Man Utd's first mum hails club after help from Arsenal over 'taboo' subject
Hannah Blundell will watch Man Utd attempt to defend their FA Cup title against Chelsea from the stands having given birth in March but she is already excited to return despite saying small number of mum's in WSL remains a taboo subject
Hannah Blundell is not unusual among footballers in being more nervous on the sidelines than the pitch.
The Manchester United full-back, who gave birth to daughter Romy in March, says she will feel '100 per cent anxious' when watching today's FA Cup final against Chelsea from the stands.
And while Blundell jokes that 'it will be nice to have a break' from parenting because Wembley forbids babies from attending, she would much prefer to affect the action.
'It will be strange,' she says. 'Watching a game from the stands is so hard, it's frustrating not being able to help. But I'm really excited to be there. I'm confident in them. On the pitch you can control and influence the game but I won't be able to do anything. I'll feel everything a fan does.'
Blundell has been in regular contact with her team-mates as they prepare to defend the trophy they won by defeating Tottenham 4-0 last season.
And she's already been dropping in at training to work with the medical staff ahead of becoming the first mum to play for United next season.
'I went in this week to do a little bit with the physios and gym stuff but I spoke to the girls and everyone was chilled,' she says, though they are underdogs against her former club and recently crowned league champions.
'With Chelsea they have always had serial winners, even when I was there. They just have that winning mentality to always find a way. But again I'm confident we can get a win. We just need to focus on ourselves and make sure we'll put in a good performance.'
Being away has left Blundell more motivated than ever and when it is time to return next season she wants to 'cherish every moment' – even if it carries a host of unknowns.
She says United have been 'very supportive' since the moment she informed the club doctor and later her team-mates having initially faked an injury in the early weeks.
The club quickly activated a 12-month option to extend her contract – which would have expired this summer – and the medical and sports science staff have been speaking to counterparts at other clubs to learn about best practices for returning postpartum.
That includes Arsenal, whose defender Amanda Ilestedt returned in January after giving birth last August.
'It's still a taboo subject in a sense because there's not that many (mums in the WSL),' Blundell continues. 'But it's good that everyone can learn from each other to help myself and others coming back in the best physical shape.
'I guess I will in a sense be a role model if it goes well but we can learn from each other and hopefully it can be normalised going forward.'
For now, however, she will be an uneasy spectator as Marc Skinner's team look to inflict a first domestic defeat of the season on Chelsea.
'This is our third consecutive year (in the final), that's a massive help,' she says. 'The first year we lost, the second we won.
'Most girls have felt both sides of it. You never want to lose but I think we've got such characters in the group there is no reason not to be confident.'

Enzo Maresca told Chelsea have already signed their very own Lamine Yamal
Chelsea are set to welcome 18-year-old prospect Estevao Willian to Stamford Bridge this summer and a former Blues star has compared the youngster to Lamine Yamal Chelsea have been told they already have a player like Lamine Yamal, who has become one of the top stars in Europe after bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old in 2023. The Barcelona winger has already won two LaLiga titles and Euro 2024. However, former Chelsea star Willian has compared 18-year-old Estevao Willian to Yamal and believes the Brazilian can help the Blues "win many titles". Chelsea announced last year that Estevao would be joining the club this summer after he turned 18, having agreed a deal worth up to £49million with Palmeiras. And Willian is expecting big things from the youngster, stating: "Without a doubt, he has a lot of potential, a lot of quality. The player has the advantage of still being so young, but with great potential like Lamine Yamal, they have a similar style. "I hope that he can be very successful here in England playing for Chelsea, he can win many titles, score a lot of goals with the Chelsea jersey and he will help to win titles over the years. "My advice is that he dedicate himself to the fullest. In England, football is quite different to what he is used to. When he gets here I think he needs some extra work at the club. I'm sure he has a very good head. "There's no need to argue about his quality, he has more than enough quality to play for a big club like Chelsea. But I hope he can adapt as quickly as possible and get into the style of play here to be very successful." After his move to Chelsea was confirmed, Estevao mimicked Cole Palmer's celebration when he next scored for Palmeiras and received a message from the England international who vowed that the pair will "do a lot of great things together" at Stamford Bridge. "When I signed for Chelsea, the next day I scored a goal and celebrated like Palmer," Estevao told the Guardian. "His celebration was trend, very popular. "We talked on social media, I tagged him on Instagram, he called me a star, I said he's a star too. He said we're going to do a lot of great things together for Chelsea." Estevao has also been compared to Lionel Messi and when asked about being nicknamed 'Little Messi', he added: "I like Neymar a lot too, Cristiano Ronaldo. But my reference is Messi for everything he's done for football. "The way he plays and what he does off the pitch is a guy I always have to look up to. And, of course, for me being left-footed like him favours as well. Some people are born with talent, others have to work hard. Good examples are Messi and Ronaldo. "Messi has the talent, Ronaldo the effort. I look for both. Talent and dedication. Today in football you have to dedicate yourself, you have to keep to a schedule, train, travel, take care of yourself. You have to give up a lot. Without dedication you can't get anywhere." Jorginho leaves Arsenal, signs for Flamengo before Club World Cup
June 7 (Reuters) - Italy midfielder Jorginho has joined Brazilian side Flamengo ahead of this month's Club World Cup, following a mutual termination of his contract with Arsenal, both clubs said. Jorginho, whose Arsenal deal was set to expire at the end of the month, has joined Flamengo on a contract until July 2028. The 33-year-old Brazil-born Italy international moved to North London from Chelsea in January 2023, making 78 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. Arsenal finished second to champions Liverpool in the Premier League in the recently-concluded season. "We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect to become a free agent," Arsenal said in a statement late on Friday. Having started his career at Italian side Hellas Verona before switching to Napoli in 2014, Jorginho won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup titles during his time at Chelsea. Capped 57 times for Italy, he won the European Championship in 2020. "Jorginho's first assignment with Flamengo will be at the Club World Cup," the Brazilian Serie A club said. Flamengo will begin their Club World Cup campaign against Tunisian side ES Tunis on June 16 in Philadelphia. The expanded 32-team Club World Cup runs from June 14 to July 13 in the United States with $1 billion in prize money at stake.

Man Utd submit final Bryan Mbeumo transfer offer as Viktor Gyokeres drops hint
Manchester United are pushing to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, who they want to lead the line next season for Ruben Amorim alongside £62.5million arrival Matheus Cunha Manchester United are beginning to gather momentum in the summer transfer window - and are wasting no time in trying to get deals done. The club knows the importance of their business this off-season, after a dreadful debut campaign for Ruben Amorim, and are determined to get it right this time. United finished 15th in the Premier League and will not play in the Champions League next season after losing the Europa League final against Tottenham. They are recruiting from a position of weakness, which makes their decisions even more important, amid the financial difficulties spelled out by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The Red Devils have made a positive start to the window by agreeing a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves. United will pay his full £62.5million release clause - and hope that his addition will encourage others to follow suit. In the meantime, they are negotiating the departures of some first-team players, knowing that offloading unwanted players will be just as important as recruiting new ones. Everyone in the squad is considered fair game, meaning there will be lots of incomings and outgoings this summer. Here are the latest pieces of news involving United. Final Mbeumo bid sumitted Manchester United have made one last attempt to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. An initial bid of £55m, comprised of £45m up front and £10m in add-ons, was rejected by the Bees, so United have upped their offer. They have now offered £55m plus £5m in add-ons for the Cameroon international, who banged in 20 Premier League goals last season. The offer appears to match Brentford's stated £60m valuation for Mbeumo. It would appear the final stumbling block in the move, given that the 25-year-old forward is keen to move to Old Trafford and has already agreed personal terms of around £200,000-a-week over a five-year contract with an option for an extra year. Gyokeres drops transfer hint Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with a move to Manchester United, due to his relationship with his old Sporting boss Amorim, and he has now ruled out on summer transfer. When asked about moving back to Sweden, the 27-year-old striker told Swedish Vogue: 'After living in a warm country, it would be difficult." Gyokeres is understood to be available for £60m from Sporting this summer, but Arsenal are considered to be front-runners, because they can offer Champions League football. However, the Gunners are still considering RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, so Gyokeres' move to north London is far from certain. Hojlund's future on hold Inter Milan are waiting to get their new manager in place before deciding on a potential move for Rasmus Hojlund. Inter boss Simone Inzaghi left the Italian giants to join Al-Hilal after their defeat in the Champions League final and his replacement isn't through the door yet. Cristian Chivu is poised to leave Parma to take over from Inzaghi and he will be given a say over a potential move for Hojlund. The Danish international has a good reputation in Serie A following his spell at Atalanta and could be offered a way out of Old Trafford. Inter will need new attackers, with Joaquin Correa and Marko Arnautovic set to depart. And Hojlund could fit the bill for Chivu, although there are suggestions he could prefer Parma star Ange-Yoan Bonny instead.
