'Do Not Forget Gaza': The Final Will of Anas Al-Sharif

Leaders16 hours ago
The Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif was killed alongside colleagues Mohammad Qreiqa, Ibrahim Daher, Mohammad Noufal, and Mo'men Al-Aywa in an airstrike that struck a journalists' tent near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza on August 10, 2025.
Al Jazeera and multiple human rights organizations condemned the attack as a 'deliberate assassination' intended to silence those documenting the war's realities. His final will, titled 'Do Not Forget Gaza,' has since become both a testament and a call to memory.
Moreover, he called on people to be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people, and entrusted the care of his family – his daughter Sham, his son Salah, his wife, and his mother – to others
Summary of Anas Al-Sharif's Will (Final Message):
'Peace and mercy of God be upon you. I gave all my effort to be a voice for my people from the heart of Gaza. If these words have reached you, know that Israel has killed me and silenced my voice. I urge you not to forget Gaza, and not to forget me in your sincere prayers. I entrust my family to you: my daughter Sham, my son Salah, my mother, and my wife, Umm Salah. Stand by them after I am gone…
I pray to God to accept me as a martyr and make my blood a light on the path to freedom.' Video Documenting Dutch Activist Crying

Palestinian Tragedy Lies in Powerlessness, Says Noam Chomsky

American linguist and professor Noam Chomsky said that part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support. In a video that went viral on social media, Chomsky noted that Palestinians do not have wealth or power. So, they do not have rights. 'It is the way the world works, your rights correspond to your powers. Same inside the United States, if you are a poor black kid in Roxbury, you do not have the rights of a rich person.. same in the international arena,' he added. Moreover, he noted that Palestinians may get statements of support, but no body is going to do much for them, especially when the US threatens anyone who might try to do something. 'What is called the national interest turns out to be the interest of dominant domestic forces in US society,' he said. Therefore, the national interest means the interests of the very rich, major corporations, the ones who set government policy, according to Chomsky. 'That is the national interest and not the population. Population is basically irrelevant,' he added. American Artist Heads Protest against Israeli War in Gaza

An American artist has headed a protest against Israel's ongoing war in Gaza, describing it as a genocide, in a video that went viral on social media. 'I know that this is a genocide. We are scared, we are watching it unfolds,' he said. He clarified that people cannot talk about the genocide in order to protect their careers and interests. However, 'I am not going to do it anymore. I am not afraid to speak the truth,' he said. 'My eight-year-old daughter said to me this morning: when we protest today, how are the people in Palestine going to know? Look at this. The world is watching what we do right now in this moment of injustice,' he added. Gaza War Currently, Israel is facing regional and international pressure to put an end to its war in the Palestinian enclave and allow the delivery of more aid. At the same time, the Israeli government has been facing harsh criticism from countries, nations, and individuals who considered the war as a genocide or ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Since the beginning of Hamas-Israel War, the Israeli strikes have killed more than 61,499 Palestinians and wounded over 152,800, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Dozens of Gazans including children have lost their souls due to malnutrition throughout the war that caused unthinkable humanitarian conditions. Israel's Smotrich Embarks on Settlement Plan to ‘Bury' Idea of Palestinian State

Israeli far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that Israel would 'bury' the idea of a Palestinian state by dividing the West Bank and cut if off from East Jerusalem, according to Reuters. Reviving Settlements During his visit to Maale Adumim, Smotrich revealed that both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump had agreed to the revival of the E1 scheme, a long-delayed settlement. 'Whoever in the world is trying to recognize a Palestinian state today will receive our answer on the ground. Not with documents nor with decisions or statements, but with facts. Facts of houses, facts of neighborhoods,' Smotrich said. In 2012, Israel halted construction plans in Maale Adumim and froze their revival again in 2020 due to opposition from the US, European allies, and other international powers who saw the project as a threat for a future peace agreement with the Palestinians. However, Smotrich's spokesperson said the minister officially approved the plan to build 3,401 houses for Israeli settlers between an existing settlement in the West Bank and Jerusalem. Smotrich told Reuters that the plan would take effect on Wednesday, though he did not mention what measures would be exactly implemented on that day. Palestinian & Arab Reactions The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the plan, labeling it as an extension of what it called crimes of genocide, displacement, and annexation. Meanwhile, Israel has repeatedly dismissed such accusations, justifying that its actions are based on self-defense measures. Hamas considered the plan as part of Israel's 'colonial, extremist' policies and urged Palestinians to confront it. Moreover, Jordan's Foreign Ministry denounced the move as a flagrant violation of international law. Building Jewish State In May, Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Friday that Israel planned to build a 'Jewish Israeli state' in the occupied West Bank, according to Al-Arabiya. Katz's remarks follow Israel's announcement of the creation of 22 new settlements in the West Bank. 'This is a decisive response to the terrorist organizations that are trying to harm and weaken our hold on this land,' Katz said. Katz also noted that the new settlements would be a clear message to French President Emmanuel Macron and his associates: they will recognize a Palestinian state on paper – but Israel will build the Jewish Israeli state here on the ground.
