AGRA: An SC/ST court in Aligarh sentenced two brothers, Virendra Singh and Hoshiyar Singh, both in their early 50s, to life imprisonment for murdering 26-year-old Dalit man Manoj Jatav over a Rs 70 dispute in 2020.
The judgement, delivered on Friday, was made available on Saturday. Prosecution officer Chaman Prakash Sharma said that on June 5, 2020, Manoj and his cousin had gone to a shop in Sarkoriya village, where the shopkeeper demanded Rs 70 that Manoj owed, leading to an argument. Later, the brothers and four others allegedly attacked Manoj's house, killing him and injuring his uncle, Arun.
Police booked all six accused under IPC sections for murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, attempt to murder, insulting the modesty of a woman, and criminal conspiracy, along with the Arms Act and SC/ST Act.
Five were granted bail months later, but Virendra remained in custody.
After the trial, four co-accused were acquitted for lack of evidence, while Virendra and Hoshiyar were convicted and fined Rs 55,000 each. They were taken into custody after the verdict.
"The case was being heard in the SC/ST court. After examining all evidence and witnesses, the court on Friday acquitted the four co-accused but convicted Virendra and Hoshiyar, imposing life terms and a fine of Rs 55,000 each. As the court pronounced its judgement, both convicts were taken into police custody and sent to jail," prosecution officer Sharma said.

‘Teeth Plucked, Hit With Rods': UP Couple Calls Man Home, Kills Him With Pliers

Last Updated: A couple in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal allegedly killed 45-year-old Anish using tools like a screwdriver and pliers. In a horrific incident, a couple allegedly assaulted a 45-year-old man using tools like a screwdriver and a pair of pliers, and then killed him in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal. The police have detained the couple and are interrogating them, NDTV reported, The incident took place on Saturday when the accused couple called the victim, identified as 45-year-old Anish, to their home and beat him brutally. They pulled out his teeth with pliers and hit him repeatedly with iron rods. While the victim's family said he was murdered over a Rs 7 lakh loan, police have speculated an extramarital affair as the reason behind the horrific crime. According to Anish's father, Mustakim, the victim's wedding was finalised, and he had gone to his neighbour's home (the accused couple's home) to ask for the Rs 7 lakh he had lent them years back. 'They killed my son so brutally that I cannot even describe it," he told the news outlet. Around 2 am on Saturday, Anish's elder brother got the information about his younger brother's assault. An injured Anish, who somehow managed to escape from the couple's house, was found lying in a pool of blood in his home's drawing room. He was taken to the community health center, where he succumbed to the injuries. Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Srivastava said police got information about Anish's death late last night. 'We are registering a murder case and further action will be taken." Srivastava said the investigation had revealed that Anish's neighbour Raees Ahmed and his wife Sitara had murdered him. 'During questioning, we found that the victim, Anish, was in a relationship with Sitara. Raees and Sitara plotted Anish's murder, invited him over and then killed him," he said as quoted by the news outlet. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
