Algerian Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif has dismissed reports suggesting she is stepping away from the sport, calling the claims fabricated and damaging.
Khelif, who won gold in the women's 66kg category at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, was forced to address rumors after French outlet Nice Matin quoted her former manager as saying she had retired. The comments sparked widespread speculation over her future.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the 26-year-old athlete said, "I would like to make it clear to the public that the reports of my retirement from boxing are false."
She went on to accuse her ex-manager, Nasser Yesfah, of spreading lies, "He has betrayed my trust and my country with his false and malicious statements. This person no longer represents me in any way."
Khelif reiterated her commitment to the sport, insisting that she continues to train actively both in Algeria and Qatar, "I have never announced my retirement from boxing. I remain committed to my sporting career, I train regularly, and I maintain my physical condition between Algeria and Qatar in preparation for upcoming events."
The boxer, who was at the center of a gender eligibility controversy during the Paris Olympics, now faces a packed schedule ahead. The World Boxing Championships are scheduled for September 4–14 in Liverpool, with the entry deadline fast approaching next week.

Forest sign French striker Kalimuendo from Rennes

Ammon News - Nottingham Forest have signed French striker Arnaud Kalimuendo from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais on a five-year deal, the Premier League club said on Monday. Financial details of the transfer were not revealed but British media reported Forest paid about 26 million pounds ($35.19 million) for the 23-year-old. Kalimuendo came through Paris St Germain's academy and had two loan spells at Lens before joining Rennes in 2022, scoring 40 goals from 112 appearances in all competitions. At Lens, he netted 21 goals in 65 appearances. Kalimuendo was impressive in 2024-25, with 18 goals and four assists in 34 matches for Rennes. He was part of the France squad that won silver at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. "This is a proud moment for me, joining a team who had a strong season last year and a club with great history," Kalimuendo said. "I'm ready for the challenge, and I arrive here with good experience. I had a good season last year with goals and assists but I want more and want to reach a new level here." Forest have spent about 147 million pounds on seven signings in the transfer window, including three in the last three days. Kalimuendo joins midfielder James McAtee from Manchester City for 30 million pounds and winger Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town for 37.5 million at the City Ground. Forest, who finished seventh last season, began the new campaign with a 3-1 home win over Brentford on Sunday. The Midlands club are also playing in the Europa League, which will be their first European campaign since 1996. Reuters

PSG fight back to beat Spurs on penalties in Super Cup

Ammon News - European champions Paris St Germain fought back from 2-0 down with five minutes left to beat Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties in a dramatic UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. Totteham looked set to give new manager Thomas Frank a winning start before PSG substitute Lee Kang-in pulled a goal back after 85 minutes and Goncalo Ramos headed the equaliser four minutes into stoppage time to level the scores at 2-2. PSG completed the turnaround in the shootout as Mathys Tel and Micky van de Ven missed for Tottenham and Nuno Mendes stepped up to bury the decisive spot-kick. The PSG players poured on to the pitch in celebration, knowing they had etched their names into history as the first French side to lift the trophy. "It's incredible to win like this. This team once again showed character, even if we're not at our physical best," PSG defender Marquinhos said. "We managed to get the goals we needed through the substitutions, and in the shootout we have players who take their penalties well and a goalkeeper who helped us." Tottenham, who finished 17th in the Premier League last season, took the lead after Van de Ven scored from a rebound and doubled the advantage when Cristian Romero headed home against the French champions, who won their first European Cup in May with a crushing 5-0 final win over Inter Milan. Lee scored with a crisp finish after his side had dominated the closing stages, before Ramos met Ousmane Dembele's pinpoint cross with a diving header to send the game into a shootout. "It's difficult to talk about this match… We trained for only five-six days, it's incredible," PSG coach Luis Enrique said. "For us, it's really special to have won this trophy and to be able to offer it to them." Reuters
