How ESPN bosses really feel about Shane Gillis' controversial ESPYs monologue
The comedian took aim at a slew of sports stars onstage, including Caitlin Clark, Bill Belichick and Shohei Ohtani, while he even mocked President Donald Trump with a Jeffrey Epstein joke.
But according to a source who spoke to TMZ, Gillis' work hosting the show was 'appreciated' by the network, who previously featured the Notre Dame fan on 'College Gameday.'
TMZ added that ESPN and Gillis have had 'a great relationship... for some time', and said there were no issues at the network over his performance on Wednesday.
Gillis stunned attendees of the award show when he quipped about the January 6 Capitol Hill riots before bringing up Epstein.
'Donald Trump wants to stage a UFC fight on the White House lawn ,' Gillis began. 'The last time he staged a fight in D.C., Mike Pence almost died.'
'There was supposed to be an Epstein joke here but I guess it got deleted,' Gillis then continued, referencing Trump's handling of the infamous case. 'Probably deleted itself, right? Probably never existed, actually. Let's move on as a country and ignore that.'
Gillis also pushed the limit in mentioning Clark, saying when she 'retires from the WNBA, she's going to work at a Waffle House so she can continue doing what she loves most: fist- fighting black women.'
And Gillis also took aim at Dodgers star Ohtani, before setting his sights on Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.
'Shohei is a once in a generation talent. No one's been able to do what he's done at so many positions - pitcher, hitter, and bookie,' he said, referring to his ex- interpreter's $17million betting scandal .

'They do the 'Very horny caterpillar,' 'The little engine that could but needed a pill first,' and of course, 'Good night boobs.' That's my favorite one.
'Not trashing Bill Belichick,' Gillis went on. 'He is 73 years old and dating a hot 24-year-old. People are criticizing him. What happened to this country? We used to be a great country. He won six Super Bowls. He is dating a hot 24-year-old. Maybe if you guys won six Super Bowls you wouldn't be sitting next to a fat ugly dog wife.'
That last quip drew a shocked reaction from the crowd before Gillis backtracked.
'They let me do it. This is Disney. They allowed that... Yeah, we should've taken that out,' he said. 'I had doubts going into that. That didn't work all week.'
Gillis also compared Olympic gymnast Simone Biles to a 'leprechaun. '
'Simone is 4'8' and has seven gold medals. She's short and has a lot of gold. When she's not competing, she leads a very quiet life at the base of a rainbow. If you tell Simone a riddle and she can't answer, she has to give you all her gold,' he cracked.

Here We Go creator says Bedford representative of the whole UK
A comedy writer has said he set his sitcom in the town of Bedford as it is representative of the whole Basden created and writes the BBC One show Here We Go, which he also appears in alongside Alison Steadman, Katherine Parkinson and Jim former vice president of Cambridge Footlights said: "I thought Bedford was a really good location for a show that speaks to the whole country."I wanted to set the show somewhere that just felt very traditionally English but not really known for being any one particular thing." Labubu fans dote over ugly-cute doll trending at Comic-Con
SAN DIEGO, July 27 (Reuters) - San Diego Comic-Con is the latest location where the ugly-cute dolls named Labubu have been trending, with fans carrying the plushies globally popularized by celebrities Rihanna, Lizzo, Dua Lipa, and Lisa from the K-pop group Blackpink. The wide-eyed and grinning doll was created in 2015 by Hong Kong artist and illustrator Kasing Lung. In 2019, Lung allowed them to be sold by Pop Mart ( opens new tab, a Chinese toy company that sells collectible figurines, often in "blind boxes". "Blind boxes" are sealed boxes containing a surprise item that is usually part of a themed collection. Naomi Galban, from San Diego, waited in line on Sunday at the Pop Mart booth in the San Diego Convention Center for a chance to get her first Labubu. "Every time I go to a Pop Mart store, they're sold out," the 24-year-old told Reuters. She hoped to buy one for her little sister. Emily Brough, Pop Mart's Head of IP Licensing, spoke to Reuters on Thursday about Labubu fans at Comic-Con. "We love to see how fans are personalizing it (Labubu) for themselves," Brough said next to the Pop Mart booth. While Brough noted that there were many people with a Labubu strapped to their bags and backpacks at Comic-Con, the doll's popularity did not happen overnight. Labubus had a huge boost in 2019 after Pop Mart began selling them, and in 2024, when Blackpink's Lisa, who is Thai, created a buying frenzy in Thailand after she promoted Labubu on social media. Pop Mart saw sales skyrocket in North America that same year, with revenue in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025 already surpassing the full-year U.S. revenue from 2024, Pop Mart said. When he created Labubu, Lung gave the character, who is female, a backstory inspired by Nordic mythology. He called her and his other fictional creatures "The Monsters." Diana Goycortua, 25, first discovered Labubu through social media, and before she knew it, it felt like a "game" to try and collect the dolls. "It's a little bit of gambling with what you're getting," the Labubu fan from San Diego said on Sunday while waiting at the Pop Mart booth, concluding that her love for the character made it worth trying blind boxes. Goycortua already has three Labubus, and was hoping to score her a fourth one at Comic-Con.
