People smugglers advertise ‘back door' migrant routes on Facebook
Albanian gangs are charging £4,000 to get the migrants to this country through the 'back door' route, a Telegraph investigation shows.
The gangs give migrants fake Italian ID cards that are used to fly them into Ireland, before they sneak into mainland Britain on ferries, allowing them to work illegally or claim asylum with their Albanian passports.
The immigration scam is one of a series of ruses being promoted on Facebook. Advertisements offer the chance for Albanian migrants to enter the UK via plane, lorry or yacht.
The routes are being advertised as an alternative to Channel crossings after a crackdown by authorities and the introduction of a fast-track deportation scheme that reduced the number of Albanians arriving in small boats from 12,658 in 2022 to fewer than 1,000 last year.
It has forced the Border Force and the National Crime Agency (NCA) to adapt their tactics.
Twenty Albanians were found hidden in a yacht intercepted in Cornwall in April.
Last month, 33 people were arrested as part of a crackdown on people smugglers in Northern Ireland abusing the Common Travel Area (CTA).
The CTA allows free movement between the UK and Ireland. Passports are not required for UK and Irish citizens travelling between the countries.
Although air and sea carriers say they require some form of ID, documents are not always checked. Ireland is not in the EU's Schengen area but will accept EU IDs as well as passports.
Ben Thomas, the Home Office immigration enforcement deputy director, said: 'Criminal networks seek to bypass robust border checks through fraudulent means and trap vulnerable people into further illegal activities.
'The success of this operation marks a significant step up in enforcement activity leading to the arrest of 33 criminals who attempted to abuse the Common Travel Area and undermine the UK's border security.'
In a post on a Facebook group titled Albanians in the UK, a people smuggler said: 'Who'd like to go up to the island and join their family? We have the best ways and super offers.'
An undercover reporter, posing as a prospective illegal migrant, was told: 'I'd like to suggest to you the best way – by airplane from Italy. I hope you have travelled in the past by airplane and do not have any banning orders to enter the EU. I sent a couple and a child one week ago. It went very well.
'From Italy, you get to Dublin, Ireland, and then to the UK. It's £4,000 sterling per person. Money to be paid in Albania. We send you from Albania to Italy with your Albanian passports, then from Italy to Dublin on Italian ID cards. You will stay a maximum of one or two days in Naples.
'The IDs are Italian. They are real and resemble the person travelling. No one will touch you at the gates. We have information and our person there.
'In Dublin, you claim asylum with the Albanian passport, then you go to Northern Ireland and travel to the UK. On arrival in the UK, there is no passport control. Do not worry about it.
'That family I mentioned to you went to Dublin on easyJet.'
The people smuggler sent a video of an easyJet plane with an Albanian showing the two-finger symbol of liberty.
Another ad in a Facebook group titled Work in the UK, with 17,800 members, posted on June 7: 'Lorry, yacht, and airplane. The best prices for those who'd like to get to the UK.'
A third in the same group charged £5,000 for a 'lorry to the UK'.
A fourth, dated June 1, said: 'Hello Albanians. Who is interested in getting to the UK on a small boat or lorry? Leave your mobile number and I will contact you.'
Another account, under a female name, claimed to be working for the Home Office and was willing to help asylum seekers with their application.
Her ad, posted on June 4, stated: 'Anyone who needs help with documents, I work for the Home Office and help Albanians prepare documents, write letters to family and friends, take photos with relevant descriptions – everything needed to build the case before it is sent. Please, only write to me if you are serious.'
The NCA is working with social media companies to take down adverts promoting illegal migration, with a record 8,000 removed last year.

Boy, 9, dies following attack at Green Line train station in West Loop
A 9-year-old Humboldt Park boy has died after falling down the stairs and hitting his head in the wake of an argument that turned physical at a CTA train station in the West Loop earlier this month. An autopsy performed Tuesday determined that the boy, Elijah Flores, died of blunt force injuries to the head in a death that was ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. As of late Tuesday afternoon, more than nine days after the incident, no arrests had been made as Belmont area detectives investigated, Chicago police said. The Cook County state's attorney's office confirmed to the Tribune that it had been notified of the investigation, but provided no further details. Late in the morning on August 10, a 22-year-old man traveling with Elijah got into a verbal altercation with two other men at the Clinton Green Line stop at 540 W. Lake St., according to police and the CTA. The argument turned physical when one offender struck the 22-year-old in the back with an unknown object, causing him and the boy to fall down the stairs. Authorities have not publicly stated the man's relationship to the boy. Elijah was transported to Lurie Children's Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead on Saturday. The offenders fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said. In an statement, CTA officials said they 'extends its deepest condolences to the family of Elijah Ramon Flores,' adding they would continue to work with police as they investigate. Police have not yet released an image of the suspects. Two GoFundMe pages have been launched to help with funeral expenses. One had amassed more than $16,000. 'Elijah was excited to start a new school year, full of dreams and innocence,' the page reads. According to the page, Elijah suffered 'life-threatening head and brain injuries' and was ultimately declared brain dead. An organ donor, Elijah 'will give others an opportunity to live by donating his organs,' the page states. Donations received through the fundraiser, the page states, will go directly to Elijah's mother to help cover funeral expenses and medical bills. A second GoFundMe raising funds for funeral costs and expenses had amassed nearly $1,200 as of Tuesday night.

But there's a strange divide along geographic lines. Hundreds of items just got a lot more expensive to import into the US, now that President Donald Trump's 50% tariff on steel and aluminum has kicked in. Deodorant, butter knives, baby strollers and fire extinguishers had been excluded — but not anymore. A gang of thieves concocted an elaborate scheme to steal a rare $25 million pink jewel in Dubai, but police recovered it just a few hours later. The suspects posed as wealthy dealers by renting luxury cars and holding meetings in high-end hotels. Scott Janssen was an atheist when he started doing hospice work 33 years ago. Travis Decker Manhunt: Police Share New Evidence in Daughters' Murders
Originally appeared on E! Online Authorities are sharing more information surrounding Travis Decker's case. Over two months after the bodies of his and ex-wife Whitney Decker's daughters Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, were discovered at a campground in Leavenworth, Wash., police have linked the patriarch's DNA to the plastic bags used to kill the girls, whose causes of death were determined to be suffocation, per the autopsies completed by the Medical Examiner. 'Two of the victims each had two separate bags over their heads and the third victim had three separate bags over their head,' the Chelan County Sheriff's Office said in an Aug. 19 press release shared to Facebook. 'In addition, several cable ties were located on the ground in the immediate area of the bodies. These plastic bags and cable ties were collected that night by the Washington State Patrol Crime Response Team.' After sending this evidence for DNA analysis, authorities said that they believe Travis—who is wanted on first-degree charges of murder and kidnapping—is the 'only suspect involved in committing these homicides.' Regarding the cable ties found at the scene, the police department added, 'One DNA profile was obtained from the cable ties collected at the scene. That DNA sample matched the profile for Travis Decker. No other DNA profiles were obtained from the cable ties.' The sheriff's office, who has previously described Travis, 32, as "well versed in wilderness survival and capable of spending days or even weeks in the wilderness on his own and with very little equipment,' also confirmed that their search efforts for the army veteran continue.
