HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Tammy Osha is the president of the Lions Club in Chandler.
On March 30, the Chandler Lions Club held a giveback night at the 'Evansville Thunderbolts Sunday Funday.' A portion of the ticket sales were to go to the Chandler Mine Collapse Relief Fund to help families whose homes were damaged or families that were displaced due to a mine collapse. Earlier this month, at least 10 homes were damaged when a mine collapsed underground.

Osha says while her property was not impacted by the mine collapse, she did want to help those who were impacted.
'The Chandler Lions Club motto is to serve. So, we do a lot for the community. We help out with the Chandler school programs. We help out with the work for the Riley Dance Marathon, town parks, anything that happens around town and a lot more. So, whenever we saw the mine collapse and the way it affected our people, the town, we immediately knew we wanted to do something to help. We created the Mine Collapse Relief Fund, trying just to collect money… and to see what we can do to help them. We're not sure how we want to be able to help. And yet, it all depends on the profits we get from the giveback nights.'
Osha says she's always been a member of different organizations, mainly involving her kids, but once her kids grew up, she decided to join the Lions Club.

'Well, I've always been a member of different organizations, mainly involving my kids as they were growing up. They're all grown now and out of school. So, when my best friend asked me if I wanted to join the Lions Club with her, we thought it was a great opportunity. Her dad had been a member for 19 years, so we saw him around town and the Lions Club members around town doing a lot of good things… we thought, yeah, it would be a great opportunity for us to get back into the community and start giving back again.'
Osha says the storms on the night of the Thunderbolts event likely impacted attendance to that particular game, but there are plans to do other giveback nights.
'Well, unfortunately, the… Thunderbolts event was on one of the nights that we had enhanced storms in the area. So I really think that the storms deterred people from getting out and attending not only the Thunderbolts game, but anything else in the area. I've talked to the Thunderbolts, and they've graciously offered to do another giveback night with us in the fall when they start their new season. We have had two other giveback nights since then – one with Texas Roadhouse and one with Tater Temptations, which is a food truck.'

Osha shared there are other opportunities coming up for giveback events, and the club is open to getting some new members.
'We have a couple more giveback nights coming up to help with the mine relief… April 7th is Bandana's, and then April 8th is Hacienda on the east side and then April 14th is Azzip Newburgh. So, you can follow us on our Facebook page… We post all of our events there, and we'll be posting the coupons and the barcodes for those giveback nights. We're always interested in new members. We meet every second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 at Chandler Community Center, and we'd love to have you.'
