Award-winning Wetherspoons pub that has huge rooftop beer garden is right by the beach
Plus, how to save money at Wetherspoons CHEERS Award-winning Wetherspoons pub that has huge rooftop beer garden is right by the beach A WETHERSPOONS pint always goes down a treat - and even more so at this one venue that has a rooftop garden and sits right by the beach. Back in 2015, The Admiral Collingwood in Ilfracombe, North Devon, scooped up the prize of best new pub at the National Pub Design Awards. 3 The Admiral Collingwood is an award-winning pub in Ilfracombe, Devon Credit: Alamy And since, the boozer has become an icon of Ilfracombe's seafront after judges described it as "an uncompromisingly modern building where the glass dome offers urban presence, while the rest of the main elevation is understated yet sophisticated", according to Harrison Ince Architects. Inside, new artworks were commissioned for the pub at the time, and a steel sculpture of a wave breaking was installed. On the roof of the pub, there is a beer garden which is open between March and October and boasts amazing views across the coast. One recent visitor said: "The view of the sea is amazing; the roof terrace is lovely and the drinks are true spoons quality. Read more on travel inspo SHOW BOAT I tried new Omaze-style draw for superyacht holidays & lived like a billionaire "We love Ilfraspoons!" Another added: "The view and the amazing prices make the THE place to go" According to Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the pub serves three changing beers which often include ales from Fat Belly, GT Ales, Exmoor, Cotleigh and Bays featuring regularly. In the summer, this increases to four beers. And then additionally, there are three regular beers on offer to punters. Visitors also get to learn a bit of histroy about the purpose built pub when they visit, as the menu states: "Until its very recent closure, the Collingwood Hotel had welcomed visitors to north Devon's Ilfracombe for over 130 years. I went to the UK's biggest Wetherspoons with rooftop bar overlooking the beach "The imposing five-storey building was named after Admiral, Lord Collingwood, Nelson's second-in-command at Trafalgar (who fought just off the Spanish coast in 1805). "Cuthbert Collingwood fired the first shot in the battle (one of British naval history's most famous and crucial) and took over command of the British fleet after the fatal wounding of his friend Horatio Nelson." Just a short walk away from the pub is Wildersmouth Beach, which is sheltered and shingle. Despite being central to Ilfracombe, the dog-friendly beach is often less crowded than other sandy beaches nearby. 3 Also in Ilfracombe is Damien Hirst's bronze Verity sculpture Credit: PA:Press Association Ilfracombe is also home to the Landmark Theatre, in Jubilee Gardens. For art lovers, make sure to follow the coast around to Ilfracombe's harbour where you will find Damien Hirst's bonze sculpture called Verity - a half-skinned pregnant woman, who stands 20 metres tall. The high street is also said to be a "thriving hub of independent shops", according to Visit Ilfracombe. There are many craft shops, gift shops and cafes to explore - and even a coffee-cum-craft shop. Sweet tooths will also enjoy the Ilfracombe Chocolate Emporium, which sells handcrafted chocolates and has a chocolate museum - which is free to visit. And make sure to check out the department story Chas N Pedlar & Son, which has been running for over a century. The seaside town has a lot of choice for accommodating too, with lots of holiday homes. How can I save money at Wetherspoons? FREE refills - Buy a £1.50 tea, coffee or hot chocolate and you can get free refills. The deal is available all day, every day. Check a map - Prices can vary from one location the next, even those close to each other. So if you're planning a pint at a Spoons, it's worth popping in nearby pubs to see if you're settling in at the cheapest. Choose your day - Each night the pub chain runs certain food theme nights. For instance, every Thursday night is curry club, where diners can get a main meal and a drink for a set price cheaper than usual. Pick-up vouchers - Students can often pick up voucher books in their local near universities, which offer discounts on food and drink, so keep your eyes peeled. Get appy - The Wetherspoons app allows you to order and pay for your drink and food from your table - but you don't need to be in the pub to use it. Taking full advantage of this, cheeky customers have used social media to ask their friends and family to order them drinks. The app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play. Check the date - Every year, Spoons holds its Tax Equality Day to highlight the benefits of a permanently reduced tax bill for the pub industry. It usually takes place in September, and last year it fell on Thursday, September 14. As well as its 12-day Real Ale Festival every Autumn, Wetherspoons also holds a Spring Festival. A Devon local has walked the South West Coast Path numerous times – these are her best spots The Salt Path movie doesn't show. Plus, Devon is also home to the best fish and chips in the UK.

The Greek hotel that looks more like the Maldives with overwater rooms named one of Europe's best resorts
Plus, the Greek island that's the 'birthplace of marathons' TOP SPOT The Greek hotel that looks more like the Maldives with overwater rooms named one of Europe's best resorts AN ADULTS-ONLY all-inclusive resort nestled in Greece with Maldives-style overwater villas and swim-up hotel rooms has been named the best in Europe. Awarded by Conde Nast as the top spot, Stella Island Resort and Spa offers the ultimate luxury, with plenty of different villas to choose from, on the island of Crete. 4 Stella Island Resort and Spa was named the top adults-only all-inclusive in Europe Credit: Stella Island Resort Having opened in 2017, the resort has quickly become known for its 'floating breakfasts' and spa and wellness centre, with a sauna and hammam. Sitting at its centre is also one of Europe's largest lagoon pools. Whilst the overwater huts don't sit above the ocean, and instead sit above a pool - with narrow bridges crisscrossing the water. Each features a day bed that looks out across the pool (and some, the sea too) and a hammock that hovers above the calm crystal waters. In total, there are eight pools at the resort in total and guests can also head to the beach and a waterpark which neighbour the resort. In the middle of some of the pools are sunken seating areas, where guests can retreat to with a book or glass of wine. Each room and suite features blonde wood and bamboo, with a sleek and stylish minimalist interior. At night, the villas are then illuminated with glowing yellow lights, as are the pools. The entire resort is located close to Analipsi, but guests also don't need to really venture out of the resort itself as it has five restaurants serving a range of cuisines. For example, there is a buffet serving authentic Greek food and a Mexican restaurant as well. This holiday park has Maldives-like overwater bungalows As for wellness, there is both and indoor and outdoor gym, tennis and paddle courts, stand up paddle-boarding and complimentary bike hire. The resort even has its own app which guests can use to book restaurants and activities and request things such as room service or a towel change. One recent visitor said: "This is our third time staying here — and it won't be our last. "The moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the stress of life just melt away. "It's like the whole place is designed to make you breathe easier, relax deeper, and feel completely taken care of." 4 There are a range of different rooms and suites to choose from Credit: instagram 4 Across the resort, there are eight pools and five restaurants Credit: Stella Island Resort Another added: "Special memories made in a very special place." It takes about 20 minutes to reach the resort from Heraklion airport - and if you book via the hotel's website, you'll even get a free transfer from the airport. Rooms cost from £180 per night and anyone over the age of 15-years-old is allowed to stay. If visitors do want to venture out of the resort, there is plenty to do across Crete - including several serene beaches, quad safaris across the rugged landscape and historic village hopping. The Greek island that's the 'birthplace of marathons' The Sun's Brittany Vonow headed to Rhodes and ran the most beautiful 13 miles in the world - here's her take. Running the TUI Rhodes half-marathon, I'm 16 kilometers in and almost sorry I have only five more to go. It's easily one of the most beautiful races I've done, winding along the sparkling sea and past ancient fortifications. With the supportive locals and 700 volunteers, it's a joyful experience in the birthplace of the marathon. I push through the final stretch, crossing the finish line in 1 hour and 55 minutes. Afterwards, I relax at the adults-only Imperial Atlantica resort, recovering my muscles in the sauna. The shoulder season offers a quieter and more peaceful atmosphere. Beyond the hotel, we explore the Old Town, enjoying delicious Greek food like dolmades, tzatziki, and baklava. My medal serves as a lasting souvenir of a truly unforgettable trip. A Greek expert has also revealed four better value islands where locals go on holiday with Santorini-like houses and secluded beaches. Plus, the smaller Greek island with 70 beaches that experts warn you should see before it gets too popular.

World's biggest airport with 185million passengers to open by 2030 – and could have direct UK flights
CONSTRUCTION has begun on what will be the biggest airport in the world. King Salman International Airport in Saudi Arabia is set to open in 2030, and will be the size of 14,000 football fields. 5 The airport will have six runways and be the biggest in the world Credit: Foster + Partners 5 It will have plenty of space to relax before a flight - and lots of shops Credit: Foster + Partners The mega-sized airport will be built around the existing King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The extension was was first announced in November 2022 and when finished the huge airport will be 57 square kilometers. Of that, 12 square kilometers will be reserved for shopping. Currently, the King Khalid International Airport has two parallel runways. Read More on Holidays OFF TRACK Five stunning European holidays that are cheaper than a UK train fare With the new extension, this will be increased to six and will see 120 million passengers by 2030. By 2050, the amount of passengers will increase to 185 million. With the opening of the airport, the number of aircraft takeoffs and landings in Saudi Arabia will go from 211,000 per year to over one million. The estimated cost of the project currently stands at $30 billion (£22.5 billion). In January 2025, the terminal overhaul at King Khalid International Airport was completed - bringing the extension closer to completion. The revamped terminal features new facilities, including 38 check-in counters, 10 self-service kiosks, 26 passport control counters, and 10 automated gates. Inside Saudi Arabia's plan for £3.8bn seaside resort built on blood as vid shows work underway for Dubai-style hotspot Terminal 1 now also has 24 boarding gates, 40 passport control counters in the arrivals area, and 11 self-service gates. The airport is being designed by the British architecture firm Foster + Partners. The company is behind other projects like Battersea Roof Gardens, Wembley Stadium, and will be designing the national memorial to Queen Elizabeth II. In May of this year, two US based firms, Bechtel and Parsons were awarded key contracts for the expansion, according to ENR. It will have plenty of seating, indoor and outside places with lots of greenery and huge glass windows for plane watching. The airport design has been specially-made to create a "seamless customer journey", revealed in a statement from the Saudi Press Agency. 5 It will be in a loop design to create a seamless passenger journey Credit: Foster + Partners 5 The renders show lots of open green spaces around the airport Credit: Foster + Partners Currently, Brits can fly directly from London to Riyadh Airport with an average flight time being six hours and 42 minutes. It wouldn't be surprising if these continue, or even if the number of flights increase to the city as a result of the new airport opening. The airport expansion forms part of the Saudi Vision 2030 plan to transform the country. Qiddiya, an entertainment city, is also in the plans and it is currently scheduled to open later this year. It will have a Six Flags theme park, and enormous waterpark with submersible cars and four record-breaking rides - including the world's tallest water coaster. For thrill-seekers, it will have the largest drop body slide, the tallest water slide and the longest mat racer too. This mega £2.7billion airport reveals 24-hour terminal that will 'rival London's Heathrow' with UK flights. Plus, the abandoned UK airport will reopen its doors after a decade in £500m revamp – and could offer Ryanair & easyJet flights.
