Nathan Collins shares new waters he's ‘never experienced' before as an Ireland player after bore Luxembourg draw
The Boys in Green made it four games unbeaten in 2025 yet were unimpressive for the most part
And Collins acknowledged that Ireland performed well below their own expectations.
The captain said: 'Before the game, we didn't want it to be that last game, end-of-season friendly feel to it. We wanted to be not as passive and wanted to get after them more but we weren't at that.'
Collins, an ever-present for Brentford in the Premier League, added: 'It's been a long season, I've been trying to push myself to the limit.
"I'm physically tired, but I'm more mentally tired. I doubt I'm the only one in that boat.

'We've pushed ourselves to the max this season, away to Luxembourg, it's not an easy game.
'They played a really good game, they are very good, they pressed high and that probably hurt us as well.
'I know the passiveness was there but we still made them force things, we still defended in a nice solid way and made them go around us.
'Considering how we're nowhere near our best, we still dug out a clean sheet. But we all know that was nowhere near our best and we have so much more to give.'

Collins hailed team-mates
He said: 'We're lucky that it still carries momentum. The way we played we could have lost that. We didn't deserve to win but to sit in and defend the way we did, we didn't deserve to lose.

'Credit to Max O'Leary, he's been in the camp a long time and not got his caps but made two great saves.
"Doc got a tackle in and Knighty was class in front. We weren't at our best but defended well, dug in and had our chances.'
For Collins, that bodes well for the World Cup qualifiers in September when Ireland kick off against Hungary.
He said: 'When we come back in in September we build on that. We have great momentum and we haven't lost in a few games.

'We know there is more things to work on and get better. Going in unbeaten in four into a qualifier, I've never experienced that.
'I can't wait for it. Fans will be at it. The bond we've created with the fans is great, I'm looking forward to be back in the Aviva, hunger straight off the bat, a massive game.'

He added: 'That's the whole point of this, you want players to come in, you want players under pressure for the next person. It's a great thing that pushes the next player.'
On those absent, he added: 'It's going to be hard for them to get back in. We know we have a good squad.'

For all the chopping and changing at Stamford Bridge, Terry — who mentors players in the academy — can see a bright future after a summer of success. Eight months ago, boss Enzo Maresca was shooting down suggestions of a title challenge. Six months ago, the fans were chanting angrily towards their manager that they wanted 'their Chelsea back'. Since then, Todd Boehly's Blues have claimed a Champions League place, won the Conference League and the Club World Cup. Advertisement READ MORE ON FOOTBALL FEUD OVER? The Chelsea legend, 44, told SunSport: 'I really liked the honesty from the manager because the message is clear to the players. We're not there yet. 'If you're the manager now coming into that dressing room and you're going, 'We've got a chance this year', the players will think we've got a chance. This year I think his message will be different. Key to success will be whether or not the fledgling leaders within Maresca's squad can find another level. You need to understand that you can push through little injuries, niggles, and you can kind of come out the other side of it. 'You need to manage your body throughout the week and all of that.' As well as mentoring players in the Under-18s and U21s, Terry stops in to catch up and offer support to players such as James and Colwill. He even spoke to the pair of defenders before this interview. 'Out of pure respect, I don't get too involved because I fully respect the manager and his role. Advertisement 'I would never want to say something that goes against what he's saying to those players. 'But the boys know I'm always there if they need me. And that is the clubman role he wants some of his academy predecessors to take up. Advertisement Terry said: 'You've got Reece and there's a few other boys that really live and breathe Chelsea. 'But the boys that come in and really buy into the club, this is where the importance of Reece, Levi and the academy graduates really play an important role. 'This is how we do it. This is what we do at Chelsea. We win football trophies and we win cups on a regular basis. 'All the top clubs have that. Man United have that, Liverpool have that, Arsenal. Spurs not so much . . . 'So in terms of where we were last year . . . a little bit inexperienced. Thiago Silva left and all of that. But the team managed to find a way to win.' Terry also believes recent successes will be transformative for the Blues. Advertisement While the Conference League would have been scoffed at during Terry's era had it existed, now it is viewed as a stepping stone within the camp. He said: 'It gives you belief, back when we won our first one, the 2004-05 Carling Cup at Cardiff, it gives you belief that it can be done within the squad. 'When you're a young group, it ripples throughout the whole squad of players.' If this group can match what Terry and his team-mates did after that Carling Cup win 20 years ago, the Blues will be in for one hell of a ride once more. Gutsy Ireland hold Germany to draw but unable to reach EuroHockey semi-finals
Ireland 0 Germany 0 IRELAND PRODUCED AN impressive performance to hold Germany to a draw in their final pool stage match but were unable to progress to the EuroHockey semi-finals. Playing against the tournament hosts, and world number six side, Ireland needed a two-goal win in order to advance in Monchengladbach. They fell short after creating several chances throughout the clash. Mikayla Power won a penalty corner which was well saved and cleared before Emily Kealy advanced to win a penalty stroke in the first quarter. Advertisement Hannah McLoughlin stepped up to take the set piece, and saw her effort saved by Julia Sonntag. Ireland had another penalty corner in the closing minutes of the opening quarter, but McLoughlin was denied again. FULL TIME: IRL 0 - 0 GER An immense effort from our IRL Women in our final pool stage match. The better side on the night, but we settle for a draw against the hosts. The result sees our IRL Women progress to the Crossover matches where we will meet Scotland and England in our… — Hockey Ireland (@irishhockey) August 13, 2025 Ireland maintained their intensity in the second quarter, creating plenty of chances from turnovers. But a strong German defence kept them at bay as the sides went into the half-time break on level terms. Germany were reduced to 10 players with a green card after a foul on Sarah McAuley. And while Ireland made use of the numerical advantage, Germany broke through for a shot on goal which was saved by Elizabeth Murphy. Two late green cards for Ireland's Roisin Upton and Niamh Carey meant Ireland were down two players for the remaining minutes but the tie was still scoreless by the end of the third quarter. Ireland continued to hunt down the two-goal target but were unable to break the deadlock in the final quarter. They will now play Scotland and England in two final crossover matches in Monchengladbach to close out their EuroHockey Championship 2025 campaign. 'We went toe-to-toe with Germany in front of a home crowd,' Ireland Head Coach Gareth Grundie said after the game. 'We certainly had our opportunities; I think if one had gone in in the first quarter it certainly would have put them under pressure. 'I think the damage was probably already done on Monday against France. If we had come out of that game with a result, then Germany needing to win tonight would have given us a real opportunity.'
