index.
The Nikkei climbed 1.88% to 38,432.98, its highest close since May 13.

The Manhattan-based Court of International Trade ruled that Trump overstepped his authority by imposing across-the-board duties on imports from nations that sell more to the United States than they buy.
"The news was positive as Trump's tariff plans are a headwind for the corporate and economic outlook," said Kentaro Hayashi, senior strategist at Daiwa Securities.

"And the yen weakened on the news, which drove a rally in the auto sector," he said.
The U.S. dollar surged following the court decision, pushing the yen to fall as low as 146.26 against the greenback. A weaker yen boosts the value of overseas revenues.
Chip-related
shares
jumped after Nvidia beat quarterly sales expectations, with Advantest and Tokyo Electron rising 5.35% and 4.25%, respectively.
Cable maker Fujikura, a gauge for AI investments, jumped 5.54%. It lifted the nonferrous metals sector by 5.8%, making it the top performer among the Tokyo Stock Exchange's 33 industry sub-indexes.
Shares of Toyota Motor rose nearly 4%, helping lift the auto and auto parts sector by 3.39%.
Hino Motors and Nissan Motor jumped nearly 6% each.
On the other hand, toy maker Bandai Namco Holdings fell 2.96% to drag the Nikkei the most.

MCC collects record property tax in 1st 2 months of financial year
Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) collected an impressive Rs 150 crore plus in property tax within the first two months of the 2025–26 financial year. The collection was boosted by a 5% rebate offered to property owners. This amount represents over 63.3% of the annual target of Rs 237 crore set for the current fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. The rebate of 5% is extended till June 30. The city has approximately 2.25 lakh registered properties, of which 1.95 lakh are revenue-generating. Spread across nine zones and 65 wards, these properties form the primary base for property tax collection, which remains MCC's single largest source of revenue alongside the water cess. In the past two fiscal years, MCC collected Rs 183.82 crore against a target of Rs 214.55 crore in 2023–24, and Rs 210.03 crore against a target of Rs 251.41 crore in 2024–25. This year, with the current momentum, MCC is on track to potentially exceed its target. Speaking to TOI, Shaikh Tanveer Asif, commissioner, Mysuru City Corporation, said: "It's a record collection in just two months." 1 2 Nagpur: In a significant blow to the Maoist movement in the Dandakaranya region, 12 senior Maoists surrendered before chief minister Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to Gadchiroli district on Friday. The event, attended by state minister and Gadchiroli's co-guardian minister Ashish Jaiswal, marks a milestone in the state's ongoing efforts to curb Naxalism through its surrender and rehabilitation policy, in place since 2005. The surrendered Maoists include high-ranking members, including Sapna alias Swapnakka Buchayya Chaudhary, 55, a divisional committee member (DVCM) of the Indravati Area, Ramdas alias Somaji Halami, 55, DVCM of Kutul area committee, and Shivlal alias Sukalu Pada, 60, DVCM of Kutul Dalam, among others. The group also comprised commanders, deputy commanders, and members of various Maoist units, hailing from Gadchiroli and neighbouring districts in Chhattisgarh.
