ITV racing ace Jason Weaver off to see star golfing son Tyler at US Open
Tyler Weaver will come up against the likes of Rory McIlroy after qualifying for tournament at Oakmont
Ex-jockey and TV racing pundit Jason Weaver is set for a whirlwind trip to Oakmont to see his son Tyler after the kid completed his dream of reaching the US Open.
The English amateur will tee it up in the third Major of 2025 having come through the gruelling 36-hole qualifying event in Atlanta.
Tyler says it's his biggest achievement and brother Max will be caddie in Pennsylvania as he goes in against the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Dad is working at Epsom as part of the ITV team for Saturday's Derby and will head straight from there to the United States for the tournament before jetting back to take his place in the coverage for Royal Ascot.
Naturally, he is proud and excited for the occasion and seeing his boy peg it up against the elite and told Sky Sports Racing: 'I was able to keep track of his first round of golf [in qualifiers] before I was travelling down to Windsor and then trying to concentrate whilst working was a nightmare for me because I was refreshing the phone and seeing that he was going okay.
And then I got back luckily enough to see him finish the sort of the final five, six holes, obviously wanting to watch it on the telly, but they were covering all the different places dotted around and I was able to to hammer the machine and keep pressing that refresh button.
'Look, he's he's put a huge amount of work in. I've got to give him a big pat on the back. Obviously, the world is a very small place now, isn't it? And he was was good enough. He got a scholarship over at Tallahassee and he puts a huge amount of work in, which you have to.
He's got Luke Clanton as part of that squad at Tallahassee, so he's had something to aim at. He's the number one amateur golfer in the world who's just turned professional, so he's had a great squad to train with. I'm chuffed that his his graft has paid off.'
'This is definitely up there with my biggest achievement,' said England Golf squad member Weaver.
Tyler can't wait to get going and said: 'Playing in a major championship is a dream of mine and it still hasn't quite sunk in that I will be teeing it up at Oakmont. I am extremely lucky to have the support network that I do and none of this would be possible without them. My family are just as excited as I am.'

Rory McIlroy gambles with major change to strengthen his bid for US Open glory
Rory McIlroy will be among the favourites at the US Open next week - and the Northern Irishman is using the Canadian Open to trial a new club ahead of driving at Oakmont Rory McIlroy has made the decision to change his driver in the run-up to the US Open. McIlroy is currently competing at the Canadian Open and is using the tournament to try out a different club ahead of the US Open at Oakmont Country Club next week. The Northern Irishman has endured a difficult spell with his driver of late, after his previous club failed an inspection before last month's US PGA Championship. His driver was taken off him two days before the tournament after testing showed it had become more springy than allowed. He later admitted he was 'p***ed off' the news of the failure had leaked into the media – and McIlroy is now having to make changes in response. He has swapped the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, which he used to win the Masters in April, for the brand's newer Qi35 model. McIlroy tried it out at Oakmont last week before giving it its first official test at the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, where he hit an opening-round 1-over round of 71. 'It was my first outing with a new driver, and I felt like that went pretty well,' he said after hitting nine of 14 fairways. 'I hit some drives that I liked and that I liked to see, so that was encouraging. 'It's hard with the driver – the one I had been playing with previously, when I missed it, I was a little bit left. Then my miss with this one is a little bit right. It's just trying to figure that out and manage it a little bit. It's a nice feeling to get up the middle of the fairway and fully release it and know it's not going to go left on you.' The Qi35 isn't too different from McIlroy's old Qi10, with the same nine degrees of loft and the same Fujikura Ventus Black shaft. However, it is slightly shorter, which he hopes will give him more control off the tee at the US Open, where he triumphed in 2011. It's not entirely new to him. McIlroy used the Qi35 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier in the season, but the switch comes after his old Qi10 failed a routine test before the US PGA Championship. McIlroy was irritated that the news – which is supposed to stay confidential – was leaked and refused to speak to reporters at the tournament. 'It was supposed to stay confidential,' he said. 'Two members of the media were the ones that leaked it. I didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted, either, because I'm trying to protect Scottie [Scheffler]. 'I'm trying to protect TaylorMade. I'm trying to protect the USGA, PGA of America, myself. I just didn't want to get up there and say something that I regretted at the time.'

Michael Soroka leads combined two-hitter as Nats beat Rangers
June 7 - Michael Soroka threw six scoreless innings and Alex Call homered to propel the Washington Nationals to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Friday. Soroka (3-3) allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking one for the Nationals, who had dropped three of four games prior to the series opener. The Washington bullpen kept Texas hitless for the final three innings. Closer Kyle Finnegan retired the first two Rangers he faced in the ninth before Marcus Semien reached on CJ Abrams' fielding error. Finnegan got Jake Burger to pop out to end the game, securing his 18th save of the season. Patrick Corbin (3-5) -- a former Nationals pitcher -- threw an eight-inning complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. Adolis Garcia and Josh Smith each tallied a hit for the Rangers, who dropped their fourth straight game. Washington struck first in the bottom of the second as Nathaniel Lowe and Call began the inning with singles before Robert Hassell III drove in the game's first run with a groundout. Garcia's two-out single in the top of the fifth marked the Rangers' first hit and only their second baserunner after Kyle Higashioka was hit by a pitch in the third. Corbin cruised through the bottom of the fifth with a five-pitch inning. Smith laced a one-out single in the sixth while Corey Seager worked a two-out walk, but Soroka escaped the jam by inducing Semien's flyout. Brad Lord relieved Soroka in the seventh, retiring Burger and Evan Carter on two pitches before getting Garcia to pop out to end the inning. Jose Ferrer added a perfect eighth.
