Taste of Syracuse vendors prepare for rain

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The unofficial start to summertime in Syracuse is right around the corner. Day one of the Taste of Syracuse kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday morning. 'When I first started doing it, they would have five, ten thousand people…now, it's well over 200,000…it's just insane,' Robin Casper, the only alcoholic vendor, said. Codi Lisi, owner of Punch'd, said every year draws in more and more eclectic crowds. '…to see, in the last couple of years, everybody just kind of comes together,' Lisi said. 'Rain or shine, hot or overcast…just to watch everybody from the community come out in every different form.' But with rain in the forecast, vendors came prepared with their weather gear a day before the festival. 'Even the littlest bit of rain isn't going to do anything…at least from anybody that I've talked to that's venturing out here,' he said. 'So, we're ready, no big deal, we're good to go.' Zach Marji, owner of Fair Deli and Chocolate Taps, spent his afternoon attaching walls of tarp to his tents in preparation. 'Rain is going to happen one way or the other, whether we like it or not,' Marji said. 'We're stocking up with raincoats and we're just going to give it the best we can.' As for manning nine different tents that sell exclusively alcohol, Casper said he is ready for whatever comes his way because he has been at the Taste for over 25 years. 'Well, we serve alcohol! So…you just kind of roll with it,' he said. 'You can't predict the weather. It is what it is.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Miami Gardens Soul + Caribbean Food Festival makes its debut

The spirit of wellness, unity, and empowerment came alive today as the Miami Gardens Soul + Caribbean Food Festival debuted at the Betty T. Ferguson Amphitheater this weekend. The inaugural event welcomed over 2,000 attendees and featured a vibrant mix of music, wellness activities, shopping, and delicious food — all aimed at nurturing the mind, body, and soul. With more than 50 local vendors on site, the festival provided a platform for holistic professionals to share their knowledge and products while highlighting the cultural richness of the community. The event was sponsored by Miami Gardens City Council Vice Mayor Robert Stephens III, who partnered with The Hungry Black Man and the Center for Black Innovation. "It's very important that we have this event in our community to showcase our local talent, our local vendors," said one participant. "You don't have to drive to South Beach — sometimes homegrown talent is here," added Chef Kriss Kofi, Founder of Dub N Grub. Family-owned businesses were at the heart of the celebration. From healthy eats to handcrafted items, attendees were treated to a marketplace rooted in community and care. "My favorite part is we're supporting local businesses," shared another vendor. "We're family — we're from Sunshine Meat Market — and there's other families here with their local business." The festival hosted food competitions, giving local culinary artists a chance to shine. Winners walked away with a $500 prize.

Northern California garlic festival returns to Gilroy for the first time since mass shooting

( –A 40-year-old garlic celebration is returning to its roots in Gilroy for the first time since a mass shooting prompted it to relocate, then later be cancelled.• In 2019, a 19-year-old gunman attacked the event, killing three people, including two children. 13 others were wounded before the shooter killed himself as police officers closed in. Subsequently, the Gilroy event moved to various locations. Garlic Festival shooting victims: Two children and recent college graduate Three years later, in 2022, officials said the Gilroy Garlic Festival was replaced by the California Garlic Festival at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds and Los Banos because of difficulties from the pandemic and financial restraints. Now, the Gilroy celebration is determined to make a triumphant comeback. 'Although we enjoyed a successful festival for three years, we believe it is better suited in Gilroy,' California Garlic Festival organizers said. 'We are pleased to see that Gilroy has implemented the necessary adjustments to revive their event, returning to its home base.' California Garlic Festival leaves Stockton for Merced County The Gilroy Garlic Festival is scheduled to take place from July 25 to 27 at Gilroy Gardens. The 3-day celebration promises to be an exciting event that includes live music entertainment, vendors, and the world-famous Pyro Chefs firing up their giant skillets with garlic-laced scampi, calamari, garlic bread, garlic fries, garlic desserts, and more. 'We are thrilled to be bringing the Gilroy Garlic Festival back this year,' said Gilroy Garlic Festival Association President Paul Nadeau. 'Our dedicated volunteers have been working tirelessly to make this event special for Gilroy and the garlic-loving community at large.' Nadeau added, 'While this year's festival will be smaller in scope, we're thrilled to be able to gather once again to honor our past, celebrate the present, and build something lasting for the future.
