Bullet fired into Andy Reid's office while he was inside
Reid was working late at the Chiefs' practice facility just after midnight on May 4, 2024, when a bullet broke through the glass of his second-floor office, per the Kansas City Star. The round penetrated the blinds and landed in a wall between his bathroom and office door.
Two additional bullets struck the facility that night, one hit an outdoor air-conditioning unit, and another struck the third floor above Reid's office.
'No one was struck, and there were no injuries associated with the incident,' a Kansas City Police spokesperson told PEOPLE.
Because the building was occupied, the case is being investigated as aggravated assault. Police maintain there is 'no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.'
Chiefs quietly installed bulletproof glass after the incident
The Chiefs took immediate security measures following the shooting. USA Today reported that Reid's office was fitted with bulletproof glass shortly after the incident.
The team has not publicly commented.
According to Jarrett Bell of USA Today, many staff members and players were not even aware of the event until reports surfaced this week. Police confirmed the investigation remains ongoing and detectives are awaiting further forensic analysis.
Reid, 67, has been Kansas City's head coach since 2013, leading the franchise to three Super Bowl titles. He remains one of the winningest coaches in NFL history with 273 career victories, trailing only Don Shula, George Halas, and Bill Belichick.
