Yoane Wissa makes decision with Man Utd and Arsenal 'looking' at deal

Metro18-07-2025
Brentford star Yoane Wissa wants to leave the club this summer despite the club being willing to open talks over a new deal, according to reports.
Newcastle United, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are all attempting to sign the DR Congo international before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Bees, understandably, want to keep hold of the 28-year-old forward, especially with Bryan Mbeumo expected to move to Manchester United.
But the BBC report that Wissa – who scored 20 goals last term across all competitions – would prefer a move away from Brentford this summer.
Wissa's decision comes after Stuart Pearce claimed that United were 'looking' to sign the player before the new Premier League season starts.

'There's no doubt Manchester United and Arsenal would have been looking at Wissa,' Pearce told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, earlier this week.
'When you look at the season he had last year, he was magnificent. The goals he's delivered while playing with width and playing down the middle as well.
'That's a major asset for any football club and the fact that Nottingham Forest have moved the odd player on recently, along with other sides in the division, you would think that by the time the season starts, he might well have moved on [from Brentford].'
Meanwhile, Peace has also shared his thoughts on Arsenal's £50m deal to sign Noni Madueke, which was officially announced on Friday.
Madueke has been forced to deal with somewhat of a toxic reaction from some Arsenal fans, who are adamant the club have made a big mistake.
Peace, though, feels it's a positive move for the Gunners. More Trending
'If Noni Madueke rips it up for Arsenal, £50million will look very cheap, make no mistake about that,' he added.
'I think at the moment, both teams can lay claim to having a good deal, he's 23-years-old so £50million in the run of things gives Arsenal another dimension as well.
'From Chelsea's point of view, if they stop piling too many players to recoup £50m, I think both teams have got a decent deal. Sometimes that happens. It's not always one's got a good deal, one's got a bad.
'I would say in this respect, both of them have got a reasonable deal they're both happy with.'

Ollie Watkins heads Man Utd's two-man striker transfer shortlist as club make decision on transfer for new keeper

OLLIE WATKINS heads Manchester United's two man striker shortlist. But the Old Trafford side will not get involved in a bidding war for PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, leaving the door open for Chelsea and Manchester City to try to lure the Italian. 3 3 United are weighing up moves for either Aston Villa striker Watkins or Leipzig's Slovenian front man Benjamin Sesko. That rules out any interest in Nicolas Jackson, despite Chelsea being increasingly keen to find a taker for the Senegalese attacker. And any move may only be feasible if United can move on Rasmus Hojlund, preferably on a full-time basis rather than a Marcus Rashford -style loan. With United having spent £130m to give boss Ruben Amorim his two top targets - Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Old Trafford hierarchy do still want a line-leading upgrade. Contact has been made with the entourages of both potential targets, with Watkins' proven Premier League experience a major plus The England striker, 29, has scored 75 top flight goals since moving to Villa Park. Before that, he was part of a successful attacking unit including Mbeumo at Brentford, a further tick in his box While Villa have dismissed all suggestions of an approach and insisted Watkins is not for sale at any price, they did offer him to Arsenal in the January window, before performing a U-turn after selling Jhon Duran instead. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK Watkins is more of a box player than Sesko - who was also on Arsenal's summer wishlist - but has proven mobility and running power. At this stage, United are keeping both options open in case one becomes problematic. The Old Trafford club, aware of Villa's public stance, recognise that negotiations may not be simple and could take until the latter days of the summer window next month. Selling Hojlund, and also commanding fees for Alejandro Garnacho and Antony would make meeting hefty price-tags more likely. Meanwhile, United have shelved their interest in Villa keeper Emi Martinez. A loan offer was made and rejected last week but the club's current position is that Andre Onana will start the season as first choice. And that means no move for Donnarumma, whose contract stand-off with PSG has opened up the prospect he might be available. The Italian, with one year left on his deal with the Champions League winners, is seeking a significant mark-up in his £210,000 per week salary. But United are not willing to go there, meaning they will not rival City - who may lose Ederson and could be reluctant to make new signing James Trafford first choice, and Chelsea as potential Prem contenders. Transfer news: Man Utd target Sesko and Watkins, plus Diaz and Isak updates

Update: Date: 08:10 BST Title: 'United's move for Watkins is ironic' Content: Simon StoneBBC Sport chief football news reporter in Chicago Any move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins would be an ironic one. It was Watkins that lost his place in Villa's starting XI when Marcus Rashford joined the club on loan in January. Watkins, 29, was the subject of a bid from Arsenal during that window but Villa rejected the Gunners' offer. United have so far signed three players this summer, spending almost £130m on attacking duo Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who could also play as a central striker but are thought more likely to occupy Amorim's preferred two number 10 slots, and teenage defender Diego Leon. Amorim spoke on Friday about his current preference to sign players with knowledge of the Premier League. Update: Date: 08:03 BST Title: Man Utd interested in Sesko and Watkins Content: Simon StoneBBC Sport chief football news reporter in Chicago Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko are at the top of Manchester United's list of strikers if they decide to bring in a new centre forward this summer. A final decision has yet to be made and there is an acceptance among United's hierarchy that they need to start offloading some of their unwanted players – which might not happen until nearer the 1 September deadline – in order to fund a new arrival. Neither player would be straightforward to bring to Old Trafford. Newcastle, who have missed out on a number of key targets this summer and also have uncertainty over their own star forward Alexander Isak, are known to be keen on RB Leipzig's Sesko while Villa have made it known they are not interested in selling Watkins. However, United feel that stance might change nearer to the deadline, although they feel a suggested £60m price tag would be far too high for 29-year-old Watkins, whose current contract runs to 2028.
