Carnival just canceled another five cruises—here's what vacationers need to know
Carnival Cruise Line has cancelled another five sailings from its upcoming cruise schedule, citing changes to its dry dock maintenance calendar. The cancellations affect sailings on the Carnival Breeze departing January 11, March 5, March 13, March 18 and March 22, 2027, all of which were set to sail from Galveston, Texas, to the Western Caribbean. The cancellations follow a recent last-minute scrapping of a 2026 Carnival Liberty voyage due to a shipyard strike in Cadiz, Spain. Dry dock periods are the cruise industry's equivalent of a pit stop—it's the time when ships get spruced up, inspected and sometimes overhauled. Carnival says the Breeze is due for a turn in the shipyard, and with a packed maintenance schedule across the fleet, some voyages had to give. Affected passengers and their travel agents were notified weeks ago. Carnival is stepping up, however, by helping passengers book a comparable sailing at the same rate, offering onboard credit for rebooked trips or a full refund for those who choose to call the whole thing off. While cancellations aren't everyday events, they're not entirely unheard of. Maintenance needs, redeployments and charters can all derail cruise calendars. In fact, Carnival is not the only cruise line to drop sudden cancellations. MSC Cruises recently cancelled five months of sailings on the MSC Meraviglia, and Norwegian Cruise Line cut over four months of sailings on two ships this summer. If you had your sights set on a 2027 getaway on the Carnival Breeze, you'll need to pick different dates, or a different ship. On the plus side, the extra time in dry dock should mean your next round of on-board margaritas could come with fresher paint, shinier decks and maybe even a few new perks.

This major cruise line canceled 5 cruises: See the impacted sailing dates
Carnival Cruise Line canceled five cruises aboard its Carnival Breeze ship. 'As we manage a busy dry dock schedule, we must sometimes adjust our sailing schedule to accommodate planned maintenance,' the cruise line told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. 'Affected guests and their travel advisors were informed of this change several weeks ago and we assisted in finding other sailing options. We appreciate their understanding.' Five sailings were impacted in total. Those include a cruise departing on Jan. 11, 2027, and four back-to-back sailings between March 5 and March 22, 2027. The ship will be sailing from Galveston, Texas, in early 2027, according to CruiseMapper. Cruise cancellations are relatively rare, but can happen for various reasons, including when a ship needs to go into dry dock or is booked for a full-ship charter, among others. MSC Cruises confirmed earlier this month that it had scrapped around five months of cruises on its MSC Meraviglia ship, which will spend its winter 2026-2027 season in Miami instead of New York. Norwegian Cruise Line also canceled over four months of cruises on two ships in July, citing 'a fleet redeployment.'

MSC Cruises canceled around five months of cruises. The cruise line scrapped planned sailings between Nov. 8, 2026, and April 11, 2027, on its MSC Meraviglia ship, and the vessel will spend its winter 2026-2027 season in Miami rather than New York. 'In response to the demand we are seeing, this will mark the first season with four ships homeporting in Miami, as MSC Meraviglia joins MSC World America, MSC Poesia, and MSC Seaside,' the cruise line told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. 'All four ships will sail from our new, state-of-the-art MSC Cruise Terminal at PortMiami, offering an exciting mix of newly introduced sailings and guest-favorite itineraries to the Caribbean and The Bahamas.' The ship will sail six-and-eight-night cruises with stops in Turks and Caicos, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and more, the company said. Impacted guests were given multiple options, including rebooking on one of Meraviglia's new cruises from Miami – or any seven-night sailing from Miami, Port Canaveral or Galveston, Texas – or opting for a future cruise credit or refund. Cruise cancellations are relatively uncommon but can happen for various reasons, including full-ship charters or when a ship needs to go into dry dock. Norwegian Cruise Line also scrapped more than four months of cruises on two ships due to fleet redeployment in July.
