Six nabbed for illegal cockfighting in Meradong
BINTANGOR (July 11): Six men were arrested yesterday for allegedly being involved in illegal cockfighting gambling activities in Meradong.
Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the arrests were made following a raid by a team from the Meradong District Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division.
'During the operation, police raided an open area along Jalan Tanjung Manis/Sibu, which was believed to be used as a venue for cockfighting gambling.
'As a result of the raid, six men were apprehended and several items related to the activity were seized,' he said in a statement today.
Among the seized items were live and dead roosters, a weighing scale, and a whiteboard used to record the cockfighting sessions.
Tansli said the suspects and seized items were taken to the Bintangor Police Station for further action.
The case is being investigated under Section 73(1)(g) of the Public Health (Veterinary) Ordinance 1999, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000, or imprisonment of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. Boy, 4, dies after fall from 8th floor flat
KUALA LUMPUR: A 4-year-old boy who fell from the 8th floor of the Sri Perantau Flats in Port Klang this morning has died from injuries sustained in the fall. Former director, company fined RM15,000 for unpaid service tax in Melaka
MELAKA: A former director and his company were fined RM15,000 by the Ayer Keroh Sessions Court for failing to pay service tax and penalties amounting to RM139,755.25 between 2021 and 2023. Judge Haderiah Siri imposed the sentence after Ng Wen Hua, 31, and Go Lounge Sdn Bhd pleaded guilty to five charges. She also ordered a one-month jail term in default for each charge if they fail to settle the fine. According to the charges, Ng and the company failed to pay service tax within the stipulated period under Section 26(4) of the Service Tax Act 2018. The unpaid taxes ranged from RM19,000 to RM30,000, with penalties between RM3,000 and RM12,000. The offences occurred at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Wisma Kastam Negeri, Ayer Keroh, on multiple dates in 2022 and 2023. The charges were brought under Section 26(8) of the Service Tax Act 2018, read with Section 78(1)(a), which carries a maximum penalty of RM50,000, three years' imprisonment, or both.
