Michael Sloan Dies: Co-Creator Of ‘The Equalizer', Longtime Husband Of Melissa Sue Anderson Was 78
His death was announced by his family, which includes his wife of 35 years, the actor Melissa Sue Anderson, who starred in NBC's Little House on the Prairie in the 1970s and '80s. The family announcement did not name a place or cause of death but noted that he passed away peacefully.

Michael Fred Sloan was born to a show business family on October 14, 1946, in New York City. His grandfather, Fred Stone, was a vaudeville performer who played the Scarecrow in the 1902 Broadway production of The Wizard of Oz, and his parents Paula Stone and Michael Sloane were Broadway stage producers.
The family moved to London when Sloan was young, and it was there that he would later begin to write and produce feature films. He had returned to America where he wrote an acclaimed 1976 episode of Columbo titled 'Now You See Him,' effectively launching his career.
Among the programs for which he subsequently wrote or produced were Quincy M.E. (for which he received an Emmy nomination), Harry O, McCloud, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Battlestar Galactica, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, The Return of the Man From U.N.C.L.E. and numerous episodes of The New Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
It was while working on a 1989 episode The New Alfred Hitchcock Presents that Sloan met Anderson, a guest star on that week's episode. The couple married in 1990.
Sloan is perhaps best remembered for his co-creation of The Equalizer, the 1985-89 television series starring Edward Woodward as the mysterious justice-seeker Robert McCall. The series was rebooted in 2021, and has spawned a hit movie franchise starring Denzel Washington. Sloan was a producer of the films, and also wrote a series of Equalizer novels.
For the stage, Sloan wrote the 1989 thriller Underground, which was produced in Toronto and on London's West End.
In addition to his wife, Sloan is survived by their children Piper and Griffin; sister Judy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ASPCA in honor of Michael's deep love for animals.

Did Dillon Gabriel throw shade at Shedeur Sanders?
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel gave a very curious quote during his preseason debut on Saturday in Philadelphia against the Eagles. While talking with a sideline reporter, Gabriel said that "there's entertainers and competitors... and my job is to compete." As soon as Gabriel said that, folks wondered if he was throwing shade at fellow rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who has embraced his celebrity status over the years. The most likely answer to this was always no, as Gabriel clearly isn't careless enough to throw his teammate under the bus on live television. Not even a rookie should make that kind of mistake. After the game, Gabriel affirmed the obvious that he wasn't talking about Sanders at all, more so prioritizing his NFL career and role as a quarterback over having a presence in the media. That makes much more sense. However, that explanation and the context around it won't stop folks from thinking Gabriel got in a subtle diss at Sanders. It's not the case, but the internet will likely run with it anyhow. Who has won the Cleveland quarterback battle? The Redditor says the guy "seemed familiar" but she wasn't sure know how she knew him NEED TO KNOW A woman was scrolling on a dating app when she matched with her friend's boyfriend She didn't make the connection at first, but about 10 minutes into their conversation, she realized why he "seemed familiar" Now, she is conflicted about whether or not she should tell her friend A woman was hitting things off with a man she met online until she realized "mid-conversation" that he was dating one of her friends. The poster explained on Reddit that she was recently swiping through a dating app when a profile caught her eye. She said the man was "cute," had a "funny bio" and "seemed familiar," but she "couldn't place him right away." "We match, he messages almost immediately, and we start chatting," she recalls. About 10 minutes into their exchange, the man mentioned his favorite coffee shop, which just so happened to be a place the poster frequents with one of her friends. "Then it clicks. He's her boyfriend," she writes. "I've literally been at double dates with this man." When she confronted him and directly asked if he was still dating her friend, she was shocked by his response. "He says, 'Oh, haha, yeah… but this is just for fun, don't tell her,'" she recalls. "Like he was asking me to keep his little 'oops' secret." The poster says she "unmatched so fast my phone nearly caught fire." Still, now she is "torn" on whether she should tell her friend and "potentially blow up their relationship" or keep his secret to save her the heartbreak. Nearly everyone in the comments urged the poster to tell her friend, and, if possible, save screenshots of her conversation with the boyfriend as "proof." "You're not the one blowing up a relationship by being honest. He did that by stepping outside of their relationship," one user wrote. "This isn't even a question. You tell her. You're not the only person he's chatting with," another added. "You tell your friend. Otherwise when she inevitably does find out and finds out you knew, you will never be friends ever again."
