Bob Odenkirk made this movie to impress his 'SNL' buddies
The 'Better Call Saul' star has revealed that he only made the 2021 action movie 'Nobody' because he wanted to impress his former 'Saturday Night Live' colleagues.
'I thought of you guys often when I was exercising and thinking that's just a reason to be doing this is if I could pull it off,' Odenkirk, 62, told Conan O'Brien during the 'Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend' podcast this week.

'That would blow my friends' minds,' he added.
While Odenkirk name-dropped O'Brien, Robert Smigel and Adam Sandler as some of the buddies he wanted to impress, the 'Breaking Bad' actor also included comedian David Spade specifically.
'I kept thinking about Spade, I don't know why,' Odenkirk, who was a writer on 'SNL' from 1987 to 1991, laughed. 'He would go see it and go like, 'What the f–k?''

Meanwhile, O'Brien recalled how Odenkirk told him about 'Nobody' shortly before the film premiered four years ago.
Although the 'Late Night' host didn't think too much of it at the time, he was quickly impressed by Odenkirk's surprising performance.
'When it came out, I was just, 'Oh, he's so good at this,'' O'Brien shared.

The comedian was so impacted that he asked Odenkirk for a cameo in the movie's sequel, which hit theaters Friday, Aug. 15.
Even though O'Brien did not make the cut for 'Nobody 2,' he is hoping Odenkirk releases a third film so he can land a small role.
'I just want to be beaten,' O'Brien joked. 'I want someone to beat the s–t out of me.'

'Nobody' stars Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell, a retired assassin-turned-family man who must return to his former life after his family becomes the target of an unforgiving crime lord.
The film's sequel reportedly picks up shortly after the events of the first movie, and Odenkirk's character takes his family on a much-needed vacation.

However, they soon find themselves in the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator, a shady sheriff and a bloodthirsty crime boss, and Hutch must once again save his family from the danger.
While the sequel only just hit theaters, Odenkirk still teased the possibility of a third 'Nobody' movie on Thursday during an interview with the Associated Press.
The two-time Emmy-winner said that he would like to make a third film that ends with his character having nothing left.

'Yeah, the moral would be that everything he loves is gone,' Odenkirk told the outlet. 'He burned everything he loved.'
'We let him get away with it because the movie is an entertainment, and it's meant to tell you: Yes, you can let go of your rage in this magical world,' the 'Glengarry Glen Ross' Broadway star continued. 'But in the end, I would think that it's an addiction. And he does want to do it. He does want to have a go, and so does every guy.'
'That's why we have movies,' Odenkirk concluded. 'And that's why we have boxing matches.'

Sydney Sweeney's new movie ‘Americana' bombs at box office
Sydney Sweeney's new movie took a tumble at the box office in the wake of backlash stemming from the actress's recent ad campaign with retailer American Eagle. 'Americana,' which Sweeney stars in alongside Paul Walter Hauser and Halsey, opened to an estimated $500,000 at the box office after debuting in 1,100 nationwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In comparison, current blockbusters 'Weapons,' 'Freakier Friday' and 'Nobody 2' recently reeled in an estimated $25 million, $14.5 million and $9.3 million, respectively. The 'Euphoria' star came under fire last month after her new ad campaign, 'Sydney Has Great Jeans,' a play on 'good genes,' debuted for the popular clothing retailer. Some criticized the jeans campaign, featuring the blond-haired, blue-eyed actress, as having racist undertones. 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color,' Sweeney says in one video. 'My jeans are blue.' President Trump eventually waded into the discourse in defense of Sweeney. 'Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out there. It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney!' Trump said in a Truth Social post. Did Sweeney's controversial ads play a role in the film's less-than-stellar opening? Deadline notes that while it may have had an impact, the film was never projected to be a major blockbuster hit and is still expected to be profitable for Lionsgate.

‘Weapons' maintained top spot during second weekend, scaring off newcomer ‘Nobody 2'
LOS ANGELES — 'Weapons' scared its way to the top of the box office in its debut and managed to stay there during its second box office weekend, beating out 'Freakier Friday' and newcomer 'Nobody 2.' Zach Cregger's horror earned $25 million in 3,450 North American theaters, a 43% drop from its first weekend. The highly anticipated film benefitted from strong audience reviews and social media trends to attract large crowds. 'Freakier Friday,' which lost the battle for first place to 'Weapons' during its double premiere, also maintained its second spot, bringing in $14.5 million domestically. The films' staying power comes during a slower box office weekend, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for the data firm Comscore. Both films also prevailed against 'Nobody 2,' the R-rated action sequel. The Bob Odenkirk-led film earned $9.25 million across 3,260 North American theaters in its debut weekend. 'August came on strong last year, so it makes comparisons tough,' Dergarabedian said, noting the box office success of movies like 'Deadpool and Wolverine' and the horror sci-fi 'Alien: Romulus' that premiered this time last year. This summer is unlikely to hit the $4 billion benchmark, but succeeded in provided movie goers a dynamic and diverse slate of movies, he said. 'I can't find a genre that's not represented or a demographic that wouldn't be attracted to one of these films out there,' Dergarabedian said. 'It's just that eclectic mix of films with appeal to every demographic.' 'Nobody 2' follows the pandemic success of the first in the series, 'Nobody,' which released in 2021. In the sequel, Hutch Mansell, the assassin-turned-nice-guy, played by Odenkirk, returns to the big screen, this time taking a much-needed family vacation that goes awry. The calm weekend turns anything but as Mansell uncovers a corrupt town. Jim Orr, president of domestic distributions at Universal Pictures, said he hopes the movie's reaction scores — a 89% Audience score and B+ CinemaScore — point 'to a long and successful run at the domestic box office.' 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' took the fourth spot during its fourth weekend in theaters, bringing in $8.8 million domestically. The film stumbled at the box office after its initially strong $118 million debut. Another sequel, 'The Bad Guys 2,' took fifth place with $7.5 million during its third weekend in theaters. Notably, Dergarabedian said, international movies made a splash in the top 15 this weekend. 'Coolie,' an Indian action thriller, debuted domestically and snatched the tenth spot, followed by 'War 2,' another Indian action movie, at number 11. The domestic re-release of 'Shin Godzilla,' a Japanese film that initially premiered in 2016, came in at the 12th spot. With final domestic figures being released Monday, this list factors in the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore: 1. 'Weapons,' $25 million. 2. 'Freakier Friday,' $14.5 million. 3. 'Nobody 2,' $9.25 million. 4. 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps,' $8.8 million. 5. 'The Bad Guys 2,' $7.5 million. 6. 'Superman,' $5.3 million. 7. 'The Naked Gun,' $4.8 million. 8. 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' $2.9 million. 9. 'F1: The Movie,' $2.6 million. 10. 'Coolie,' $2.4 million.
