It likely wouldn't have been quite as funny had Lowry not teed off on the hole at 14-over par. Once the penalty was added to his bogey, the 2019 Open Champion walked to the 15th tee at 16-over for the week.

The rules of golf are quite lenient when it comes to marking your ball. You can mark it in behind the ball, in front of the ball, beside the ball. You can use a ball marker, or a coin, or a poker chip; you can even use a can of beer. Even holding your putter next to the spot while you clean your ball is okay, provided it doesn't move.

But you can't, and this part is quite clear, use nothing like Lowry did on Friday.

Before you get too wild, and we know many of you have tried, you also can't use objects you find on the green such as a twig, a leaf, or a stone. It has to be any artificial object 'used, worn or held by a player or player's caddie.'

John Wall, 5-time All-Star, retires after 11 NBA seasons
John Wall is retiring after 11 NBA seasons. Wall, 34, played most of his career with the Washington Wizards after they made him the first overall pick in the 2010 draft out of Kentucky. The five-time All-Star point guard finishes his NBA career with averages of 18.7 points and 8.9 assists per game. "Today, I'm stepping off of the court, but not away from the game," Wall said in a social media post on Tuesday. "Basketball will always be in my life, and new opportunities present themselves. I feel now is the time to walk confidently into my next chapter." Wall played most of his career with the Washington Wizards, but also played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. In his best season, he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists for the Wizards in 2016-17 and was named All-NBA third team. Wall was one of the fastest, most athletic point guards during his prime — he was the 2014 Slam Dunk champion. He was an elite defender, making the All-Defensive second team in 2015. Injuries plagued the second half of his career. He never played more than half the games in any of the past six seasons and he didn't play the last two years.

Young NHLer lives in basement of Rangers fans
A young New York Rangers forward has turned a minor hockey staple into NHL life. Article content Brett Berard, 22, lives in the off-season in the basement of a family of six. In junior hockey, players often billet with families, living with them during the season. This is a slightly different arrangement since Berard lives with them when he's not playing for the Rangers, but it's a similar idea. Article content Article content Berard told the Wall Street Journal about his unconventional setup in Darien, Conn. He explained it came about because his best friend Petey Alofsin was a fraternity brother of the eldest son of the Fiorita family. Berard had told Alofsin he wanted to train in the area and his friend said: ''No way, my best friend from school lives in Darien, you should talk to him,'' Berard told the news outlet. Article content Missy and Paul Fiorita told the WSJ they are huge Rangers fans, but didn't really believe Berard — who is not related to former Maple Leafs defenceman Bryan Berard — would really be up for the living situation, given he'd already played three years of college hockey and a couple in the minors. Article content 'In the back of my mind, I was like, 'This isn't gonna happen. A Ranger's not going to move into our house,'' Missy Fiorita said.
