WMass woman who let loose a swarm of bees on deputies a no-show at her trial

SPRINGFIELD — A judge has issued an arrest warrant for a woman who directed a torrent of bees at deputy sheriffs during an eviction on Oct. 12, 2022.
Rebecca 'Rorie' Woods was set to report for trial Tuesday both as a defendant and to represent herself in court. The trial date had been delayed numerous times. Woods, of Hadley, had filed dozens and dozens of motions — many of which maligned the lawyers and judges involved in the case — since the start of the prosecution. She argued on her own behalf at several hearings.
But when the day of reckoning came, Woods was nowhere to be found and had not contacted the court. Prosecutors and witnesses ready to testify waited three hours for Woods to arrive.
Later in the afternoon, a judge issued a 'no bail' arrest warrant, meaning Woods will be held once they locate her and bring her to court.
Woods was not in custody by late afternoon Tuesday, according to law enforcement officials.
The 57-year-old former beekeeper has argued in court that she is being persecuted for an act of civil disobedience and for her rage over the mortgage industry and court system.
On Tuesday afternoon, Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni confirmed the arrest warrant was issued.
'While she remains innocent until proven guilty, the accusations against her are very serious, and we will be prepared to present the evidence that she endangered many employees of the Sheriff's Department who were merely doing their jobs,' Gulluni said.
'She may have delayed justice, but it won't be denied,' he added.
A call to Woods' cell phone was not returned.
Woods, who was known to oppose eviction proceedings, arrived at the $1 million home of Alton King Jr. at 49 Memery Lane in Longmeadow shortly after sheriffs arrived.
Although she argues in court filings she brought her honeybees to enjoy the flower beds at King's house, she quickly began advancing on the deputies with the hives, witnesses said.
One employee required a trip to a hospital in an ambulance after being stung multiple times.
If convicted by a jury, Woods could serve two years in jail.

Wild L.A. pursuit: Carjackers steal 3 cars, drive big-rig wrong way on freeway, then escape

Two armed thieves led authorities on a wild pursuit from Lancaster to downtown L.A. on Sunday night, authorities said, stealing three vehicles, driving a big-rig truck in the wrong direction on the 10 Freeway — and still managing to escape. The chase began with a carjacking in the city of Lancaster at 9:45 p.m., according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. Two armed men stole a man's white F-250 Ford pickup and fired gunshots at the victim as he attempted to pursue them. The carjackers then fled southbound along State Route 14 toward Los Angeles. Sheriff's deputies pursued the pickup for 26 miles, after which the California Highway Patrol took over. The thieves then abandoned the pickup and carjacked a second vehicle, this time a massive big rig, according to the Sheriff's Department. Footage captured by shows the stolen big rig weaving through oncoming traffic as it hurtles in the wrong direction down the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway. The carjackers ditched the big rig while exiting the 10 near Alameda Street in downtown L.A., authorities said. They then carjacked their third vehicle, a white Chevrolet Silverado truck, and continued to lead the CHP in pursuit. They drove just three miles farther before abandoning the Silverado on Mission Road under the 101 Freeway underpass, where they escaped around two hours after the initial F-250 Ford robbery took place. A loaded firearm was later recovered from the backseat of the F-250 Ford. Authorities believe additional suspects may have participated in the Lancaster robbery and also picked up the fleeing suspects after they got out of the Silverado. Anyone with further information on the incident is asked to contact Det. Casebolt at the Lancaster sheriff's station at (661) 524-2171.

SoCal toddler found wandering barefoot on railroad tracks; parents arrested

Two parents have been arrested after police found their toddler wandering alone on the overpass of a railroad in Needles. Around 6 a.m. Sunday morning, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of the 2-year-old at L Street and Broadway Street. They found the child alone, wearing no shoes and roaming along the track, according to a release from the Sheriff's Department Colorado River station. Authorities said that the child's parents, identified as Bradley Underwood, 48, and Sara Estrada, 30, then arrived at the scene. The railroad runs alongside the family's neighborhood, the department said. The couple were intoxicated from a 'central nervous system stimulant,' authorities said. Evidence was gathered at the couple's home nearby, and they were both arrested on suspicion of child abuse and taken to the sheriff's Colorado River station jail. Underwood also faces a potential charge of violating post-release community supervision and was held with no bail. They both await court hearings, with Estrada's bail set at $50,000, authorities said. The toddler was taken to the station, where Child and Family Services later assumed custody of her, the release said. The department advised those with more information on the case to call Deputy B. Moore at (760) 326-9200 or to submit an anonymous tip at WeTip.
