Beyoncé, Tyler Perry and the Royal Family fail to publicly send Meghan Markle happy 44th birthday wishes - as Oprah is among the stars who were absent from her celebrations
The lack of well wishes from celebrities including Beyoncé and Tyler Perry marked a contrast to previous years.
Meghan last received a public message from the official Royal Family social media account 2021, when she turned 40 - the year after she and Prince Harry, 40, stepped down from royal duties and moved to California.
In response to queries about why the Duchess of Sussex's birthday has not been publicly recognised, royal aides have said they only mark the birthdays of working members of the Royal Family on their official social media accounts - but this differed from what members of The Firm have done previously.
When Meghan turned 41 in 2022, she received messages from a number of royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The then-Prince Charles and his wife Camilla also took to social media, wishing Meghan a happy birthday on X (then Twitter).
However, when she celebrated turning 42-years-old in 2023, the royals were all silent.
Speaking at the time, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Newsweek: 'When Meghan turned 40 Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall and the Cambridges [William and Kate] sent birthday wishes.
'When she turned 41, the queen did not, but the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and William and Catherine did. This year they ignored her birthday which has been represented in the press as a snub.'
He added that the release of Harry memoirs Spare in January that year, in addition to their 2021 interview with Oprah, had been 'extremely damaging' to relations between the Sussexes and The Firm.
And the royals weren't the only high profile people who remained silent on social media.
When Meghan tuned 40 in 2021, she received sweet public greetings from Beyoncé.
A message shared on the singer's website said: 'Happy Birthday Meghan Markle'.
It was accompanied by a childhood photo of Meghan, who sported a pink headline with a flower detail, and a button-up blue frock with puff sleeves.
US-based columnist told the Express that the lack of birthday wishes from royals was not a snub, rather 'an understandable dodge of [Meghan's] drama'.
'From the Oprah interview's racism allegations to the mock curtsy that spat on the late Queen's legacy.
'Why on earth would they send birthday wishes to a poisonous troublemaker who haunted the last days of their late matriarch and her beloved husband?'
A number of reports have also noted how the Duchess had a very 'low key' celebration for her birthday, having a small, private meal, with celebrity friends including Oprah, Serena Williams and Tyler Perry absent from the event.
According to journalist Rob Shuter, a Hollywood insider said that while 'Oprah helped launch Meghan and Harry's entire media brand [...] that connection has gone quiet'.
Another A-lister who failed to wish Meghan a happy 44th birthday was Tyler Perry.
When Meghan turned 41-years-old in 2022, the entertainment mogul shared a gushing post on Instagram.
It said: 'I've had a front row seat in your life for the past few years. I've watched you endure things that would have broken a lot of people. I'm so incredibly proud to see how happy you, your husband, and your kids are now. It fills me with joy to say Happy Birthday Princess Meghan.'
The Sussexes quit their roles as senior working members of the Royal Family in January 2020, before moving to the US in June of that year, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Following their departure, Harry and Meghan gave an explosive interview to Oprah about their experiences of being royals in 2021.
The couple's bombshell interview sent shock waves around the world as the couple laid bare the extent of their rift with the Queen and other senior royals.
They then signed a deal with Netflix and released their docuseries named Harry & Meghan in December 2022, before the Prince released his controversial tell-all autobiography Spare, published in January last year.
In the book he claimed he begged his father not to marry Camilla due to fears she would be a 'wicked stepmother'.
Harry also alleged that his brother, Prince William 'knocked me to the floor' in 2019 during an argument about his marriage to Meghan.
However, while Meghan did not receive greetings from some of her acquaintances, her birthday was publicly marked by a number of her famous friends.
Close pals including Meghan's costar in the legal drama Abigail Spencer, Kelly McKee Zajfen, Tracy Robbins, Jamie Kern Lima all took to Instagram to share gushing compliments, calling the Duchess 'pure magic' and describing her as 'like sunshine in a bottle'.
And in a rare move from the Duchess, she commented on their posts in a mutual display of affection.
Meghan's long-time pal Abigail was the first to share a tribute to the Duchess, calling her 'Champagne in human form' and a 'sister in this life and beyond'.
As Abigail was also celebrating her birthday yesterday, Meghan fired back: 'Thank you, sweet Abs! Right back at you, and happy birthday to YOU! 44/4' - her comment referring to them both turning 44 on the fourth day of the month.
Kelly McKee Zajfen, a former model and co-founder of Alliance of Moms, has been friends with Meghan for many years after first meeting with the Duchess's ex-husband, Trevor Engelson.
Kelly wrote: 'Happy Birthday to you sweet M!!
'You're pure magic!! A force of fun, light, and so much love. Thank you for being the kind of friend who makes everything better (and way more fun). Here's to the best trip around the ☀️ yet!
'(This captures us perfectly! ✨✨) Love you so very much!'
Meghan replied: 'Thank you!', adding heart, cake and champagne emojis.
The Duchess also featured in several new photos shared by her close pal Tracy Robbins, who lives in Montecito and is married to Paramount boss Brian Robbins - with the couple occasionally going on double dates with Meghan and Prince Harry.
Tracy showed a very light-hearted and laidback side to Meghan, as they were seen giggling while enjoying cocktails together.
In one candid snap, Meghan couldn't contain her laughter as some of the foam from her cocktail landed on her nose.
'Happy birthday my dear @meghan Oh how I can laugh and dance with you like no other. You are sunshine in a bottle!' Tracy gushed.
'Thank you for always making time to be such a loving and connected friend no matter what's going on in your life. You dance through this life with so much grace, light and love!'
Referring to her husband Prince Harry, and children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, she added: 'I hope your wee posse of 3 are smothering you with hugs and kisses today my dear! Happiest of birthdays M!'
Keeping it simple, Meghan commented a selection of pink and red heart emojis.
Tracy also shared a photo of Meghan and her husband Brian backstage at Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour - which they attended together in May at the SoFi stadium in California. She added: 'Happy birthday M! Brian and I adore you!'
Also among the well wishers was Jamie Kern Lima, who hosted Meghan on her podcast - The Jamie Kern Lima Show - earlier this year.
A post she shared on her story said: 'Happy Birthday @meghan thank you for being love, light and such a great friend to everyone who has the gift of truly knowing you!!!'
Seconds later, she shared another image, holding a rainbow fruit platter they had made behind the scenes of the podcast: 'Happy Birthday @meghan Wonder had so much fun making this for you! Can't wait to see what we learn on Season 2 of your show! Thank you for being love, light and such a generous friend to everyone you meet!'
And Meghan's make-up artist pal Daniel Martin, who helped get the Duchess ready for her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, shared a sweet snap of Meghan and her beagle Mia in the garden of her Montecito mansion, simply writing 'HBD sis!'
Rounding off the tributes was actress Kerry Washington, who has been friends with Meghan since 2013, and said: 'To this beautiful (inside and out) @meghan Love you so much!'
In addition, Meghan's As Ever brand has posted a gushing birthday tribute as she turned 44. Her lifestyle company took to Instagram with a black and white snapshot of the mother-of-two wearing a sundress and hat as she beamed into the distance.
The caption enthused about Meghan and her role leading the company.
'Celebrating the woman behind it all,' it read. 'She pours her heart, vision and magic touch into every detail, and today, we raise a glass to her! Happy birthday to our founder.'
It was then re-shared on As Ever's Instagram Story alongside two champagne flutes clinking together in celebration.

Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski is left speechless as he discovers ultra-rare Pokemon card in clubhouse
The Milwaukee Brewers are red hot at the moment. They couldn't be hotter, not even if someone used 'Fire Spin' on them. Seven-straight wins have vaulted the NL Central club to the top of the division as the first team to hit 70 victories this season. One of the brightest stars on this team is rookie Jacob Misiorowski - already an All-Star and helping to buoy the Brew Crew to the playoffs. That included his victory on Friday night against the slumping powerhouse New York Mets who - despite their star-packed lineup - have begun to falter, losing 3-2 to Milwaukee. In celebration of that win, Misiorowski was seen in the clubhouse opening a pack of Pokemon cards at American Family Field. As the pitcher leafed through the pack, his excitement jumped when he saw a slight glimpse of a red card - associated with 'fire type' monsters. Misiorowski celebrated his luck, as he now possessed one of the rarest cards in the game Misiorowski unveiled the card below - a holographic Charizard, one of the rarest in the world. The clubhouse exploded in cheers with one teammate screaming out, 'Holy s***' in excitement. A holographic Charizard can sell for thousands upon thousands of dollars. One card, a 1999 1st edition card graded a 10, sold for $180,000 at auction at Sotheby's last September. The Brewers are just as powerful - on a seven-game winning streak, the longest active streak in baseball. After this weekend's series against the Mets, the Brewers will stay at home for a three-game series against Pittsburgh. They then hit the road for eight games: three against the Cincinnati Reds and five (with one doubleheader) against the Chicago Cubs.

One Tree Hill star shares chilling near-death experience that resulted in him losing HALF of his blood
One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray shared a harrowing story about a near-death experience when he was a teenager. The actor, now 43, said that back when he was 15 years old, he lost half of the blood in his body and was 'on [his] deathbed.' On Friday's episode of the Great Company podcast, he told host Jamie Laing that he was in the hospital for over two months. At the time, he said his intestines got 'all twisted up' and he was suffering from internal bleeding. He said he didn't remember much from that experience as he was going in and out of consciousness and was undergoing emergency surgery. This comes after Murray opened up about his mental health and revealed he was battling agoraphobia amid his One Tree Hill success when he was in his early 20s. And at one point during his near-death, teenage experience, the Freakier Friday star said that he saw his father talking to a priest about last rites at one point before his nurse gave him a blood transfusion to save his life. He added that during those weeks in the hospital, his weight had dropped from 180 to a 118 pounds. Murray is known for playing the lead role of Lucas Scott in the CW teen drama series from 2003 to 2009 and again reprising his role in 2012. He also starred opposite Lindsay Lohan in Freaky Friday in 2003 and in the recently released sequel Freakier Friday. He is also known for playing the love interest of Hilary Duff's character in the 2004 romantic comedy A Cinderella Story. The actor is also known for making appearances on Gilmore Girls, Dawson's Creek and Riverdale.

Finneas and Ashe: ‘I said thanks for coming to Taylor Swift. At her own birthday party'
Your duo name is The Favors. What is the biggest favour someone has done for you? Ashe: I had someone take my car all the way from LA to San Jose. Which is like, a five-and-a-half-hour drive – and then they had to take a flight home. Finneas: When I was 18, I had a crappy little car, and someone rented me an electric car for my birthday. I drove it up into the mountains, and it stopped. Because it was an electric car, it didn't have a real key, and the key fob disconnected. I was stranded with my girlfriend at the time. My dad had to drive up to the mountains to rescue us. What are you secretly really good at? Finneas: Impressions. And I'm not doing one for you. The one I do the most is probably Benny Blanco. If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you choose? Ashe: The Real Housewives of … probably Orange County, but if I had my pick: Salt Lake City. I don't think I'm chaotic enough for those ladies, but Orange County I could manage. Finneas: Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with Ty Pennington. I loved Ty Pennington growing up. Ashe: Who was that 'move that bus' guy? Finneas: Ty Pennington. Ashe: We should do a music video – Finneas: – of Extreme Makeover? We start by just demolishing a house that's really good, and then we have to build a shitty house. Sign up for the fun stuff with our rundown of must-reads, pop culture and tips for the weekend, every Saturday morning What do you do when you can't get to sleep? Ashe: Watch the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Finneas: I watch Family Guy. I find Family Guy very meditative. I'm comforted by it. If I'm watching a thriller or something, I'm gonna stay awake and pay attention. Family Guy is like, they're gonna be fine. What film or book do you always return to and why? Finneas: Harry Potter. I've read the series many times. Ashe: Good Will Hunting. It's sweet. Finneas: You know they're gonna be OK. Ashe: I've been watching a lot of scary movies though recently, and I'm getting so desensitised that now I'm falling asleep to them. Finneas: Jesus Christ. What have you been watching? Ashe: The entire Conjuring series, because then there's The Nun, and The Nun 2, and Annabelle. [My fiance] John is watching the movie through the reflection of the painting next to our bed because he's too afraid. Finneas: I'd be big spoon for John but I would not be able to watch. When you go to a hotel, what's the first thing you do? Ashe: Disinfect everything. I'm neurotic. I take my little antibacterial wipes, wipe down the handles and put the do not disturb sign on. Finneas: First thing I turn off whatever weird autoplay loop the TV is playing. I hate that! Ashe: You're always in fancier hotels! Finneas: Even now in shitty ones, they have it everywhere. If I don't do that and I get all my bags and maybe I go take a shower, then I come out and realise I've been hearing the same loop for two hours. That shit drives me insane. Like a lot of yellow cabs in New York, they always have the TV playing. I always turn the sound off, and I've had many cab drivers be like, 'I'm glad you did that.' What's the strangest job you've ever had? Finneas: Growing up in LA, they have you do a thing that as a kid, you're like, 'sweet' – and then as an adult, you're like, 'that was child labour'. It's called market research. They're like, do you want to watch a show or play a game and then talk to a panel of adults who are working on the thing for many hours in exchange for literally $15? Like, a crazy low number for a day's amount of work! You're probably eight. You're very young. And you get a dial that you turn as you watch the show for like, 'I'm enjoying it' or 'I'm not enjoying it'. Ashe: We should do one of those now. Did any of the shows make it to air? Sign up to Saved for Later Catch up on the fun stuff with Guardian Australia's culture and lifestyle rundown of pop culture, trends and tips after newsletter promotion Finneas: I mean, it wasn't – Ashe: Family Guy. Finneas: I did it for the Tony Hawk video game one time, and I was like: yes, I love Tony Hawk! But also, it's not done? You're playing, then you get into an area and it's all white. They're like, 'oh, we haven't build this area'. Well, that's lame! Come back to me when it's done! What's the best piece of advice you've ever received? Finneas: A guy who's a mastering engineer once said to me, 'Listen man, if something ever goes wrong, you just rock out.' Just rock out, man. I sometimes think, damn, I really am doing that. I had a show recently where shit was going wrong, and I was like: time to rock out, dude. What's my alternative here? Oh, my flight's delayed four hours? Let's rock out, dude. Ashe: That's my new favourite advice. My mum was always like, just remember there's no ceiling to what you can accomplish. I don't know if that's always common with parents. [Most are] like, don't dream too big or you might fail, you're gonna disappoint yourself. But she was very 'go for it, babe'. What's been your most cringeworthy run-in with a celebrity? Ashe: Finneas took me to a really fun Halloween party once, and I'd had a few drinks. I was dressed as Marie Antoinette, with blood on my neck. Finneas: Her hair was amazing. It was real up. Ashe: I saw Margot Robbie out of the corner of my eye, and I was liquid … stoked. Finneas: Liquid brave. Ashe: And I went up to her and I said, 'Hey, you know what sometimes happens? People say we look alike.' It's criminal to say that out loud to the person! She obviously is the coolest person ever, so she was like, we should start a band. What a sweetheart for making me not feel miserable in that moment. Finneas: I watched Ashe go do it, being like, oh my god oh my god oh my god. Ashe: Then I walked over to Finneas like, 'Do you want to meet Margot Robbie?' Finneas: I'm trying to think of something cringey for me … I said thanks for coming to Taylor Swift. At her birthday party. She said, 'Thank you so much for coming' and I said, 'Thank you for coming!' We have to end on a really serious question. What is the ideal length of men's shorts? Ashe: [Stands up and gestures at her knees.] Finneas: Oh, low. That's the San Jose in you, dude, that's like a Billabong. Ashe: No! I'll pull it up. [The invisible shorts are now at mid-thigh.] Finneas: I will answer with another question: what kind of material are we working with inside the short? Is it a bathing suit? Is there a mesh? Is there something inside to keep it safe? OK, let me rephrase. What is the ideal length and material of men's shorts? Finneas: Linen's nice, but yeah – it depends on what kind of boxers I have on under there. There's a length that's unsafe. Ashe: Too short is obnoxious. It's not really LA for dudes to wear shorts. Finneas: I don't feel good in shorts. The Favors' debut album The Dream is out 19 September via Darkroom Records
