Starmer told he should be ‘stabbed and shot' in threatening emails

Telegraph29-05-2025
Sir Keir Starmer was told he should be 'stabbed and shot to death' in a series of threatening emails, a court heard.
Mark Tew, 63, is charged with sending the offensive material to the Prime Minister, a criminal barrister and former Conservative ministers, including Dame Priti Patel.
The emails, which were sent between January and November 2021, were not read by the MPs themselves but were intercepted by their staff who subsequently notified the police, Southwark Crown Court heard.
In one email allegedly sent to the then leader of the Opposition, Mr Tew wrote: 'You should be beaten up Starmer, stabbed to death, shot to dead. You gutless yellow b----- Starmer. Tell the truth you miserable uneducated tosser', the court heard.
In another sent on March 11, Mr Tew was said to have written: 'Starmer, I've heard a lot of journalists are out to get you.
'To beat you up. To kick your f---ing head in. You gutless dirty bastard. You pathetic wimp. You f---ing coward Starmer. I hope they get you and bash the living daylights out of you.'
Paul Jarvis, KC, prosecuting, said: 'The prosecution's case is that Mr Tew was a prolific emailer who would often send emails to politicians and, later, barristers to raise issues and complaints he had with them and others.
'The tone of those emails was frequently rude and discourteous but politicians in particular are expected to be thick-skinned and so while those emails were unpleasant, they were not we would suggest criminal.
'The eight emails that this case is concerned with were different. Their content was more than just rude and discourteous, but contained either a grossly offensive message or indeed threats or both.'
The first of Mr Tew's messages was sent in January 2021 to Ms Patel, who was then the home secretary.
He sent an email with an image of a man attached in which he wrote: 'Patel, you thick Ugandan b----, was this man in the IRA? He says he was in the IRA. Was he?', the court heard.
Ms Patel's staff reported the email to the police, and Mr Tew was arrested for sending a malicious communication.
He told the police he was autistic and suffered from several medical conditions for which he was receiving medication, the court heard.
When the police seized his phone, they found the emails that had been sent to Sir Keir, as well as Rishi Sunak, the then chancellor, and Ben Wallace, the former defence secretary.
Mr Tew, of Camden, north London denies six counts of sending an electronic communication with intent to cause stress or anxiety, and two counts of sending an indecent or grossly offensive electronic communication with intent to cause stress or anxiety.

US woman disguised in niqab whose gun jammed during failed assassination attempt in Birmingham jailed

A US woman disguised in a niqab whose gun jammed during a failed assassination plot in Birmingham has been jailed for 30 years. Aimee Betro flew to the UK before she tried to shoot Sikander Ali at point-blank range outside his home in Measham Grove, Yardley, Birmingham, shortly after 8pm on September 7 2019. Jurors at Birmingham Crown Court found the 45-year-old graduate guilty of conspiracy to murder as well as of possessing a self-loading pistol and fraudulently evading the prohibition on importing ammunition on August 12. The jury of six men and six women deliberated for almost 21 hours before returning its verdicts, two of which were by an 11-1 majority. Betro, who is originally from West Allis in Wisconsin but lived in Armenia until earlier this year, took part in a plot orchestrated by co-conspirators Mohammed Aslam, 56, and his son Mohammed Nabil Nazir, 31, to attack a rival family in revenge for a previous altercation the men had been injured in. Wearing a white top, black cardigan and her hair in plaits in the dock on Thursday, Betro showed no emotion as Judge Simon Drew KC jailed her for 30 years, with concurrent sentences of six years for possessing a firearm and two years for evading the prohibition. He said: "You went beyond simply reaching an agreement to kill and, in reality, you did intend to kill Mr Ali. It is only a matter of chance that Mr Ali wasn't killed."

Shear delight for teenager who took sheep to collect GCSE results

A young shepherd set the baa high with her GCSE results when she arrived to collect them with her sheep, Kevin. Milly Johnson, 16, who has won awards for sheep-handling, brought along the North Ronaldsay sheep to pick up her results from Tarleton Academy near Preston in Lancashire on Thursday. She told the PA news agency: 'He's my best friend and he comes pretty much everywhere with me.' Milly said the four-year-old rare breed acted as a 'therapy sheep' to calm her exam nerves, and even accompanied her to the school prom, wearing a halter which matched her dress. As well as achieving the grades she was expecting – including two grade 7s and two grade 6s – Milly had another reason to celebrate. She received a phone call on Wednesday night to offer her a veterinary nurse apprenticeship at a farm vets. She and Kevin are also getting ready for the Young Shepherd of the Year competition in November which Milly has qualified for. The family were planning a meal at the pub to celebrate on Thursday night, although Kevin would not be able to join them. Milly joked: 'He's not old enough to drink beer yet.' The teenager regularly shows Kevin and this year won first place in the over-11s young handler's class at the Trawden Agricultural Show. Scott Parker, headteacher at Tarleton, which is part of the Endeavour Learning Trust, said: 'Milly's dedication, both academically and beyond the classroom, is exceptional. 'Her commitment to her interests and her ability to balance them alongside her studies speaks volumes about her character, work ethic and maturity. 'She is a fantastic role model for her peers and I've no doubt at all that she has a bright future ahead.'

Besotted hitwoman in burka disguise jailed for trying to kill shop owner in botched shooting after falling for his rival

A BESOTTED hitwoman in a burka disguise has been jailed for trying to murder a shop owner in a botched hit after falling for his rival. Aimee Betro travelled from the US to the UK after being hired by Mohammed Nazir, 30, and Mohammed Aslam, 56, to kill the head of a rival family. 9 9 9 The 45-year-old arrived in Birmingham, West Midlands, and disguised herself under a burka to carry out the contract hit. Lovestruck Beto had fallen in love with Nazir despite the pair meeting just three times. But when she pointed the gun at Sikander Ali's head and pulled the trigger, the weapon jammed and the target was able to flee. Undeterred, she later went to Sikander's home and fired three shots before flying back to America. Betro has now been jailed for 30 years after she was convicted of conspiracy to murder and possessing a self-loading pistol with intent to cause fear of violence. She was also found guilty of a charge of illegally importing ammunition following a trial. Judge Simon Drew KC said: "You went beyond simply reaching an agreement to kill and, in reality, you did intend to kill Mr Ali. "It is only a matter of chance that Mr Ali wasn't killed." Nazir and Aslam were previously jailed for a total of 42 years after they were found guilty of conspiracy to murder. Birmingham Crown Court heard the pair hatched the plot following a fight at a boutique clothing store in 2018. Both Nazir and Aslam harboured a grudge against Aslat Mahumad and his family after they came off worse in the scuffle. Hell-bent on revenge, they enlisted the help of the hitwoman - flying her over from the US so she could execute him or a loved one. CCTV showed Betro lying in wait outside the shop owner's family home in a Mercedes she had bought earlier that day. Around 45 minutes later, Aslat's son Sikander arrived home - with Betro leaving her car with her face covered. She was seen firing the gun at point-blank range before it jammed during the September 2019 attack. Sikander then escaped by reversing his SUV out of the road, clipping the car door of the BMW and damaging it so badly it would no longer close. After the failed shooting, Betro messaged Aslat asking him where he was hiding. She added: "Stop playing hide and seek, you are lucky it jammed." Betro later returned to the scene in a taxi and fired three shots through the windows of Aslat's home. The damaged Mercedes was later found dumped, with cops finding a black glove with Betro's DNA on it. Meanwhile, Betro fled to Manchester Airport and was back in the US the following day. A global hunt was launched for Betro, who had taken selfies before the shooting, and she was arrested in Armenia. She denied conspiracy to murder, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence and smuggling of ammunition into the UK. 9 9 9 9 9
