The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has voiced support for awards shows keeping separate categories for male and female performers.
The British star, who identifies as non-binary and asks to be referred to with they/them pronouns, said it was important that "recognition for women in the industry is preserved".
"But then, where do non-binary or gender non-conforming people fit into that? I don't know," Ramsey added.
Ramsey has been nominated for best actress at the Baftas and Emmys. Other ceremonies such the MTV and Brit Awards have switched to all-encompassing gender-neutral prizes as the entertainment industry grapples with how non-binary actors should be treated by awards shows.
Organisers of the Oscars said last year they were "exploring" the idea of merging the best actor and actress categories.
Ramsey told Louis Theroux's podcast: "If people call me an actress, I have a guttural 'ugh, that's not quite right' instinct to it.
"But I just don't take it too seriously. It doesn't feel like an attack on my identity. It's just a funny thing that doesn't really fit."
'I've tried to think my way to the answer'
Ramsey said they "didn't find it insulting" to be nominated for best actress at the Emmys.
Theroux suggested that having a single category would mean "basically a lot of women wouldn't get nominated" - as happened when the Brits scrapped their best male and female categories in favour of a best artist award, and no women were nominated in 2023.
Ramsey responded: "I think it's so important that that's preserved - that the recognition for women in this industry is preserved.
"I think the gendered categories conversation's a really interesting one and I don't have the answer. I wish that there was something that was an easy way around it.
"I think that it is really important that we have a female category and a male category - but then, where do non-binary and gender con-conforming people fit into that? I don't know.
"I've literally sat and tried to think my way to the answer, and haven't got there.
"You could do it for the character portrayed - like, best performance in a female character. But then, what about when there are non-binary characters on screen? Which is few and far between at the moment. But where does a non-binary person playing a non-binary character fit in? I don't know. It's really complicated."
There has also been a move towards referring to all performers as actors rather than using the term actress, but Ramsey said many people prefer to be called an actress "and are really comfortable in that".
"I've always just called myself an actor, but I don't think that those words [like actress] have to be taken away."

Strictly celebrity pairings 'revealed' and one star who could be 'benched'

The full line-up for the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing has been announced, but fans believe they have worked out which professionals will be paired with which celebrities The complete lineup for the 2025 series of Strictly Come Dancing has been officially revealed and eagle-eyed viewers reckon they have sussed out one same-sex pairing as well as all of the other pairings. ‌ The programme is set to make its comeback this autumn, with Game of Thrones star Kristian Nairn amongst the confirmed celebrity contestants. The-49 year-old, who also works as a renowned DJ, stands at an impressive six foot nine inches tall. ‌ The BBC dancing show typically matches famous faces with professional dancers based on height compatibility. It comes after it was revealed that Vicky Pattison suffered a gruelling health issue just days into training. ‌ Now, one dedicated viewer posted online that they believe they have cracked it for this very reason, predicting that Kristian will be matched with a male professional. They wrote: "Given his height, maybe there's a chance he gets a male pro? Even the taller female pros will still be nearly a foot shorter than him. Excited to see him, always struck me as a lovely guy in interviews." Another fan responding to the theory suggested: "Maybe he'll get Johannes?". A third also agreed: "Wow, was not expecting this. Rooting for him and excited to see how they will work around the height difference." Elsewhere on the show this year will be Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, Dani Dyer, Alex Kingston, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Balvinder Sopal, George Clarke, La Voix, Chris Robshaw, Ellie Goldstein, Thomas Skinner, Stefan Dennis, Ross King, and Karen Carney. Ahead of the brand-new series, several fans of the BBC show have now predicted what professionals will be paired with what celebrities. ‌ On one Reddit thread which has already raked up hundreds of likes, one Strictly fan wrote: "I feel like these will all be paired together. "Alex Kingston and Aljaz Skorjanec, Balvinder Sopal and Neil Jones, Chris Robshaw and Nadiya Bychkova, Dani Dyer and Julian Caillon, Ellie Goldstein and Nikita Kuzmin, and George Clarke and Alexis Warr." ‌ The Reddit user went on: "Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Lauren Oakley, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Dianne Buswell, Karen Carney and Vito Coppola, Kristian Nairn and Carlos Gu, La Voix and Kai Widdrington, Ross King and Jowita Przystal. "Stefan Dennis and Karen Hauer, Thomas Skinner and Luba Mushtuk, and Vicky Pattison and Johannes Radebe." ‌ The Strictly Come Dancing fan went on to add their predictions of what dancers might be 'benched' this year as they wrote: "Gorka (obviously), Amy, Katya, Nancy and Michelle. "The reason I suggested these pairing predictions is because Katya has been through enough scandals already especially the Wynne Evans situation last year so best to leave her on the bench to prevent more controversy. "It's about time Vito challenges himself with someone with not as much dance experience or a fair amount of rhythm so Karen Carney would be possible. ‌ "Even though Karen Hauer is the oldest female pro still going, I feel Stefan Dennis would be a possible contender for her as this may well be her last year on the show (unless she wants to set the record to overtake Brendan's 15 series and Anton's 18 series then fair enough). "It would also be best if Amy sits this series out to prioritise her health and well being." ‌ However, another user disagreed that Katya would be benched for the upcoming series. "I'd be incredibly surprised if Katya was benched. If her controversies were seen as bad enough to not have her compete, I reckon they would just advise her to quit. "From a producing standpoint, Katya may bring controversy, but that controversy brings views and engagement. She has never actually caused issues herself really, its her partners that do it and she gets wrapped up in it. "She's still one of the most popular pros regardless of any controversy, which just shows how good she is. Plus, she is one of the best choreographers, and one of the most consistently entertaining. I'd say that Jowita is the only other female pro that's consistently on the same level."

Key Theatre panto moves to new venue as Raac repairs push opening

A pantomime has been relocated to a different venue after repairs at a city theatre were delayed. The Key Theatre in Peterborough is currently undergoing £2.19m of roof repairs after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) was identified in October Theatres, the operator of the Key Theatre, said: "Due to the complex nature of the work, unforeseen variables have emerged. This means the schedule of works will now run to the end of December 2025."The Jack and Beanstalk Pantomime will be held at The New Theatre on Broadway instead, which is also run by the same operator. The operator also said the Chalkboard café and Kindred Drama, which are located in the building, will remain open throughout the work. 'Cultural cornerstone' After Raac was found in 2023, a new temporary roof structure costing £196,000 was installed, which helped save panto season at the theatre that then, Peterborough City Council, which owns the building, allocated £2.19m for a longer-term programme of remedial works, including a new permanent roof and improved heating and cooling company Lindum was appointed to carry out the project, which began in June and was expected to finish by Jepson, CEO & creative director of Landmark Theatres, said: "Whilst we are delighted to confirm that our much-loved annual pantomime and festive programme will go ahead as planned, albeit at a different location, some other scheduled productions will sadly need to be cancelled or rescheduled. "All affected customers will be contacted in the coming week with full details, including options for exchanges or refunds."Speaking about the repairs, he added: "The key issues have now been identified and addressed, and we're confident that the remaining works are on track to be completed within the revised timeline. Robust controls are in place to ensure continued progress and timely delivery."The Key Theatre is more than just a building—it's a cultural cornerstone for Peterborough. We can't wait to welcome everyone back to a revitalised Key Theatre, ready for an exciting new chapter." Labour councillor Mohammed Jamil, deputy leader and cabinet member for finance and corporate governance, said: "We continue to work closely with Landmark and the contractors, Lindum, to ensure that the work can be completed at the earliest opportunity. "Once the work is completed, it will ensure that the theatre can continue to provide a vibrant cultural offering for Peterborough residents."The BBC asked the council if the delay to repairs could have an additional financial impact on the local said it was "too early" to comment on the total cost figure and needed to "evaluate the proposed works and sequencing". Leeds vs Everton - Premier League: Live score, team news and updates as the Whites make their return to the top flight with a home clash against the Toffees

What a weekend it's been, eh? One of the main reasons I love the Premier League returning is because we get four days of back-to-back footie, from Friday through Monday. It's pure bliss. We've had three of those days pass us now, and well, it's fair to say it's been a mixed bag. We started with a bang at Anfield, but then it was a bit up and down in terms of entertainment after that, to be honest. Nevertheless, the top flight has still been as frantic as ever. Now, last but not least, we finish the opening weekend at Elland Road as Leeds United mark their return to the Premier League against Everton. If I know one thing about tonight, it's that the atmosphere is going to be electric. When the Leeds players emerge from that tunnel, the noise may be loud enough to register on the Richter scale. OK, that's dramatic, but it's going to be hella loud. I, for one, can not wait for it to get started... let's hope we end this weekend like we started it, with a bang! Right then, shall we get cracking?
