UP to verify beneficiaries of pension scheme for destitute women to remove ineligible enrollees
Lucknow, The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday said it will verify the beneficiaries of the pension scheme for destitute women with the aim to remove dead and ineligible people from its list.
Principal secretary of department of women's welfare, Leena Johri, has issued orders to all divisional commissioners and district magistrates to complete the verification of beneficiaries of Nirashrit Mahila Pension Yojana by May 25, a statement said.
Under the scheme, women who are over 18 years of age and are permanent residents of UP, whose husbands have passed away, and whose family's annual income is not more than ₹2 lakh are eligible for a pension amount of ₹1,000 per month.
The entire process will be carried out under the supervision of the district magistrate.
Currently, around 34 lakh women have been enrolled under the scheme, the government said.
Aadhaar authentication has been made mandatory for all women receiving benefits under the scheme. The objective of this exercise is to ensure that only genuinely eligible women receive the benefits of the pension programme.
Eligible beneficiaries will be regularly informed about their payment status through SMS notifications, the statement said.
The pension amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. Under the scheme, in the year 2016-17, a pension of ₹500 per month was given to each beneficiary. From 2021-22 onwards, the pension amount was increased to ₹1000 per month.
From the current financial year, Aadhaar-based payment has been started for beneficiaries, the statement said.

Man Succumbs to Injuries Day After Hit-and-Run at Chinchbhuvan
Nagpur: A 29-year-old man from Gittikhadan, Yogesh Bopase, died on Sunday morning, a day after getting seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident near Chinchbhuvan. The accident occurred around 4am on Saturday, when Bopase and a friend were returning from AIIMS hospital after delivering food to a relative admitted there. Police sources said they had left AIIMS at around 3am and were riding back home on a two-wheeler when a speeding car rammed into them from behind near the Chinchbhuvan junction. Bopase, who was wearing a small helmet at the time, sustained severe injuries in the impact and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to injuries a day later. The luxury car involved in the crash is reportedly registered to a Mumbai-based owner. Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was handed over to a third party for sale and may have been with a prospective buyer at the time of the incident. Police are still verifying the identity of the person who was driving the car during the accident. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without offering help to the injured, prompting the police to register a case of hit-and-run. Officials are scanning CCTV footage from nearby locations and tracing the vehicle's movements to identify the driver. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "We are in touch with the registered owner of the car, and we are working to confirm who was driving the car at the time of the accident. We have also spoken to the friend who was riding pillion and other eyewitnesses, including nearby labourers," said a police officer involved in the investigation. The Chinchbhuvan stretch has been flagged repeatedly by residents and traffic authorities as accident-prone due to inadequate lighting and poor enforcement of speed limits.

Eyewitnesses linked one suspect, Kushwaha, to the funeral. Sonam's father disputes claims against Kushwaha, while locals demand a CBI inquiry. Indore: One of the persons arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of Indore-based Raja Raghuvanshi in Meghalaya had taken people to the latter's funeral here, an eyewitness said on Monday. The murder took a sensational turn when Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam was held by Meghalaya police along with her three alleged aides Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21). "When Raja's body arrived here, Sonam's family, whose home is in Govind Nagar Kharcha area, had arranged four -five vehicles for people to attend the funeral. Kushwaha was driving the four-wheeler in which I went, though we did not talk. Only after seeing his photograph in the media post his arrest, I recollected this episode," said Lakshman Singh Rathore. Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills district on June 2, ten days after the couple went missing. Raja and Sonam, who got married on May 11 in Indore, went to Meghalaya on their honeymoon. The husband and wife disappeared on May 23, hours after they checked out of a homestay at Nongriat village, 20 km from where his body was found. "The first person arrested was Rajput from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh. The second was Chauhan from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The third was Kushwaha, also from Indore," East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said at a press conference in Shillong on Monday. Outside Raja Raghuvanshi's house in Sahakar Nagar, Indore, locals burnt Sonam's photo and expressed anger over the murder.
