Emmerdale's Robert gains unexpected new ally in mission to take down John
Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) made a new friend in tonight's Emmerdale as he realised not everyone in the village is a fan of his brother John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
A few weeks ago, John visited Robert in prison in an attempt to keep him away from the village, but more specifically, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). Robert pushed John's buttons so much, he grew incredibly angry and frustrated.
John threatened his brother, saying that he could take his life, and that he had no idea what he's capable of.
Ever since, Robert has kept this interaction at the front of his mind. He returned to Emmerdale a couple of days later and told John and Aaron that he was back to spend more time with his family, but it was obvious he also wanted to get his ex away from his distant brother, who he thinks is dangerous.
Well, he's not wrong.
Yesterday, Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) grew frustrated over being torn between her two brothers and decided to do something about it. She took John and Robert to some old family land and said their past relatives would never let fights bother them for very long, because they had to work together at the end of the day.
John and Robert understood what Vic was trying to say and shook hands. However, because this happened away from where Victoria was standing, she failed to hear John and Robert's conversation as they made it abundantly clear they only intended to play happy families for their sister.
Continuing the act tonight, John and Robert found themselves attending a lunch at The Hide. It was terribly awkward, and Vic was definitely trying too hard.
Afterwards, Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) paid a visit to Vic to inform her that he'd be moving back to Butlers. Conversation then turned to the fact Robert still needs a job after losing his trial at the depot.
Knowing exactly what it's like to re-adjust to normal life after time in prison, Matty gave Robert a chance and a few hours on the farm.
When Robert turned up at the barn, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) expressed his worry over Robert working alongside John, but he said it wouldn't be a problem.
Robert's shift at Butlers ended up going quite well. So much so, he decided to join Mack and Matty that afternoon for a few drinks in the pub.

As Matty went to the bar, Robert and Mack started talking about John. More Trending
Robert realised that Mackenzie wasn't a massive fan of John. He said that he really didn't like him previously, but his opinion of him has changed slightly due to John having his back a couple of times.
Despite this, Robert seemed to focus on the fact Mack does not share the same opinion as everyone else when it comes to John.

How Clint Eastwood foreshadowed controversial Brokeback Mountain Oscars loss
Brokeback Mountain's co-writer has revealed the moment she released the much-lauded gay cowboy drama wouldn't win the best picture Oscar in 2006. Despite the accolades and praise it had garnered up to that point – including four Baftas and four Golden Globes – and going into the evening with eight nominations, the movie was destined to lose the night's top prize. The 78th Academy Awards also became infamous as the film chosen instead was Crash, now often cited as one of the worst candidates to win best picture In a new interview to mark the upcoming 20th anniversary of Brokeback Mountain's release, producer and co-writer Diana Ossana agreed that she felt her film should have won instead but insisted she 'hold[s] no grudge'. Ossana also revealed she knew before the Oscars that Brokeback Mountain wouldn't triumph in that category after attending a nominees' party after Academy Awards voting had already closed – and learning a personally disappointing piece of news. The event was held at the home of Paul Haggis, co-incidentally the director of Crash, and also attended by Clint Eastwood, who the previous year had enjoyed success at the Academy Awards with Million Dollar Baby. As a fan of Unforgiven in particular, Ossana was particularly excited to meet Eastwood. 'Paul started walking me over and he goes, 'Diana, I have to tell you, he hasn't seen your movie.' And it was like somebody kicked me in the stomach,' she recalled while speaking to the New York Times. 'That's when I knew we would not win best picture.' More Trending Brokeback Mountain did still go on to scoop best director, best adapted screenplay and best original score at the Oscars. But Ossana, who co-wrote the picture with Larry McMurty, believes that homophobia contributed to the western's defeat in the main category. 'People want to deny that, but what else could it have been? We'd won everything up until then,' she added. Metro has contacted a representative for Clint Eastwood for comment. Got a story? Brooklyn Beckham takes another swipe at dad David with surprising family post
Brooklyn Beckham has seemingly taken a further swipe at dad Sir David Beckham by showing there are certain family members he is still close with. The photographer-turned-chef and his famous family have been making headlines for weeks due to an alleged rift. Reports of bad blood in the Beckham camp first resurfaced when Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, failed to show up at Sir David's 50th birthday bash, despite all his other children attending. Since then, the hot sauce brand owner has made it clear where he'd rather be, vowing to 'always choose' Nicola, whom he wed in 2022, with a seemingly very telling Instagram post. As for his parents, while neither Sir David nor wife Victoria has addressed the reported feud, they have made several declarations of love for all their kids, Brooklyn included, online. Alas, these have not been reciprocated, meaning Brooklyn's latest Insta post dedicated to his grandmother might come as a surprise. Proving that not all family ties have been severed, the eldest Beckham boy wished Sir David's mother, Sandra, a happy birthday. Taking to his Story, he wrote alongside a throwback snap: 'Happy birthday nanny xx love you so much'. It's certainly a stark contrast to his actions around his father's milestone, which he let pass without a word publicly. At the time, a source told Metro that Brooklyn was 'disappointed in himself' for doing so. Sandra was showered with love by all Beckham children on her 76th birthday, with Romeo, 22, also writing alongside a post: 'Happy birthday love you lots'. Cruz, 20, shared with his snap: 'Happy birthday @sandra_beckham49 I love you lots.' Proud son Sir David, who was recently awarded a knighthood, uploaded a series of childhood photos to his grid, writing: 'Thank you for always being there for us all'. Former Spice Girl Victoria then hinted at some big party plans in the comments: 'Happy birthday Sandra xx we love u xxxxxx can't wait to celebrate you!!! Xx' Brooklyn's latest bday post isn't actually the only dig to come this week, as fans were also aghast when he wished Nicola's father, billionaire tycoon Nelson Peltz, a happy birthday. Earlier this week, Brooklyn posted a picture of Nelson, him, and his wife, writing: 'Happy birthday, Nelson, we love you.' Lola actress Nicola has long been open about her love for her family, telling Byrdie in February 2024: 'Family is everything to me, and I mean that with my whole heart.' She added: 'I go to Florida any chance I get, and we stay at my parents' house. It honestly makes me so happy to wake up and have my siblings around. It's really hard to get us all in the same place because there are so many of us. When we're all together, it's so fun.' It's believed that Victoria is desperate for Brooklyn to end his feud with his own father, with a source close to her telling Metro that she is 'heartbroken' over how things have changed. 'She's hoping Brooklyn will come around and see things for what they are. They've always been a close-knit family, and seeing how things are now has been devastating for Victoria and David,' added the insider. But while the Wannabe hitmaker and fashion designer is keen for a reconciliation, it might prove difficult given the recent social media activity of other relatives. Last week, Brooklyn's younger brother, Cruz, appeared to make a dig when someone wrote in the comments of a music TikTok he posted: 'Are you going to stick with this job or going to become a race car driver next or something?' Firing back and appearing to take aim at his brother's ever-changing career, he wrote: 'Wrong brother mate'. More Trending And that's not all, as Romeo has also hit out after his ex-girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, publicly denied ever dating Brooklyn, as rumours have suggested. Following her statement, on his Story, Romeo shared a quote from 1953 film Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn's character saying: 'What the world needs is a return to sweetness and decency.' Underneath, he wrote: 'Be nice to people and don't spread unnecessary lies,' followed by a seemingly sarcastic kissing emoji. It was previously claimed that the new relationship between Romeo and Kim, which lasted seven months—was the catalyst for Brooklyn's feud with his family. Got a story? Bake Off legend insists she 'won't be grateful' after TV show axed by BBC
Great British Bake Off icon Nadiya Hussain has spoken out following the response to her BBC show getting cancelled. Earlier this month, the 40-year-old star shared that the broadcaster would not be commissioning another cookery show with her, despite a 10-year working relationship. At the time, the GBBO series 6 winner thanked her supporters for 'being on this journey with [her]' and admitted that being dropped by the Beeb made her reassess 'where [she] wants to be'. Nadiya also vowed to go on working 'with people who believe in the voices of people like [her]', teasing more 'exciting' projects in the pipeline. The BBC, which housed Bake Off when Nadiya took part, later issued a statement, confirming: 'After several wonderful series, we have made the difficult decision not to commission another cookery show with Nadiya Hussain at the moment.' Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. And while the BBC is open to collaborating with her again in the future, Nadiya has now issued some fresh thoughts on how people have reacted to the news. Taking to her Instagram page tonight, the chef began in a lengthy video: 'I have received tons of messages since talking about my situation with the BBC, messages from people telling me to be grateful for the opportunity and be thankful for how far I've come. 'Now, my whole life, as a child in an immigrant household, I used to think I had to be grateful all the time because I watched my family, always grateful. Grateful for being let in, grateful for having work, even if underpaid, grateful for safety, even if it meant silence. 'Always grateful, even when I feel tired, lonely, or disrespected.' 'At first, gratitude felt right because it was instilled in me from a young age; it was all I saw,' she reflected. 'But after a while, it starts to get really heavy. Gratitude became something that I was expected to wear like a uniform. Anytime I voiced frustration or sadness or wanted more, I could feel the invisible pressure. 'Like, how dare you complain? Aren't you lucky just to be here? But here's what I've come to understand.' Nadiya went on to say firmly: 'I am allowed to feel more than just thankful. I am a human being, and I am allowed to feel angry when I'm treated unfairly. I'm allowed to want better for myself and for my family. I'm allowed to speak up. I'm allowed to exist fully. Complex, emotional, hopeful, sometimes critical, just like anyone else. 'So, gratitude has its place, but it shouldn't be a muzzle, like a dog. We didn't come here just to survive; we came here to live, to grow, to contribute, to belong, not as a guest, but as a person who has rights and dreams and dignity, just like everyone else.' The baker ended on a poignant, empowering note: 'So no, I won't always be grateful, and that doesn't make me ungrateful; it makes me human. That's what it does. 'So, I've got here through hard work, through determination, through talent, so no, I won't be grateful. I got here because I'm good at what I do. Just something to think about.' The comments section was soon flooded with messages of support, as the likes of TV presenter Fearne Cotton left a string of red hearts. Singer Annie Lennox wrote: 'One HUNDRED per cent!!!!!Thank you for sharing your lived experience and perspective!!! Gratitude should never become a silencing muzzle – as you SO rightly say!' 'So true. Thanks so much speaking up [sic]', commented Rahul Mandal, who won Bake Off in 2018. 'Exactly this! Well said', praised TV doctor Amir Khan. More Trending Since triumphing in the Bake Off tent 10 years ago, Nadiya has fronted several shows for the BBC. These have included Nadiya Bakes, Nadiya's Fast Flavours, and Nadiya's Simple Spices. While a new series has not been green-lit, bosses have assured fans that Nadiya remains 'a much-valued part of the BBC family'. Meanwhile, in her previous announcement video addressing the axe, Nadiya said that she is now focused on 'being [her] most authentic self' and working with those who 'believe in [her] talent'.
