Honey Singh and Karan Aujla summoned over vulgar lyrics; Women's Commission says, ‘Will not tolerate abuses about mother in songs'
Karan's new release 'MF Gabhru', which debuted on August 1, has stirred public outrage for lyrics alleged to be offensive towards women. In response, the Commission has directed Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) to assign a senior officer to investigate the matter. Karan is expected to appear before the Commission as part of the inquiry.
Honey Singh, meanwhile, is under fire for 'Millionaire', a track from his 2024 comeback album Glory. The Women's Commission has also initiated suo motu proceedings against the rapper, asking him to appear at 11:30 a.m. on August 11. A letter has been dispatched to the Punjab DGP, urging a high-level investigation into the allegations. Released in August last year, 'Millionaire' was one of the standout tracks from Honey Singh's 18-song album Glory, which featured other numbers like 'Payal,' 'Jatt Mehkma,' 'Bonita,' and 'High On Me'. The album was launched under the banner of T-Series.

Reacting to the controversy, Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill made a strong statement condemning the tone and content of the songs. 'Those who use this language cannot be tolerated. That's why I have summoned both of them. These songs will be banned. Singers are the voice of society. On one hand, they say that they love their mother very much. On the other hand, they are using abusive language about mothers in these songs. Will not tolerate abuses about mother in songs,' she said.
While both artistes are reportedly out of the country at present, they are still expected to attend the scheduled hearing. This isn't the first time Honey Singh has faced backlash over his lyrics. In December 2024, the rapper drew criticism for the song 'Makhna', prompting the Punjab Women's Commission to seek legal action against both Honey Singh and the music label involved.

Shehnaaz, along with Saron and Kaushal Joshi, are producing the film. It is made under the banner of Raaya Picturez, Amor Films, and Shehnaaz Gill Productions. With Shehnaaz Gill in the lead, the film is expected to bring a female-centric story of a young girl and her struggles with getting married. The makers also dropped a poster of 'Ikk Kudi', showing the actress in a confused state. In no time, fans flooded the comment section with congratulatory messages and expressed excitement over her next acting role. Shehnaaz announced the film in November last year, dropping pictures from the first day of shooting. "Starting a new journey today and immensely proud and happy to announce that today we commence the shooting of my Punjabi film with my dream team," she wrote in the post. In the pictures, she was seen posing with veteran actor Nirmal Rishi while dressed in a simple salwar kameez.
