Todd Haley: 'Aaron Rodgers is the best option for Steelers'
The Steelers' 'Killer B' era offensive coordinator recently weighed in on the 2025 quarterback debate between Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph.
Todd Haley, who served as the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2017, gave a harsh truth regarding the team's potential 2025 quarterback room—there's Rodgers, then there's everyone else.
Haley recently appeared on the Kaboly + Mack podcast to give his two cents on the Steelers' projected QB room for 2025:
'When you don't have a quarterback—again, we have the whole Aaron Rodgers elephant in the room. I understand that, which, to me, is the best short-term option available for the Steelers,' Haley said. 'He's the best answer, in my opinion, for right now.'
Contrary to what Rudolph's supporters may believe, Rodgers gives the Pittsburgh Steelers the best chance to compete right now in 2025. Whether or not that's worth the offseason drama he's already brought to the Steel City is a conversation for another time, however.

Pickens' Drama in Dallas gets first episode out of the way before training camp
When the Dallas Cowboys first acquired George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers, many decried the move as desperate and a controversy waiting to happen. Pickens had a well-earned reputation for a certain degree of drama over the years. Incidents in college impacted his draft stock and incidents in the NFL reaffirmed those concerns, ultimately contributing to his trade. Playing in the bright lights of Dallas has a way of magnifying things, both good and bad. Many felt it would only be a matter of time before some sort of controversy arose with the Cowboys' newest weapon. As fortune would have it, skeptics didn't have to wait long for validation. Pickens allegedly backed out of a previous commitment catching the ire of organizers of a Pittsburgh area youth camp. TruEdge Sports didn't mince words when they released a scathing statement about Pickens. They said his actions display a 'disappointing lack of accountability' that 'shows a disregard for the families and children who were excited to meet him.' They've since backed off such statements after clarifying their communication was filtered through his representation and not with the receiver himself. Clarification was good but, in some ways, it was too little too late for daily news cycle. The headlines had been printed, and the damage had been done. Anyone looking for controversy had found it, and the first bit of Pickens drama was officially in the books. Drama is far from foreign for Cowboys fans. Boisterous personalities like Dez Bryant and Terrell Owens regularly drew headlines for reasons other than catching the football. Distractions come with the territory 'round these parts, so it's safe to say as long as Pickens is getting along with his teammates and producing on the field, there's no reason to sound the alarm. The change in culture from Pittsburgh to Dallas is rather significant. Things like this may be cause for concern up in the Steel City but down in Big D they're old hat. If Pickens hasn't noticed, it's production on the field that matters on the Cowboys. It's why many fans have grown so irrationally frustrated with Dak Prescott's lack of success in the postseason and why after 30 years of struggles it's still somehow 'Super Bowl or bust' in Cowboys fan circles. It takes a lot to rock the boat in Dallas. Fans here are accustomed to drama and controversies; all they seem to care about is producing on the field and postseason success. If Pickens can provide that on the Cowboys, he'll notice patience runs extremely deep. Steelers Insider Predicts New Aaron Rodgers Receiver Signing
Steelers Insider Predicts New Aaron Rodgers Receiver Signing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed who their QB is (welcome to town, Aaron Rodgers!) and they have confirmed who their second-option receiver is at the moment, but that may not stop the team from shopping for a more ideal running mate for DK Metcalf ahead of training camp. Advertisement Aside from the Steelers' new wideout, who was paid $150 million after his trade, the offensive options could still be slim with Calvin Austin at WR2. Robert Woods and Roman Wilson joining Metcalf and Austin to round out the receiving corps ... which probably requires a touch more depth to be competitive in the AFC North during this narrow window with 41-year-old Rodgers at quarterback. Some "names" are still out there, but general manager Omar Khan has reportedly low-balled a lot of his offers. Or free agents have given the Steelers the cold shoulder, leading to no real action. Veteran Keenan Allen already struck down rumors about him signing or wanting to play in Pittsburgh, so the Steelers will have to pivot. Advertisement The New Orleans Saints and stud wide receiver Chris Olave? As FOX Sports suggests, "the Steelers could acquire Olave with the intention of signing him to a long-term contract down the road and letting Metcalf walk after his contract expires, choosing to just invest in the prime years of [Metcalf's] career," - i.e. when he's paired with his new buddy Rodgers (however long it lasts). But why would New Orleans give up its best player? Amari Cooper is on the open market after a rough go with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills last season that included a mid-season trade. Cooper has been a capable 1,000-yard receiver as recent as 2023 and is proven to be an excellent co-star within an offense ... but last season has left teams wary now that he's up for grabs. Advertisement But ... Nobody is interested in his services if he hasn't been picked up by this point in the offseason. The Steelers would need the best version of Cooper, but that is no guarantee now that he's almost 31 years old and joining what could be his third team in the span of a year and a half. His past accusations of low effort when things aren't going well could be a worrisome note, as well. How about Washington Commanders holdout Terry McLaurin? A pipedream, we say. Washington needs him and at some point, a $30 mil APY deal to stay in DC will happen. What are we left with? There could be an in-season deadline trade, if the Steelers are contenders at that point. But Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo recently told The Fan that while he expects the team to add another wide receiver before the start of the regular season, it will likely be "a depth piece. Because I do think they have to protect themselves against injuries." Advertisement That is less than thrilling. And we say it still leaves the Steelers slim in the wideout room. Steelers Rank As Top Landing Spot for $100 Million Dallas Cowboys Ex
Steelers Rank As Top Landing Spot for $100 Million Dallas Cowboys Ex originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers have Aaron Rodgers and they have DK Metcalf and after that? With their trade-away of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, it can be argued that they need more than just a body to complete their receivers room. Advertisement Maybe somebody in the group of Calvin Austin and Robert Woods and Roman Wilson will jump out as the candidate to join Metcalf? Or maybe, as folks continue to push, maybe Amari Cooper is the answer. Cooper has got critics who think he's "done.'' And Cooper is on the open market for a reason, still, after a rough go with the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills last season ... and of course, after he was famously trade-dumped by the Dallas Cowboys before that. His problem, as they termed it in Dallas, is "shrinkage.'' Amari - while being a five-time Pro Bowler - does not consistently find ways to come up big in big moments. Nor, by reputation, does he fight through adversity, including minor injuries. Advertisement But still ... that push just won't stop. From SportsCasting's Dan Girolamo's list of potential landing spots for Cooper ... "Outside of Metcalf, the Steelers' receiving corps is average at best. Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, and Ben Skowronek will be in the running for snaps. If Cooper signs with the Steelers, he'd immediately be in the mix to be the No. 2 receiver behind Metcalf.'' "In the mix''? Maybe. Is that what the Steelers need? Someone who was once a $100 million receiver but who now - by the writer's own admission - only projects to be "in the mix'' with the likes of Ben Skowronek and Scotty Miller? Advertisement Cooper is almost 31 years old. If he signed anywhere - and it's telling that he hasn't - it'll be his fourth team in four years. He had the worst year of his career in 2024, as he posted career lows in catches (44), yards (547), and touchdowns (four) and struggled to find snaps with Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills, who essentially benched him when the going got rough in playoffs. The Steelers need help. They don't need "in the mix.'' Related: Shrinkage? Again?
