iGA Conducts Introductory Workshops for the eGovernment Excellence Award 2025
In line with the official launch of the 13th edition of the eGovernment Excellence Award 2025, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) organized two virtual introductory workshops in Arabic and English languages, targeting participants from public & Private sector organizations, Non-government organizations (NGOs) and individuals. The workshops aimed at familiarizing potential participants with the award's categories, evaluation criteria, and participation guidelines, while addressing participants' inquiries related to the award and submission process which is open until 28 June 2025. The iGA stated that these workshops are in line with iGAs efforts towards reinforcing the public awareness on the award, highlighting the significance of the eGovernment Excellence Award and its role in nurturing innovation, supporting digital transformation, and enhancing service quality delivered to citizens and residents in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The award is also inline with with government directives to achieve excellence, boost competitiveness, improve quality of life, and promote Bahrain's ICT regionally and globally. The iGA also emphasized that the workshops are part of iGA's awareness campaign aimed at encouraging participation and the submission of innovative digital initiatives and projects through an interactive platform for dialogue, questions, and knowledge exchange. During the workshops, participants were introduced to award details and registration processes. Sessions covered this year's award categories, including Public and Private Sector Category: Best Website, Best Practice in eParticipation, Best Integrated eServices, Best Work Environment for Digital Innovation, Best Project for Digital Transformation, Best Utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Best Applications for Smart Devices (dedicated to private sector & NGOs), and a category for individuals for Best Digital Initiative, which encourages proposals for outstanding digital initiatives or ideas.

Central to this initiative is the development of Arabic-language foundational models, secure data capabilities, and next-generation computing infrastructure, ensuring that AI reflects and serves the cultural and strategic priorities of the region. Saudi Arabia is taking a whole-of-society approach to AI, embedding it in education, workforce development, and national mega-projects. Giga-projects like NEOM are integrating AI into urban planning, autonomous transport, and civic systems from the ground up, creating living laboratories for intelligent design. Even in healthcare, AI is poised to unlock $27 billion in economic value by 2030, improving everything from diagnosis to hospital operations to individualised patient care. Crucially, Saudi Arabia is not overlooking the ethical dimensions of AI also. The Kingdom ranks amongst the top three nations globally for AI ethics readinessreadines, a reflection of its early investments in responsible AI frameworks. From privacy-preserving technologies to transparent governance mechanisms, the country is positioning itself as a leader not only in innovation, but in how innovation is deployed and regulated. As the ecosystem matures, the role of enterprise technology providers becomes increasingly central. This is where companies like SUSE, known for its enterprise-grade open-source platforms, have an important opportunity to contribute. In a significant move aligning with Vision 2030, SUSE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia's National Housing Company (NHC) at LEAP 2025. AI-generated Pope sermons flood YouTube, TikTok
AFP | Paris AI-generated videos and audios of Pope Leo XIV are populating rapidly online, racking up views as platforms struggle to police them. An AFP investigation identified dozens of YouTube and TikTok pages that have been churning out AI-generated messages delivered in the pope's voice or otherwise attributed to him since he took charge of the Catholic Church last month. The hundreds of fabricated sermons and speeches, in English and Spanish, underscore how easily hoaxes created using artificial intelligence can elude detection and dupe viewers. 'There's natural interest in what the new pope has to say, and people don't yet know his stance and style,' said University of Washington professor emeritus Oren Etzioni, founder of a nonprofit focused on fighting deepfakes. 'A perfect opportunity to sow mischief with AI-generated misinformation.' After presenting YouTube with 26 channels posting predominantly AI-generated pope content, the platform terminated 16 of them for violating its policies against spam, deceptive practices and scams, and another for violating YouTube's terms of service. The company also booted an additional six pages from its partner program allowing creators to monetize their content. TikTok similarly removed 11 accounts that were pointed out -- with over 1.3 million combined followers -- citing the platform's policies against impersonation, harmful misinformation and misleading AI-generated content of public figures. With names such as 'Pope Leo XIV Vision,' the social media pages portrayed the pontiff supposedly offering a flurry of warnings and lessons he never preached.
