Michael Bay and Sydney Sweeney are adapting the Sega driving sim Out Run
On the heels of A Minecraft Movie and, perhaps, more importantly, Gran Turismo, Universal is putting Michael Bay and Sydney Sweeney behind the wheel of OutRun, an adaptation of Sega's 3D driving simulator. For those uninitiated with OutRun—and we have no idea why they would be, considering the last entry in the series, the now-defunct OutRun Online Arcade, only came out in 2009—the game is a race against time, not other drivers. However, as for the original 1986 game, players drive their lovingly recreated Ferrari Testarossa across various courses, including Coconut Beach, the Alps, Death Valley, and the Autobahn, hoping to cross the finish line before time's up. Though not as relevant to today's gamers, what with their streaming and dabbing, the game was an incredibly popular and inventive one for its time. Streamers could probably get minutes of content out of it. Hence, Michael Bay isn't a terrible pick to shoot a real-life, oversaturated Coconut Beach, with Sweeney doing her best to avoid pedestrians in a cut-to-ribbons race sequence. The game is plotless, but if it took 28 writers to get A Minecraft Movie together, surely Bay can get this done with only 25 or 26 writers—27 tops.

New movies to stream from June 9-15 — Sydney Sweeney plays Julianne Moore's drug-addicted daughter in the dark, dramatic thriller 'Echo Valley,' which really tests how far a mother might go for her troubled kid. The movie was written by Brad Ingelsby, the man behind 'Mare of Easttown,' which had a similarly bleak tone. The stacked cast includes Kyle MacLachlan as the ex-husband and father, Fiona Shaw as a friend and Domhnall Gleeson as a pretty scary dealer. It begins streaming on Apple TV+ on Friday, June 13. — After an underwhelming run in theaters, the live-action 'Snow White,' starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, is coming to Disney+ on Wednesday, June 11. In his review for The Associated Press, Film Writer Jake Coyle wrote that, 'presumably one of the reasons to bring actors into remakes of animated classics would be to add a warm-blooded pulse to these characters. Zegler manages that, but everyone else in 'Snow White' — mortal or CGI — is as stiff as could be. Now that each member of the quartet is endeavoring to release side projects, it's clear that they all have distinct, unique taste, too. Next up is bassist Calum Hood, with his debut solo album, 'Order Chaos Order,' out Friday. All is not lost, however, for space miner Jan Dolski, who can clone himself to create The Alters he needs to get off this blasted rock before the radiation kills him. So we get Jan Scientist, Jan Technician, Jan Botanist and so on. The bad news is that each alter has his own set of personality traits, so a depressive Jan may need to figure out how to cope with an abrasive Jan. Poland's 11 Bit Studios built its reputation on the grueling survival games Frostpunk and This War of Mine, and The Alters adds a dose of 'Mickey 17'-style black comedy. All the Jans arrive Friday, June 13, on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S and PC.

Talking Heads celebrate 50th anniversary with new video
Talking Heads have released a new music video to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first show. The band - who haven't performed together since 1984 and officially disbanded in 1991 - had been teasing an announcement and on Thursday (05.06.25), they shared the first video for their 1977 single Psycho Killer, which features Saoirse Ronan. The new clip is directed by Mike Mills and shows a young woman moving through her daily routine at her home, office and car, each day becoming a different version of herself, and the Outrun actress was delighted to be involved. She said in a statement: 'To simply be mentioned in the same breath as Talking Heads is hands down one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me, let alone making a video with the singular Mike Mills to accompany one of their most iconic songs – Psycho Killer. "I have grown up listening to their music, so this truly is a childhood/teenage/lifelong dream come true. Mike, myself and the rest of the creative team had so much fun making this, and I can't wait for Talking Heads fans to see it!' Mike declared the video to be one of "the best" projects he's been involved with. He said: 'This album literally changed what was possible in life for me, so to get to play with the subversive, uncategorisable beauty of Talking Heads, and to play with Saoirse who brought so much surprise, power, vulnerability and mischief to the party, it's one of the best things I ever got to be a part of – still can't believe it actually happened.' And Talking Heads - David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Jerry Harrison, and Chris Frantz - are delighted with his work. They said in a statement: 'This video makes the song better- We LOVE what this video is NOT – it's not literal, creepy, bloody, physically violent or obvious." The group reunited for their first full reunion in 20 years in 2023 to mark the 40th anniversary of their concert film 'Stop Making Sense'. During their promotional commitments at the time, they all insisted there were no plans for a full reunion. Chris told NME at the time: 'I did try it a couple of times and the last time was about 20 years ago, and after that, David just said: 'I never want you to ask me that question again. I'm not going to address that matter.' It's a shame and it is what it is.'
