It Starts On The Page (Limited): Read ‘Black Mirror' Episode 705 Script 'Eulogy' With Foreword By Charlie Brooker
In Season 7 of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror, the dystopian sci-fi anthology series for Netflix continues to evolve the increasingly real tech depicted, especially the growing applications and implications of AI from Hollywood to everyday life.

Written by Brooker and Ella Road and directed by Chris Barrett and Luke Taylor, the season's fifth episode, 'Eulogy', stars Paul Giamatti as Phillip, a man contacted by a tech company called Eulogy, informing him of the death of his ex-girlfriend Carol and seeking to collect immersive photo memories.
With the help of The Guide (Patsy Ferran), Phillip is able to use technology to walk through his memories. As none of the photos are usable, with Carol's image defaced in each, Phillip is left with only the painful memories of their downfall as he struggles to remember their good times. Meanwhile, the mysterious Guide helps him uncover a buried truth about his former relationship.
Here is the script for 'Eulogy' with an intro by Brooker, in which he discusses how he got to collaborate with Road on the 'bittersweet and heartbroken' love story, shares the initial inspiration for the episode reflected in Carol's name, and reveals how Giamatti's casting changed the original plan for the character.
Why do old photos feel more evocative than anything taken in today's smartphone-and-photostream era? I think it's a combination of scarcity and imperfection. Pre 2010 or so, you might have had a handful of snapshots to cover an entire decade of your life – and many of them would've been a little blurred, or out of focus, filled with red-eye and half-obscured by thumbs. The flaws make them more evocative somehow. That's why if I ran Apple – which just to be clear I don't – I'd implement an optional mode that automatically limits the number of photos you can take on any given day and randomly degrades them into the bargain, to make revisiting them later a more rewarding experience. Our episode 'Eulogy' came about after Black Mirror EP Jessica Rhoades read Ella Road's play The Phlebotomist and suggested her as a potential co-conspirator. Ella and I sat down for a long lunch and discussed areas we were interested in, stress-testing them as potential Black Mirror stories. We quickly zeroed in on memory, particularly how old photographs and music can evoke a time and place. The idea of using tech to throw someone inside a set of old images soon followed — with the aim being to create a 'cathartic, therapeutic tearjerker.' At first it was a little like Dickens' A Christmas Carol – hence Philip's lost love being literally named Carol. We pictured Philip being led through memories which played out around him in real time, with conversations and arguments and people storming out of rooms. But that began to feel a little TOO Christmas Carol. Keeping everyone frozen in place not only kept it focussed (and more eerie), it fundamentally shifted the story, into a tight, high-concept two-hander in which Philip chases a forgotten memory of Carol's face. We always knew there would be a transatlantic element to the story; originally Philip was a gruff Mancunian while The Guide was American. When we discussed casting Paul Giamatti's name was mentioned, and I almost leapt out of my chair — he's one of my favourite actors of all time. So we flipped it, retooling the character in his image. Unbeknownst to me, Paul was a fan of the show. He said when he read the script, knowing this was Black Mirror, he was waiting for some horrendous shoe to drop. But that's not what happens. This is a love story. It's bittersweet and heartbroken. But ultimately it's kind to its inhabitants. Paul and co-star Patsy Ferran knocked it out of the park, as did directing duo Chris Barrett and Luke Taylor. The ending hits me like a bus every single time I see it. Mission accomplished.

Netflix's Extraction Spinoff Keeps Getting Good News, And I'm Pumped It Just Added A Game Of Thrones Alum
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Fans of the Extraction films starring Chris Hemsworth got some good news about the franchise earlier this year, although not in the form of a continuation in the form of Extraction 3. A television spinoff is happening to expand the world of the films, and there are finally some casting updates beyond Omar Sy as leading man. Game of Thrones vet Natalie Dormer landed a role, just days after another star was announced. Dormer will be a series regular on Extraction, according to Deadline, to play the leader of a private military contractor by the name of Clayton Wisper. This will be Dormer's second project for Netflix, although it's a safe bet that working on the series will be a lot more intense than her voice work on The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. (The Dark Crystal show was cancelled in 2020.) The actress is likely still best known for portraying Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones, with Dormer's character actually in more episodes than heavy-hitters like Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley). Netflix describes the project as an "action thriller" following a mercenary on a risky mission in Libya to rescue hostages, stuck between killers and factions at war. It won't be all action, however, and the story unfolding as a TV show rather than a movie means that there will be more time for character development than could happen in either of the films. The spinoff comes from showrunner, executive producer, and writer Glen Mazzara (known for shows like The Walking Dead and The Shield), with the Russo Brothers of MCU fame on board as executive producers. While the Extraction show certainly won't be ready in time for a premiere in the 2025 TV schedule, there's more encouraging news about the progress so far. Boyd Holbrook has been cast to play an Extraction team leader named David Ibarra, according Deadline, as a series regular. Like Dormer, Holbrook has worked on Netflix productions before, including Narcos opposite stars like Wagner Moura, The Last of Us' Pedro Pascal, and Andor's Diego Luna. More recently, he wrapped his time as part of The Sandman cast with the series finale in July. Natalie Dormer and Boyd Holbrook star opposite The Killer and Jurassic World: Dominion's Omar Sy, who was the only cast member confirmed when the Extraction spinoff was announced in early 2025. (Sy also has Netflix credits to his name with three seasons of Lupin.) Now, if you're a fan of the Extraction films (both of which are available streaming now with a Netflix subscription), you may notice that I'm not listing Chris Hemsworth or any other names from the movies. At the time of writing, it's not clear how closely tied the show will be to the stories of Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), if at all. For now, you can always revisit the two movies streaming on Netflix, and keep your eyes peeled for any more casting news to come out of the show in the weeks to come. Solve the daily Crossword

Meghan Markle Couldn't Pull Superstars for ‘With Love, Meghan' Season 2, Says Insider
Season two of Meghan Markle's Netflix show, 'With Love, Meghan', is sparking buzz, though not necessarily the kind she wanted. A Daily Mail exclusive reported that insiders believe Markle struggled to land major stars this season, leaving the lineup 'underwhelming.' Instead of Hollywood stars, season two is said to feature her longtime makeup artist Daniel Martin, her personal Pilates instructor Heather Dorak, and chefs best known for appearing on another Netflix cooking show. These guests may be close to Markle, but critics say the absence of high-profile celebrity guests could hurt the show's visibility on streaming platforms. Insider highlights lack of celebrity guests on Meghan Markle's show Sources have reported that Meghan Markle wasn't able to bring in heavyweights like Oprah Winfrey or Michelle Obama on her show 'With Love, Meghan,' on Netflix. Instead, the new season features personal acquaintances and a number of individuals who already have partnerships with Netflix. This has led some to speculate that the streaming service stepped in to bolster the lineup. Apart from friends, the guest list for season two also includes several culinary figures who have worked with Netflix, such as chefs José Andrés, David Chang, and Samin Nosrat. Reviews of 'With Love, Meghan''s first season were already conflicting; some praised the show's personal touches, while others wrote it off as conceited. Many expected that season two would feature more well-known personalities, but Meghan's guest list demonstrates that she is depending more on familiar faces than on her star-studded Hollywood connections. Some insiders believe this decision could narrow the show's appeal, particularly outside of her existing fan base. Early reactions to the trailer have highlighted just how steep the challenges are for the new season. Despite the mixed responses, the series is moving ahead, with all eight episodes scheduled to drop on Netflix at the same time. Still, her fans are of the opinion that the guests she chose show that she values realness over celebrity flash. By talking about the people who have helped her in her professional and private life, Meghan may be trying to connect with viewers on a deeper level than just showing off. The show's success now hinges on its ability to resonate with viewers despite the perceived lack of star power. Monster Season 3: Latest updates on release date, cast and plot details
By Aman Shukla Published on August 20, 2025, 17:30 IST Last updated August 20, 2025, 10:20 IST The buzz around Monster Season 3 is electric, and true crime fans are on the edge of their seats for the next chilling chapter in Ryan Murphy's anthology series. Titled The Original Monster , this season dives into the twisted world of Ed Gein, a name that's become synonymous with horror. From a confirmed release window to a stellar cast and a plot that promises to unsettle, here's everything known about Monster Season 3 so far. Release Date: When to Expect The Original Monster So, when can we binge this thing? Netflix hasn't spilled an exact date, but the word on the street is late 2025, probably around October. That's prime spooky season, right? Ryan Murphy let slip in a podcast with Gavin Newsom that this season's gonna be intense, like 'not for the faint of heart' intense. They started filming in November 2024, hitting up spots in Los Angeles and Chicago, and wrapped major scenes early this year. Since Monster seasons have dropped every couple of years (2022 for Dahmer, 2024 for the Menendez brothers), October 2025 feels like a safe bet. Get your popcorn ready! Who's in the Cast? The cast is stacked, and it's got everyone buzzing. Charlie Hunnam—yep, the Sons of Anarchy badass—is playing Ed Gein, the 'Butcher of Plainfield.' Guy's got the chops to pull off creepy and complex, so this should be good. Laurie Metcalf is stepping in as Augusta Gein, Ed's super-religious mom who basically haunted his brain. Then there's Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, the Psycho director himself, and Olivia Williams as his wife, Alma Reville. That's a cool twist, tying Gein to Hollywood's horror obsession. Oh, and Suzanna Son from Red Rocket is in the mix too, but nobody's saying who she's playing yet. Keeps things mysterious, right? There's also some chatter about Addison Rae popping up, maybe as a scream queen type, but nothing's confirmed. This lineup is giving major star power, and fans are already freaking out on X about Hunnam tackling Gein. What's the Plot About? Alright, let's get into the meat of it—pun intended. Monster Season 3 is all about Ed Gein, the 1950s Wisconsin dude whose crimes were so gross they inspired horror legends like Norman Bates, Leatherface, and Buffalo Bill. Think grave robbing, body parts, and a seriously disturbing obsession with his mom. This season's leaning hard into horror, way darker than the courtroom drama of Season 2 or the psychological vibes of Season 1. Word is, it's gonna show the gritty details of Gein's crimes—stuff like making a 'skin suit' to channel his late mother. Yeah, it's messed up. But it's not just gore for shock value. The show's digging into how Gein became the 'first celebrity serial killer' after his 1957 arrest, sparking America's true crime obsession. The Hitchcock angle suggests we'll see how Gein's story bled into pop culture, especially with Psycho hitting theaters just a few years later. Expect some deep dives into Gein's head—his schizophrenia, his lonely childhood, and his weird bond with his mom, Augusta. It's gonna be a lot.
