After Munir's Nuclear Threats, Pakistan Begs India To Release Water, Restore Indus Water Treaty
Pakistan has gone from issuing nuclear threats to pleading with India for water. Days after its Army Chief Asim Munir warned of nuclear war and Bilawal Bhutto issued a war cry over rivers, Islamabad has urged New Delhi to resume the Indus Water Treaty—suspended by India after the Pahalgam terror attack. Pakistan's Foreign Office 'welcomed' a Court of Arbitration interpretation, claiming it supports Pakistan's rights over the Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab. But India refuses to recognise the Court's proceedings, standing firm on punitive measures against Pakistan for its alleged terror support. Under the 1960 World Bank-brokered pact, each nation controls specific rivers, but the latest developments have escalated the water-war rhetoric. The contradiction between Pakistan's nuclear chest-thumping and water pleas exposes the deep strategic tensions shaping South Asia's future.#pakistan #india #induswatertreaty #asimmunir #bilawalbhutto #nuclearthreat #watercrisis #indus #geopolitics #breakingnews #trending #trendingnow #toi #bharat #toibharat #indianews

'Ultimate flex': 'Self-awarded medal' by Pakistan army chief stuns people; netizens troll Asim Munir

In a move that has drawn widespread ridicule, Pakistan army chief gen Asim Munir reportedly awarded himself the Hilal-e-Jurat, the country's second-highest military honour, following the Pakistan army's crushing defeat during Operation Sindoor . The awards were part of Pakistan's Independence Day honours on Thursday, conferred by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Dozens of military and civilian officials received accolades for their roles in the four-day conflict with India. Among others, air chief Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu also received the Hilal-e-Jurat, naval chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, and several fighter pilots the Sitara-e-Jurat. Civilian leaders, including Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, defence minister Khawaja Asif, and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, were also honoured. Munir's self-award sparks social media frenzy The revelation of Munir's self-conferred medal has triggered a torrent of memes, jokes, and criticism online. Social media users questioned the Army Chief's credibility, mocked the military's performance, and unleashed sharp humor. One of the user said, 'Wow, Asim Munir's self-awarded Hilal-e-Jurat is the ultimate flex! Who needs validation from others when you can just give it to yourself?' 'Not sure what's more impressive, the fact he awarded himself or that he found a mirror in the midst of a losing battle,' another user quipped. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Rates Undo While another internet user said, 'Asim Munir's Hilal-e-Jurat is like a participation trophy for showing up to the war and losing spectacularly!' Hezbollah vows to keep arms, says Lebanon's disarmament plan serves Israel

The leader of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group on Friday (August 15, 2025) vowed not to disarm, saying last week's decision by the national government to remove the Iran-backed group's weapons by the end of the year serves Israel's interests. Naim Kassem said the government's decision to remove 'the defensive weapons of the resistance, its people and Lebanon during an aggression' facilitates the killing of 'resistance fighters and their families and evict them from their land and homes.' He said the government should have instead 'spread its authority and evicted Israel from Lebanon.' Speaking in a televised speech to mark a Shiite religious event, he added 'the government is serving the Israeli project.' Kassem added if the ongoing crisis leads to an internal conflict, the government is to blame. He noted that Hezbollah and its Shiite ally, the Amal movement, did not ask their supporters to protest in the streets to give way for more discussions. The Amal movement was one of the main armed groups in Lebanon's 1975-1990 civil war and is now a powerful political party led by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. But, he said if a decision is taken to protest in the streets, protesters 'will be all over Lebanon and head to the U.S. embassy.' He did not elaborate. Hezbollah's weapons have been a major dividing point in Lebanon with some groups that are opposed to Hezbollah saying only the state should be allowed to have arms. The Lebanese government voted last week for a U.S.-backed plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year and implement a ceasefire with Israel. The small Mediterranean country has been under international pressure to get Hezbollah to lay down its arms since the 14-month war with Israel that ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in November. However, the Hezbollah leader said his group will only discuss a national defence strategy over its weapons once Israel withdraws from Lebanon and stops its almost daily airstrikes that have killed scores of Hezbollah members since the war's end. 'The resistance will not hand over its weapons as the aggression continues and occupation remains,' Kassem said, adding that the group will fight a long battle if needed. The Israel-Hezbollah war weakened the Iran-backed group and left much of its military and political leadership dead. The war killed more than 4,000 people in Lebanon, displaced over 1 million and caused destruction that the World Bank said will cost $11 billion in reconstruction. After the war ended, Israeli forces stayed in five overlooking locations inside Lebanon. Israel has accused Hezbollah of trying to rebuild its military capabilities. Israel's military has said the five locations in Lebanon provide vantage points or are located across from communities in northern Israel, where about 60,000 Israelis were displaced during the war.
