Fartcoin Bucks Market Trend, Jumps 12% on Coinbase Listing Plan

Yahoo06-06-2025
Fart-powered humor trumped crypto gloom as fartcoin (FARTCOIN) climbed 12% in 24 hours, clawing back losses from a Pump.fun-fueled slump earlier this week after Coinbase (COIN) added the token to its listing roadmap.
CoinGecko data shows that the move to $1.06 came on record-high $400 million trading volume, pushing the token into the top 100 by market cap.
Coinbase's listing roadmap is a watchlist the exchange uses before activating spot trading. Although no go-live date has been set, tokens on the roadmap typically do so within weeks, and traders are betting that the same playbook will repeat.
Fartcoin's origins are as humorous as its ticker. An anonymous Solana wallet minted 1 billion FARTCOIN on Pump.fun on Oct. 18, 2024, spending just 2 sol SOL and dumping most of the stash within 30 seconds.
The coin became a symbol of the absurd in some crypto circles and a light-hearted rebellion against the grim macroeconomic forecasts. It holds no intrinsic value, but enjoys a cult following — one that has translated into buying demand on several instances of market declines. It hit a high of $2.68 on Jan. 19, CoinDesk data show.
Fartcoin's platform allows users to potentially submit theme-related memes or jokes to earn tokens. It features a unique transactional system where each trade produces a digital flatulence sound.
Its adherents invest in it not for the promise of utility or groundbreaking technology, but for the joy of the moment, the shared giggle over a coin whose name alone is enough to break the tension of the day.

Altcoin Season Could Begin in September as Bitcoin's Grip on Crypto Market Weakens: Coinbase Institutional

Altcoin season may be weeks away, according to Coinbase Institutional's latest monthly outlook, which forecasts a shift in market leadership from bitcoin to alternative cryptocurrencies beginning in September. Altcoin season refers to a market phase when cryptocurrencies other than bitcoin — often led by Ethereum's ETH, Solana's SOL, and other large-cap tokens — post significantly higher percentage gains than BTC over a sustained period. The Aug. 14 report, authored by David Duong, Coinbase's global head of research, identifies three main drivers: falling bitcoin market dominance, improving liquidity and growing investor willingness to rotate into higher-beta assets. Duong frames this as a cyclical transition, with capital moving down the risk curve as market confidence builds. Bitcoin dominance — its share of total crypto market value — has shown signs of softening after peaking earlier this year. Coinbase argues that as this measure declines, capital historically flows into large-cap altcoins, and then into mid- and small-cap names. This rotation effect, they suggest, will become more pronounced in September. Liquidity trends are also turning more favorable for altcoins. Coinbase notes tighter bid-ask spreads and deeper order books across major exchanges, making it easier for traders to enter and exit altcoin positions without incurring heavy slippage. Improved liquidity often encourages participation from larger players who might otherwise avoid less-traded tokens. The third factor is sentiment. Duong writes that as macro conditions stabilize and volatility remains contained, investors are more likely to seek higher returns in riskier crypto assets. This environment could foster sustained inflows into the altcoin market, particularly if bitcoin's price consolidates rather than surges to new highs. Coinbase stops short of predicting which tokens will lead the charge but highlights the pattern from previous market cycles, where blue-chip altcoins outperformed first, followed by smaller-cap assets. The report cautions that while September may mark the start, the duration and magnitude of the move will depend on both market and macroeconomic conditions. BTC is up 27.2% year-to-date but has trailed some major altcoins such as ETH (+37.9%) and XRP (+49%), while others like SOL (+1.67%), ADA (+8.96%) and DOGE (-27.5%) have lagged. Coinbase maintains that market conditions overall could favor a broader rotation into altcoins in the coming months. After Circle and Bullish's big debuts, it's time to put these three crypto IPOs on your radar

Whether or not you think crypto is a pivotal technology or generational scam, there's no arguing that there's money to be made off of it. But despite the improbable returns and all-time highs in leading digital assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, there might arguably be even better money for investors buying companies selling access to the boom. See, there's an old adage about selling pickaxes to gold miners. And arguably, nobody's done it better than Robinhood (HOOD) and Coinbase (COIN) . The two industry leaders spent years in the dumps after their respective 2021 IPOs, but with the years-long recession of trading speculation in the rear view, the two companies have soared. They're up 475% and 62% over the last year. Their performances have created a lot of FOMO among crypto and fintech operators. And thanks to a slew of new pro-crypto policies from the Republican-run U.S. government, and record valuations in digital asset land, there's a new boom of firms seeking out Wall Street. It's already created some of the year's most fantastical rallies. Take USDC creator Circle Technology (CRCL) for example, it's up over 400% since its IPO. It's not a one-off thing, either: crypto exchange and media firm Bullish BLSH, which IPOed this past week, proved the demand for crypto IPOs is durable; it's nearly doubled from its IPO price. So who should be on your radar next? Here are three to watch out for: If not for Grayscale, the largest digital asset manager, we might have been waiting years for Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs to become reality. The company was a first-mover in bringing crypto to Wall Street through its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust and Grayscale Ethereum Trust. The funds, plus dozens of other products offered by the asset manager, offered spot exposure to the digital assets long before major asset managers paid any mind to the crypto industry. Next on its list, it plans to take itself to Wall Street, capitalizing on the robust drip of management fees from its various crypto products. It manages over $33 billion in assets. In mid-July, it was reported that the firm had confidentially filed for an IPO. They might not have invented Facebook, but settlement money in hand, the Winklevoss twins have managed to build a billion-dollar business in the burgeoning crypto business. After buying millions in Bitcoin and attempting to bring a 'Winklevoss Bitcoin Fund' to Wall Street over a decade ago, the twins settled for building their own crypto exchange. Today, Gemini has grown to be one of the larger centralized exchanges. As a result, it's seeking to strike while crypto demand is strong. In fact, it was one of the first firms to throw its hat in the ring, in light of the strong performance seen by Circle. Last it raised money from venture capital investors in Nov. 2021, crypto was at all-time highs. Filing confidentially for an IPO, the company would likely seek a valuation around the $7.1 billion it fetched back then. Crypto custodian BitGo has also joined the chorus of crypto firms seeking a home on Wall Street. It might score big, given the fact that it's already a massive home for crypto assets. BitGo custodies over $100 billion in assets now, making it one of the largest holders of crypto. It provides services directly to exchanges, asset managers, and other businesses. Not just holding and securing coins, but staking them and providing trading, lending, and borrowing services as a prime broker. It's fair to assume that the firm's near-doubling in assets over the last year is an indication it's ready for prime time, but outside of the $1.75 billion valuation it fetched in Aug. 2023, we won't know a whole lot more until the company's confidential IPO becomes public. It's hard to call anything a sure thing these days, particularly with U.S. stock benchmarks and crypto markets at record levels. For those interested in playing the IPOs, there's likely an opportunity to hop in on the ground floor of the new listings, playing the first-day pop and ensuing optimism. Some brokerages, like Robinhood and SoFi, even allow investors to request shares at the IPO price. For longer-term holders, closer examination of the companies' financials will be a must. Most of that information is not public yet, though. To that end, if you're a crypto believer, a bet on these firms might make sense if they're financially strong and growing. But given the nature of this fickle market, that means betting that the crypto market's best days are still ahead. And that's by no means a sure thing. Ethereum stakers head for the exit, causing $3.8bn logjam

If you're looking to unstake your Ethereum, you'd better pack a lunch — and maybe a few spares. The validator exit queue has swelled to an all-time high of more than $3.8 billion worth of Ether, with average wait times now exceeding 15 days. That's a major shift from the norm since Ethereum's switch to proof-of-stake in 2022. Before mid-June, delays longer than 24 hours were rare and short-lived. Staking is the process of locking up ETH to help secure the network in return for yield, while unstaking is withdrawing those funds. The exodus is being driven largely by liquid staking platforms. Over the past month, Lido, and Coinbase have seen a combined 573,000 Ether, worth around $2.5 billion, withdrawn, accounting for the lion's share of recent exits. DeFi researcher Ignas partially attributes the mass unstaking to a broader unwinding of leveraged staking loops. It's a once-popular strategy where users staked Ether for tokens like stETH, borrowed Ethereum on Aave using that token as collateral, and repeated the cycle to boost yield. But when Aave's borrow rates spiked to over 10% in late July following a $1.7 billion Ether withdrawal (largely attributed to Justin Sun), the math broke down. Loopers scrambled to unwind positions, triggering a cascade of unstaking activity from liquid staking providers who had backed those DeFi strategies. 'Even if borrow rates stabilize,' Ignas warned, 'loopers are worried that stETH or other LST depegs could cause position liquidations. Better to unwind now and stay safe.' The wave of withdrawals may also be preparation for upcoming Ethereum staking ETFs. New SEC guidance in early August clarified that liquid staking tokens are not securities, potentially clearing the way for more institutional interest. Still, some early holders may simply be taking profits or reallocating after Ethereum's rebound to a four-year high above $4,500 — up 180% from just four months ago.
