July workers' remittances rise 7.4pc YoY
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday reported that Pakistan has received inflows of workers' remittances amounted to $3.214 billion during July 2025 as against $2.994 billion in July 2024, showing an increase of $220 million.
However, home remittances in the first month of this fiscal year remain some 5.6 percent lower than June 2025, in which the country received inflows worth $3.406 billion.
During the last fiscal year, workers' remittances remained instrumental as they more than offset the widening trade deficit. Workers' remittances posted a robust growth of 27 percent in last fiscal year (FY25) over the previous fiscal year (FY24).
Overall, Pakistan received highest ever $38.3 billion home remittances during FY25 as against $30.25 billion in FY24. Workers' remittances remained instrumental, as they more than offset the widening trade deficit.
Governor SBP, Jameel Ahmed, expressed confidence that home remittances will continue to grow in the current fiscal year. However, he noted that the pace of growth is expected to slow in the coming months due to the high base effect and the recent rationalization of home remittance incentive schemes.
According to the SBP Governor, the target for home remittances in the current fiscal year has been set at $40 billion, compared to $38.3 billion achieved in the previous fiscal year.
Remittance inflows in July 2025 were led by Saudi Arabia, which contributed $823.7 million, an increase of 8.4 percent. Inflows from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) rose 8.8 percent to $665.2 million in the first month of this fiscal year, compared to $611 million in the same month last fiscal year.
Remittances from the United Kingdom (UK) grew two percent to $450.4 million in July 2025 up from $443 million in July 2024. However, inflows from the United States of America (USA) fell 10 percent to $269.6 million in the first months of FY26.

CM for comprehensive plan to support wheat farmers
LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to start a comprehensive plan to support wheat farmers in order to increase production of wheat. She also directed them to take necessary measures to reduce cost of agricultural inputs before wheat sowing in Punjab. She further directed them to ensure abundant availability of fertilizer before wheat sowing. She said, 'Targeted subsidy should be given to small wheat farmers in relief.' The Chief Minister agreed to a proposal to provide interest-free loans of Rs 100 billion to farmers before wheat sowing. She was briefed in detail by the relevant authorities, 'Timely sowing of wheat is essential for better production in Punjab.' She was also apprised, 'A total of Rs 63 billion subsidy was given to farmers in Punjab during two months, and farmers obtained interest-free loans of Rs 50 billion through Kisan Card.' The CM noted, 'A subsidy of Rs 13 billion was given under the Chief Minister's Wheat Support Program, and the use of fertilizers, especially DAP, has increased in Punjab due to Kisan Card Project.' Gondal appointed as AGP
ISLAMABAD: Federal government has appointed Maqbool Ahmad Gondal, a senior officer of Accounts and Audit Group as Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) under Article 168 (1) of the Constitution. A notification has been issued in this respect. 'The president is pleased to appoint Maqbool Ahmad Gondal (PS&AS/BS 22) presently serving as controller general of accounts as AGP for a period of four years'. He is second most senior officer of audit and accounts service. Iram Anjum Khan is most senior officer. Shehzad Hasan and Syed Muhammad Ammar Naqvi are third and fourth in seniority. He will assume office upon completion of term of the incumbent Muhammad Ajmal Gondal who will complete his four years terms in September 2025. 7th NFC Award: 'Centre deducts Rs87.87bn annually without AGP certification' Finance Division appoints the AGP in the light of recommendations send by the incumbent AGP usually, sources said. The finance ministry plays a major, often decisive, role in the appointment of the AGP which may be characterised as a potential conflict of interest as the AGP is primarily going to look at the accounts and related procedures and practices of the ministry. MoFA discusses visa reforms
ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Saturday extensively discussed visa reforms aimed at extending maximum facilitation to Pakistani diaspora and attract investment into the country. According to the Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/ FM), Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting at MoFA to review the progress of visa process reforms initiated in 2024 at Pakistan's missions abroad. The meeting focused on streamlining procedures, improving transparency, and ensuring fast-track visa services for overseas Pakistani nationals, investors, and the business community. Pakistan, UAE sign visa exemption agreement for select passport holders Dar deliberated upon the implementation of reforms introduced under his guidance, aimed at modernising and digitising visa services. Pakistan had already introduced e-visa service for many countries. The meeting highlighted the need for further procedural simplifications to reduce processing times and enhance user experience. The deputy premier issued directives to missions to prioritise applications from the Pakistani diaspora and foreign investors to facilitate travel and business opportunities. The meeting was told that the reforms are part of the government's broader efforts to improve consular services, attract foreign investment, and strengthen engagement with overseas Pakistanis.
