I lived in New York for seven years and this is, without doubt, the best hotel in the city

A sumptuous hotel with an incredible pool in lower Manhattan that seamlessly blends class, elegance and exquisite service – this is New York at its finest
Like many who have previously lived in New York, I have a somewhat complicated relationship with the city. My heart will never not skip a beat as that first view of the Manhattan skyline comes into view through the taxi window. But returning as a tourist elicits a slight ache for the NYC of the past, of the city I once called home – when Bushwick was still edgy, when bad meals felt impossible and when Meatpacking wasn't flooded with tech bros. By the final night of my recent three-night trip to New York, I felt tired and underwhelmed. The Greenwich Hotel changed this. At this hotel, I found the New York of my rose-tinted memories. Admittedly, it's far from cheap. But if you are going to splurge on an NYC hotel, do it here.
Despite the name, this hotel isn't actually in Greenwich but in Tribeca. It sits on Greenwich Avenue, which runs a good length of lower Manhattan from Meatpacking to Battery Park. This smart section of the city contains plenty of upscale restaurants and bars, as well as shops and art galleries. It's also just a short walk from the affluent West Village and a short Subway ride from the main tourist attractions. The hotel is easily reachable by taxi or public transport from all three New York airports. As downtown locations go, you can't do much better
The vibe
Quiet luxury reigns supreme. The Greenwich Hotel is the best of the best and, quite frankly, doesn't need to shout about it. You'd hardly be surprised to learn that the hotel is part-owned by Robert DeNiro; there's an old-school New York feel to it. We're talking soft, well-worn leather chairs, wooden floors, heavy doors, couches that you sink into and thick rugs in rich materials. There's a cosy drawing room bathed in soft mood lighting and a courtyard with greenery weaving its way up the walls. It's effortlessly elegant.
As close to flawless as I've experienced. Service is slick and sharp, while also feeling friendly and genuine – from the concierge greeting guests at the door to the restaurant staff who smiled, nodded and gave a soft 'no problem' to requests for dishes to be made vegetarian. Genuinely, nothing is too much trouble.
Bed and bath
The 73 rooms and 11 suites (along with a Tribeca penthouse) are elegant, classy and wonderfully comfortable. All are individually decorated with unique features, and floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the courtyard or the Manhattan street. Sleek and spacious tiled bathrooms feature walk-in showers and roll-top stand-alone or marble bath tubs. The minibar is filled with what are rumoured to be Robert DeNiro's favourite snacks (a fun mix). I felt like Kevin McAllister let loose in Manhattan as I nibbled on Tate's cookies, Swedish fish and Reese's pieces. And if you happen to run low, the refills are complimentary.
Food and drink
Locanda Verde is the restaurant and bar adjoining the Greenwich Hotel, offering Italian dishes – such as duck sausage orecchiette, lamb pappardelle bolognese and 'My Grandmother's Ravioli' – in a light and airy taverna-style space. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also provides 24-hour room service to hotel guests.
You might prefer to dine in the drawing room, which is filled with squishy sofas in gorgeous fabrics. The menu is small, but everything is beautifully prepared, and there is an excellent wine and cocktails list.
Facilities
The Greenwich Hotel's underground Shibui spa is one of the best in the city, with a shiatsu room, a traditional bathing room with a large tub for Japanese bathing rituals, a wet room that includes a shower for wraps and scrubs, and a treatment room for massages and facials. The gorgeous swimming pool is fantastically housed inside a 250-year-old wood and bamboo farmhouse that has been reconstructed inside the hotel and is lit by lanterns to create a wonderfully relaxing space. There is also a well-equipped gym, which is a very decent size for a Manhattan hotel, with cardio machines and weights.
The Greenwich Hotel has public spaces and adapted guest rooms, which are in full compliance with the American Disabilities Act.
Pet policy
Dogs are an important part of the culture at the Greenwich Hotel. At no additional charge, dogs of all sizes are welcomed with their own plus-size dog bed, homemade biscuits from Locanda Verde's pastry chef, bowls, bottled water and a new NYC-themed toy. Dogs are welcome in all public areas (except the spa), including the lobby, courtyard and drawing room.
Check in/check out?
Check in from 4pm; check out by 12 noon.
Family-friendly?
Families are welcome. Children can use the pool until 10am. Many of the rooms can be connected, and staff can put an extra bed in any of the rooms for smaller guests.

Warning issued to all holidaymakers bringing their phones to the beach

Many tourists take their mobile phone with them during their travels for a variety of reasons. Whether its to capture photographs of memories and amazing views, or to share holiday updates with their friends and family, it's not uncommon for travellers to carry their mobile phones. However, a warning has been issued against bringing the common device to the beach. Compare and Recycle, a tech recycling company, has urged holidaymakers to be careful when exposing their mobile phones to 'sun, sea and sand'. From small grains of sands causing havoc with speakers and charging ports to the sun overheating the phone, there's lots of ways a trip to the beach could cause damage. According to Manchester Evening News, Chief Product Officer, Lee Elliott, said: 'Our phones are a lifeline while we're abroad. 'We use them for navigation, keeping in touch with people and for spending money. 'Unfortunately, most phones aren't as durable as we think they are when exposed to sun, sea and sand.' Holidaymakers could take protective measures to ensure their device is undamaged, if they do take it to the beach. This might include, a waterproof pouch, or just keeping the phone away from water. Seawater erosion is another risk travellers should consider when taking their mobile to beaches. It's also recommended to keep the tech in the shade to control its temperature more on sunny days. If that's not possible, setting the device to flight or low power mode can also help. Grains of sand can cause issues too, but if any enters the mobile it's not advised to try and prod it out. Pointy, metal ends can cause damage to delicate charging ports, a soft brush or something sticky like Blu-tak might be a safer option. Holidaymakers may also need to be mindful with their phones when travelling to their destination, too. A TikTok user, @ revealed she avoids putting her mobile phone loose in the tray after an airport security worker gave her a stark warning. 'The thing I'm absolutely never doing when I go through TSA, I am not putting my phone directly into one of the containers or bins,' she explained in a video. 'It's always going inside a zipped pocket in my bag.' Holidaymakers could take protective measures to ensure their device is undamaged, if they do take it to the beach. This might include, a waterproof pouch, or just keeping the phone away from water She continued: 'Why? I did this once, the TSA agent looked at me and said, "You don't like your phone?" 'I looked at him like he was a little crazy and I said, "Yes", and he said, "This is the fastest way to get it stolen." 'The number one thing that they see stolen on a regular basis is phones, and that's because they are left out and available, and the lines can back up, and somebody could just swipe it and you're not paying attention until you realise it's too late. 'So always make sure that your valuables are zipped up into your bag when they go through the scanner.'

We're staying at EVERY Disney hotel in the world... We'll be visiting 45 resorts and five countries in 52 days

A couple who are planning to stay at every Disney hotel on the globe have laid bare their plans to visit 45 resorts in five different countries in just 52 days. James Doherty, 31, and Chloe Doherty, 28, based in the UK, have been avid Disney fans for years. They take their daughter, Athena, three, to a Disney theme park 'two or three times a year, sometimes even more.' Now, they have set out on a quest to stay at every single Disney property in one massive trip, something that's never been done before. The pair, who started the endeavor this weekend, said it will take them roughly two months to complete, and will total more than 50 hours of flying. 'We usually visit Disney around two or three times a year - sometimes even more,' Chloe explained during an exclusive chat with the Daily Mail. 'We've been to Disneyland Paris, Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort in California, Tokyo Disney, and enjoyed a few Disney cruises as well.' She explained that they always dreamed of doing a trip like this but 'never quite had the opportunity' to do it. But after 'dealing with some health challenges' earlier this year, they figured it was finally time to make their dream a reality. 'We'd talked about it so many times but never committed - then, after dealing with some health challenges, we woke up one morning and thought, "Life's too short. Why not? Let's do it!' And that's when we started looking into it,' she recalled. They've been planning since April, and mapping out the perfect route to hit all the resorts was not easy. But now, they've got it all figured out; the endeavor will start at Disneyland Paris, where they'll stay for seven days. They'll then head to Hong Kong Disney, followed by Shanghai Disney, and then Tokyo Disney. After that, they'll spend some time at Disney's resort in Hawaii, before they head to Disneyland in California. Next comes Disney's hotel in Hilton head, South Carolina, and its Vero Beach, Florida, resort, before the family will end with Walt Disney world in mid-October. 'We will be staying at 45 official resorts in total,' shared Chloe. 'Seven in Disneyland Paris, three in Hong Kong, two in Shanghai, six in Tokyo, three in California, 21 in Orlando, one in Hawaii, one in Florida coast, and one in Hilton Head.' When asked about how much they have spent on the trip, Chloe stayed tight-lipped, stating, 'We won't be discussing cost at the moment.' Chloe noted that she's aware that it's a lot of time at Disney parks in a row, but said she's not worried that their three-year-old daughter will get sick of going to the Happiest Place on Earth. 'She's been going to Disney parks since she was a baby and, honestly, she probably loves them even more than we do,' gushed the mother-of-one. 'For her, every visit is exciting and new, so I think she'll be just as enthusiastic on the last day as she is on the first.' In response to anyone who may judge them for the extravagant endeavor, she said, 'We know it's a big, ambitious trip, but for us it's about doing something we love as a family. 'Everyone has their own passions - ours just happens to involve Disney and travel. 'We're making memories together, and at the end of the day, that's what really matters to us.' They plan to document the entire thing on their YouTube channel, called Doherty's In The Magic. 'We love Disney, we love travelling as a family, and this combines both in the most magical way,' she concluded.
