Ahmedabad plane crash: US attorney, kin of victims join candlelight vigil
Ahmedabad, Aug 12 (PTI) Family members of Air India plane crash victims on Tuesday participated in a candlelight vigil at the site of the tragedy in Meghaninagar area of Ahmedabad to mark two months since the deadly aviation disaster. United States-based aviation attorney Mike Andrews, who is in Gujarat to meet the kin of the deceased, also participated, said his media coordinator, Kuldip Israni. 'Andrews and 20 to 25 family members of the air crash victims, including passengers and those killed on the ground, participated in the candlelight vigil in memory of the victims," said Israni. Andrews, on August 8, announced that at least 65 families from India and the United Kingdom, who lost their kin in the horrific tragedy on June 12, have hired US-based law firm Beasley Allen, with which he is associated as an aviation attorney. Andrews had told reporters in Vadodara that the families have an option of filing a product liability claim in a US court, depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation. On June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 aircraft en route to London Gatwick crashed into a medical hostel complex shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and burst into flames, killing 241 out of 242 people onboard and 19 individuals on the ground, including four medical students. During the last week, Andrews met family members of several victims in Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat and neighbouring Diu. 'Mutual Verbal Consent Sufficient': Gujarat HC's Nod To Islamic Law On Dissolution Of Muslim Marriage
The Gujarat High Court ruled that Muslim marriages can be verbally dissolved if both parties consent, and there is no need for a written document under 'mubaraat' In a nod to Islamic law, the Gujarat High Court recently observed that a Muslim marriage can be dissolved through mutual verbal consent, or mubaraat. Mubaraat, or mutual consent divorce, is based on mutual verbal consent and does not need a written agreement as both spouses agree to separate. This is permissible under Islamic personal law and the ruling aligns with the principles of the Quran and Hadith cited by the court. In doing so, the court set aside a family court order that rejected the divorce plea based on the absence of a written agreement for mutual consent. A bench of Justices AY Kogje and NS Sanjay Gowda made the observation while overturning the family court order, which stated that a written agreement was necessary in mubaraat. 'The court does not find that recording of an agreement between the parties to the nikah in any written format is essential for recording the fact of dissolution of marriage. For the purpose of mubaraat, the expression of a mutual consent to dissolution of nikah is sufficient to dissolve the nikah in itself," the bench said, as per Bar and Bench. mubaraat nikah or a Muslim marriage does not mean that it is an essential requirement under Muslim personal law. ' Nikahnama only recognises the agreement entered into by the parties to the marriage by uttering the words qabool in presence of the witness that does not make a nikahnama or registration of a nikah part of an essential process of nikah. Similarly, there is no process by which the written agreement is an essential requirement for mubaraat," the court was quoted in its ruling. The HC was hearing a joint appeal filed by an estranged couple, whose divorce plea was dismissed by the family court in April. The two parties married in 2021, but had been living separately for more than a year due to irreconcilable differences. They mutually agreed to dissolve the marriage and opted for mubaraat. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. TNPSC Group 4 Result 2025 Expected Soon: Where And How To Download?
The exam attracted significant competition, with 11.48 lakh out of 13.89 lakh applicants appearing for the test, translating to approximately 287 candidates vying for each post. News18 The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) held the Group 4 examination on July 12 to fill 3,935 positions across various categories such as Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, and Typist. The exam attracted significant competition, with 11.48 lakh out of 13.89 lakh applicants appearing for the test, translating to approximately 287 candidates vying for each post. With an overall success rate of less than 0.35%, only about 3.5 candidates were selected per 1,000. This year's Group 4 exam has been regarded as one of the most challenging in recent times, with candidates and invigilators noting that more than half of the 100 Tamil questions were unusually difficult and deviated from the standard syllabus. Step 1: Visit the official TNPSC website – Step 2: Click on the result link on the homepage. Step 3: Enter the required login credentials such as application number and date of birth. Step 4: The result will appear on the screen. The selection process for the TNPSC Group 4 exam is based solely on a single written examination consisting of 200 questions, with no penalty for incorrect answers. This format often results in luck playing a substantial role in determining outcomes. For example, one candidate may correctly answer 150-160 questions and guess the remaining ones, while another candidate might correctly answer only 50-60 questions and rely heavily on guesswork, sometimes by choosing the same option for all unfamiliar questions. While the difference between candidates scoring 50 and 170 is clear, distinguishing between those scoring 170 and 170.01 is nearly impossible. TNPSC Group IV Exam Pattern: The written exam will last for three hours and include 200 objective-type questions carrying a total of 300 marks. Part A (Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test): 100 questions Part C (Aptitude and Mental Ability): 25 questions While Part A will be in Tamil only, candidates can choose between English or Tamil for Parts B and C Notably, the TNPSC Group IV Exam is conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) to recruit candidates for various entry-level administrative posts in the Tamil Nadu state government.
