything in the next one and a half years'. Stating that Punjab was suffering due to the complete surrender to Delhi by chief minister Bhagwant Mann, the SAD leader said 'Ludhiana has also suffered due to this. Industry is most affected with no new investment coming into the State even as home grown industrialists are shifting to other States due to the culture of extortions and targeted killings.'
