Colleen Bready's Forecast: How long will air quality warnings last?
CTV News2 days ago
Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 30, 2025.
Widespread wildfire smoke continues to hang over much of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario Wednesday.
Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) has renewed an air quality warning for Winnipeg, the rest of southern Manitoba, central regions extending into some northern areas, and much of northwestern Ontario.
In the south, smoke is trapped under surface high pressure.
However, the weather agency says as the high keeps moving east, winds will shift from the southwest. As that starts to happen, the worst smoke will move out of the south. Good news for that part of the province, but not for central and northern areas where that smoke will be headed.

ECCC says it will take a couple of days for smoke to clear out of the south.
Otherwise, temperatures Wednesday will reach the mid-20s across southern and northwestern Manitoba, while northeastern regions and northwestern Ontario won't be far behind, with highs in the low 20s.
Daytime highs will remain in the mid-20s in Winnipeg on Thursday and Friday before heating up into the upper 20s throughout the August long weekend.
Sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds is expected throughout that period, with much improved air quality expected by the start of the weekend.
